If you could make a live action movie version of Final Fantasy VII (as in, a movie version of the game and not a sequel/prequel/etc. such as Advent Children) who would you have cast as which character?

To start of with:

Aeris = Jennifer Lien
(Kes, from Star Trek Voyager) because she has a wonderfully soft yet powerful voice, combined with with a sort of I-just-want-to-hug-her stature.

Elena of the Turks = Amanda Tapping
(Sam Carter from Stargate SG-1) because ever since I started playing FFVII, I ALWAYS thought of her in that role.

Who else would you cast, and why?

The below is an extract from Neoseeker Forums.

I think Digitaholic hit the nail on the head with those pics.
But Gackt may be tooo.....feminine to play Cloud.

So, who gets to play Cait Sith and Red XIII? :)

Yoda could play Cait Sith.....and a lion could play red. LOL, I can see it now. "ROOOAAAAAAARRRR"*eats puppet Cait Sith, along with rest of cast*

I would think........who for Rude.....give any bald, mucly guy sunglasses and a suit, and you got him....for Reno...that would be hard.

Now about those pictures...i agree with most of them Except Gackt for Cloud and Adella for Aerith.

Gackt IS too feminine...but i dont know who could play him

Natalie portman could do Aerith well - i saw a picture of her in clothes similar to Aeriths with her hair down and she looked great ^_^ ill try and find it.....

i think the idea of having a live action FF movie ruins it cause its animation and besides they have to be japanese or kerian actors/actresses cause it would be a japan made movie lol

OMG Eeek.. no hell no. Granted the man is incredibly smart and evil as can be... but no, I don't want him to bastardize Sephiroth. He couldn't get the complexity of the character.

See I dunno know about that. There are a bunch of actors out there that really can't act as more than just 1 character. They can portrait one character and put that character in a bunch of different situations... but they're always still that same character. A poor example is Jackie Chan but it should get the idea across. He's always the same nice loyal chinese man. Usually not of high rank or value... but he jsut "does what he can" to fix whatever problem he's in. It doesn't matter whether he's in the Wild West, LA, or being a grocery clerk in a rundown NY store. He's always the same guy. Samuel L. Jackson is always the same badass character. He just takes that character from role to role and applies the same formula. I don't think that formula matches with Barret's character.

I would add a couple sex scenes, ftw. Gackt as Cloud and some brown haired big-chested hottie as Tifa.

Hmmm...as pretty as Adella is...and as good as her costumes are...she doesn't hit the spot as a good Aerith IMO.
She's just a pretty face with a nice outfit. Aerith seems like a tall, mysteriously attractive person with a more womanly than childish appearance. =]

I've never heard Adella speak, so I've no idea if she would sound right as Aerith.

I've always seen Aeris as having a more "childish appearance" than "womanly". I think one of the "Biological characteristics of the Ancients" (like that book in ShinRa Tower libray) is that the Cetra are a lot more neotenous when compared to their offshoot race, Humans.

I know she's an ancient and whatnot, but her appearance should mirror her personality. IMO, she's very childish and playful on the outside, but inside, she's a strong woman. I think if she was played by a girl with a childish appearance, her roll wouldn't seem as serious. o_O

Which is why I would choose Jennifer Lien as Aeris.
