Ok, So During One of my Many visits to the Sb today, the subject of the clans decreasing in activity came up in one of the conversations, and from it created many ideas to stimulate a better interest in GFX, While this is not a GFX board, it is a medium sized part of this forum. Therefore must not be allowed to die. Here are some very good ideas of which Merc, Sashman, The man with no name, and myself, thought of during this conversation.

Vary the themes for gfx challenges:
Not just making a tag of a specific theme,(such as not just ff,anime,or celebritys)

But instead make it so the GFXers (generalized title covering all who make GfX), ARE forced to be creative and try something new,

This can be done by Instead of a theme make it generallized, such as make a cd cover, or a wallpaper, make it a stockless tag or an abstract tag created with a program such as Photoshop or GIMP.

Also Instead of Having the siggy of the week why not make it a monthly contest, that way we can also stimulate the callouts and inter clan challenges.

Umm I think i covered it all, If i left out anything guys please add it..

WHAT DO YOU THINK BOUT THIS? THE PEOPLE OF FFF WE ARTISANS AND ILLUMINATI AND GENERAL GFXers REQUEST YOUR INPUT.

This is not ment to be an argumentative thread its merely a thread requesting input on what you guys think, so please stay on focus

Signature of the week will remain Sig of the week. It always has been and will remain to be a weekly contest.

Mandi and I can try more creative themes if that's what you want :monster: But, not everyone on the forum is ready or willing to try more creative things like LPs or Wallpapers or Banners, so we'll be sticking mainly to signatures. We'll change it every now and then to keep it interesting though.

However, when we do try more creative things...we tend to get less entries - take the Non-Rectangular week, for example, one of our lowest turn-outs. People expect SOTW to be about, well, signatures, not LPs or Wallpapers or Banners and whatnot. The clans can do whatever they like with their challenges, however.
 
The other main point brought up on the shoutbox last night was that SotW should either be changed to GFX of the Month or run alongside it. Part of the reason for extending the submission date to a month was to run polls and discussions on themes that the members would like to see take place.

I was going to suggest maybe making GFX of the Month a competition between all of the winners in that month but there's an annual poll on GFX winners, isn't there? Sig of the Year, I think it was called, last time.
 
I want to make a signature for sig of the week how and when and where? haha I saw the voting thread for it :D

I think the general idea was to have the other types of GFX tournaments (wallpapers etc.) was to run them alongside the SotW. I don't have any experience in it, but the general feeling I got was that people were getting bored of only making a tag every single week.

And the idea behind making it SotM, was so that people are encouraged to utilise the clans more in order to combat the (apparent) fall in activity in them.
 
I think it's hard to break people away from "sig" style graphics. The Inter-clan battle #6 "Splash" battle between TI and LA we had didn't fair very well with entries and was delayed by a couple of weeks to just wait for the one entry from one of the sides o_O
 
It's the only the way the clans will survive, otherwise they'll remain falling until they're dead entirely. The only problem being, I'll guess we have around 15-20 GFXers. This forum isn't GFX inclined whatsoever. Whilst yes, there has to be more creative themes, it also relies on the GFXers themselves to get out of their comfort zone and do something completely new. Otherwise, the clans will continue to die and SoTW will probably suffer too, which is why at the moment, FFF isn't and probably won't be a home for GFXers now and/or in the future. But yeah, more creative themes and competitions. :gmonster:

All great suggestions, guys, but we also have to look at the main picture here. If we make SOTW once a month, that wouldn't do any good because it would only suffer more than it is now. GFX Clans is the side dish here, with SOTW being the main point of GFX on this site. Do we wish to up the activity for the Clans? Yes, of course, but I don't see how making SOTW monthly would help at all because that is quite a long time. Let's say we do make it once a month - but the GFX Clans still don't pick up activity anyway? That's a lose-lose situation. We have to understand that the GFX Clans takes a lot of time and dedication from the members themselves. If the members can't seem to dedicate to their clans in the first place, what makes us think that making SOTW monthly would benefit the clans overall...?

