Hey everyone. Hopefully a 'new guy' thread is okay for me to create. Technically, I joined in... 2008 apparently. But I also only posted a few times. I lurked here, off and on until 2010. While I never stopped playing the series, I did fall out of the Final Fantasy community for a few years. I just got really frustrated with all of the unfair salt that FFXIII was getting (obviously that doesn't include the legitimate/fair criticisms... got no problem with those). But I didn't know how to articulate or defend my thoughts well back then, so I just backed out of the community.
Fast forward to FFXIII-2, and the broken slots minigame. I decided to join the Final Fantasy IGN Boards, to try and initiate the creation of a guide for making the slots as painless as possible. I've been hanging around there ever since. But -while I have no intention of leaving over there- it's been getting more and more dead by the year. So I figured I'd (re?)introduce myself here.
I like exploring ideas, game design, art, etc. As such -partially because I'm an illustrator by trade- I understand that very, very few decisions when making entertainment, are done without the hope and belief that it's the best decision they can make. So I like to respect and explore these decisions in as fair and constructive of a way as possible. Even the worst games have some idea that's worth re-using or dissecting. And those projects also still usually took the team thousands and thousands of hours of hard work to create. Those are the sorts of things I enjoy discussing personally. I don't care for "X-game is teh wurst/b3st gaem evaaar!" rhetoric. I like nuance, and dealing with realities, even if it means squashing things I personally love for being unbalanced or broken (or praising things I dislike, for doing something extremely well). It's why I started a YouTube channel, it's why I crave the chance to play absolutely any game I can get my hands on, and it's why I join communities like this. I just always want to learn/explore more
And in case it's not already apparent, I'm verbose as heck. It's not rare for me to create walls of text, which is why the video review for FFXII I'm doing right now will probably total out to be over two hours of content, lol. Every time I tried to edit down the script, it just got longer. The point is, I talk too much and I hope that's not an issue.
I'll shut up now
EDIT: I also tend to edit posts... a lot. I'm never satisfied with how I say something, lol.
