The creation of a stickied "Where's that thread!" thread.

I can't count how many times I've lost track of where my favorite threads were at. Not to mention I spend at least 30 minutes a day (when I'm on FFF) trying to find old threads, which ultimately leads to failure on most occasions. AND, a thread finding thread would also help newbies find their way around here!

So, I propose the creation of a "Where's that thread!" thread. It's simple. You just sticky the thread so people can find it right away. If you've lost your way around the forums, or if you're trying to find a specific thread, just say "hey, I'm trying to find a thread about this/that", and other members can either speak up if they know where it's at, or help you find it!

Well? What'ya think?? ^.^

Actually that sounds like a really good idea! And it can really help for those who are thinking of creating a thread but don't know if there is one like it or similar. The search thing we have on this site doesn't work very good I think and it's not really reliable, so I think this can actually help out a lot of members.

That's not that bad idea...The problems I see with this is:

- Newer members ignore the thread and post a thread anyways. As they ignore the help booth section and user name change thread for example. :/

- Can cause spam, but that can be taken care of. People tend to repeat things.

- The "Where to find" thread is used for a while but it eventually dies out.

Other than that, it's a pretty good idea and it can help members out for sure.

Of course...I already figured that newbies would ignore the help offering anyhow. But members like myself (and Bei Bei ^.^) would probably find it very handy.

Yeah, I would find it handy as well. x_x Searching for topics is time consuming, and sometimes you think they don't actually exist but they do. (Different thread names...) Some threads aren't located in sections that I would except them to be actually located in as well. :/

isn't this exactly why we can subscribe to threads via our control panel?

But thats the esay solution, and theres the search feature too, these just get ignored however :wacky:

In agreement with the idea though, could stop a lot of duplicate threads.

But for that to happen, it'd have to list every single thread made and the place it was made. Furthermore, it would have to be updated all the time and every member would have to frequently read it to prevent "duplicate threads."

Subscription + search > another thread :P

so is it like a contants thread? That would be great. I'm always forgetting where to find threads.

I'm up for it. I agree with Bei - the search feature isn't exactly reliable. It gives you threads that doesn't even seem to relate to the subject you're searching for. =/ I know there's threads that I've read from a long time ago that I wouldn't mind checking again, but can't locate the exact location.

And say for instance that I haven't posted in that thread but wanna do so now...the subscription thread would be kinda useless on my part since I have mine set-up where it'll automatically subscribe me to threads that I've posted in. So yeah, can't entirely rely on subscription notices either in cases like this...

Yeah, that's a problem when search for threads. Members word threads differently. So while searching you think the thread would be called "Blah blah what is your blah blah" whatever, and instead the thread is named something else, but it's the same subject.

Also going through pages, and pages, and skimming through all of the old topics.

Thats a brilliant idea, it took me ages too find the hot man thread the other day

Although I think it's a good idea, I see Riku's point, it's much easier to do that, I've forgotten that there is a subscribe option :/, but I wont hurt to try.

I think some of you got the wrong idea. XD

The idea is just to have a thread that you can run to if:
+ you aren't sure that a thread already exists
+ you're looking for a general topic
+ the search option isn't giving you what you want
+ you never subscribed to the thread in the first place, and now you can't find it

So if you're looking for a thread, go to the "where's that thread" thread, and ask around! Someone is bound to be able to help you out! ^.^

This is why we can subscribe to threads, so I don't see the point. If that doesn't work, then check back through your posts until you find the thread.
But then again, why not try?

The only problem is you can't subscribe to a thread if you can't find it. The whole point of this is to make it easier to find certain threads. Once you find them you can subscribe to them.

Another good think I like with this is that if you are looking for a thread and no one can come up with if it exists or not, it makes it really easy for creations of new threads. I don't know about you, but sometimes I hate hunting around to look for if a thread was made on a certain topic.

If you have thread subscription switched on, then it automatically subscribes when you post, so you shouldn't have to worry about that.

And isn't it your job to point people in the right direction for threads that have already been made and such like?

Another thought occurs too; the shoutbox. Most of the time, there's people active there, so if someone wants a quick reply to where a thread is, they can ask there.

What if you haven't posted in the thread yet, the subscribe isn't going to help you look for a thread which you haven't already posted in.

And I don't think the mods want their inboxes full of members asking "do you know where this thread is" and then we have to go around and search for them when we might not even know if it exists or not. And how many members PM mods to find out if there is a thread. Hardly ever, they just make it and we end up having to delete it if one like it already exists

Doing it in the shoutbox is an alright idea, but not everyone uses the shoutbox, and the shoutbox is by no way a very organized way to do it, expecially if you don't pay that much attention to the shout box, or if you general don't use it. And what if you ask your question, but then have to leave. You're going to have to come back later to ask the question again in the shoutbox and hope that someone will answer or even see it.

Use another method.

You got me wrong there. Let's face it, it's highly unlikely that new members are going to use the proposed thread, and are just going to go ahead and make a new one. It's then your job to point in them in the right direction. One could argue that as staff, it's your job to know what threads we already have. (As much as is possible).

See above point. It's not very likely that a lot of people will use the thread either.

But how do you know if we don't have it? Why not let a trial run of it first to see how it works out.

I mean some of you look at it as not needed because YOU don't need it, but what about the members who might need it. I would actually find it useful a lot since I find myself using the search this forum has and come up with anything but I want

This thread would be the other method since we don't have another method to find a thread besides the search feature which is unnreliable