The only thing we can really do is continue making SOTWs and hoping that more members would participate each week, and yes, certainly make the themes more interesting. On top of that, the members part of the GFX Clans will have to do their part as well and make it more active if they really wish to NOT see the clans fall. I've spent quite a lot time trying to boost activity in there and so did a few members, but there comes a point where we can't always try anymore when the others are not willing to participate or do their part to boost activity as well. Kinda see what I mean? The general point for GFX Clans is that BOTH clans must try to interact with each other and with the other clans - otherwise, you'll definitely see a decline in activity, and there's really nothing we can do (we most certainly can't hold back SOTW because of it) unless the members within the clan do something about it. :)
 
I'll back the vary the themes a bit more. I'm sorry, but I'm sick and tired of looking at the SoTW theme every week as "Final Fantasy" or "Tomb Raider" or "Freestyle" 'cause what people do is generally just pick the most popular character from each franchise and stick it in the sig and inevitably it's going to pick up major votes and it's annoying 'cause even though there are better crafted sigs, the "names" win a tag the competition. It all seems like the themes just cycle around and I generally see the same theme 2 weeks after it was last announced. Can't we be creative too?
That's the reason I'm not active in SoTW as much 'cause the theme gets too overused and bland.

Disagree with SoTM though. I think the themes would be good enough to turn activity around.
 
That's why I made the theme Titanic this week instead of anything Final Fantasy, to give a challenge.

Anyway, I don't like the idea of making SOTW into SOTM, but maybe what we could do is have a site banner contest every month and the winner gets their banner displayed on the site for a month perhaps? That way we could have a rotating monthly banner, something new and different at the top of the site every month? That could be called GFX of the Month. We could also do wallpapers too and come up with small ideas for prizes, as well.

Oh! I like that idea lot :3

Banners require more work I think, but can still be doable in the month ^^
 
I think the original idea was not to get rid of SOTW but to have a second, monthly competition which runs alongside SOTW. The monthly competition would involve making wallpapers, CD covers, Banners, Logos (pretty much everything besides Sigs and Avatars).

See the thing with this is, its still the same idea just more specific, instead of basing it around movies, its based around a particular movie. The idea behind making more creative themes was to make themes which don't revolve around games, anime or celebrities in general.

For example in the GFX challenges, one of the themes was wonders of the world or something. There are plenty of theme ideas which are completely differant and would make the SOTW more interesting IMO. Historical figures, having to alter a CD cover, famous artwork ect..
 
I also Like the Idea Juliet had, and sorry for the shotty writing on my part, I was kinda reluctant on writing the start of this thread cuz i fail at explaining things, I DONT wanna get rid of the SoTW but it does need to be varied either way and as for the GFX of the Month Idea how bout run it along side of the SotW's (as it was pretty much already stated by others.) And One question where do the SoTW themes come from??? Are they drawn out of a hat, or thought up by little pixeys living in the mods inner sanctum*pokes fun at the mods*

Regardless, we all generally agree that we should do something, I'm totally game, for what ever is thought of, and the non-rectangular SOTw was a down fall. because its a hard thing to find info on... *but i found a tutorial YAY after two weeks of searching*

...Well I'm sorry if my SOTW idea wasn't more original. Considering this is only the very first time I've ever ran SOTW, I thought it was nice and challenging with something different. I'm sorry but this post somewhat offended me.

Sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I'm not attacking you personally, I'm just saying that it would be a nice to see a theme that was completely different from what we've seen in the past.
 
LG told us himself the other day that we don't need a tech admin as he handles the tech side by himself just fine. So I'm sure he'll be able to handle it if we decide to implement it.
I wasn't aware you suggested the rotating banner idea as I wasn't here and Mitsuki never mentioned it to me.
 
There is a lot of stuff that could be done for the RPG. There is probably going to be a new game starting in the beginning of the new year. Lots of pictures could be contributed for different places. It has been thought about in the past. But never was done.

At the moment, there is talk of doing a new world map.
 
Once again this is a thread for ideas and should be treated as such. Juliet no one is attacking you, we are saying that the SoTW in general needs a makeover. (bleh i used that word in a sentence). So please THIS Is a thread where ideas are discussed, so don't take any thing personally anyone... And keep it on Topic please...
