How much is to be expected? (FFXIII)

Well FF xiii has 2 other sequels so I must expect alot from the Main game because it is the flagship title and I believe This game is going to be one of the best Final Fantasy's ever just look at the graphics!!!

Graphics have nothing to do with how good the game might be.

I'll say that the graphics look like the best I've seen out of any series, Lightning just looks so real!

Unfortunately for me, I'm not a graphics person, so I won't be one of those people who judges a game off of it's graphics. Give me good gameplay, good characters, and a good storyline and I'll probably really like the game. However, if XIII doesn't rank high in those elements and just has good graphics, then I couldn't care less about the game. And for some reason, I think that will be the case with this game.

Once again, I don't want to get attacked by any fanboys/fangirls, so sorry if I offended anyone!

I know graphics have nothing to do with the gameplay but still I really like the graphics in xiii and Lighting does look so real and by the way she has really nice legs lol. I bet the gameplay from what we saw is amazing.

I'm with Claudia on this one. I've seen brilliant graphics in ps2 rpgs along with a select few on xbox360, but the games were not what I would call RPG material.

Here's what I mean by this, you can throw a good combat system (gameplay), you can throw amazing FMVs at it as well (graphical movies), along with putting as much detail in the art and the characters as possible, but if this final fantasy does not have a good story line.. Well I'm on the fence.

I'm like any Final Fantasy lover, I have played most of them from FF I on NES to FFIII on SNES to FVII on PSX to every other installment past VII, so I know a bit about this franchise.

In the past with FF I (the first of it's kind) I completly loved it when it first came out. It was probably the best rpg of it's time. FFIII I wasn't able to play till after VII, but of course VII was the best of it's time to.

The only reason VI (III on SNES) and VII were so amazing compared to others is because of how much depth they put into the story line and characters. If they only made these two books, I would read the heck out of it. Each character you could identify with whether it be Locke or Terra or Sabin on VI, or Cid or Cloud or Tifa on VII, it's what made these two brilliant games. FFX was the only other FF that people could identify with mostly, and unfortunately the last installment had people on both sides of the fence. My opinion being.. they messed up bad on the story along with character developement.

If either Versus or XIII are lacking, I do believe this will be the last "FF" installment of their time. They put way to much money into this to be lacking in any areas at this point. So let's hope for the best.

I hope that XIII is done well as it would be a great boost to Square-Enix and co. But I don't care about them, all I want is the most fantastic game ever to appear on my TV and say 'You shall not leave that chair for a month' :)

i think if your making an rpg for a next gen consoles then the graphics should be top notch and are important

Yeah we can live without them and they arn't the be all and end all, but if im paying £49 for a new game then yes i think they are important, i want the full package , and why not? Square are great for this. Do you remember how amazing it was seeing the cut scenes for FFVIII for the first time on a ps1? I want that for XIII

For the record with the FF series i do think that a good story is the most important thing

I think the story and gameplay are the most important factors. But the graphics should be good as it will be the first Final Fantasy game on the next generation of consoles. However I think for some people, the story will never be as good as VII, but hopefully with all the time they've put into it, people will be happy with the outcome!

I won’t lie – I have massively high expectations for FFXIII and versus. The list of things that I want: First and foremost, I want a good story. FFXII’s story was massively disappointing, and I didn’t feel much of a connection to any of the characters.

Secondly, absorbing game-play. I want the battle-system to be fun and engaging. Also, Square should go back to the Materia that was used so brilliantly in FFVII.

Thirdly, and most importantly, the game should have longevity. In other words, loads of mini-games and side-quests. FFXII didn’t have any mini-games. FFX had blitz ball, FFVIII had that card game and FFVII had chocobo racing, so I’m expecting FFXIII to have a good mini-game.

Last but definitely not least, the bad guy should actually be frightening. The only two FF villains that have ever scared me are Edea and Sephiroth. Seymour was camp and that guy in FFXII was incredibly annoying. So yeah, I want a frightening bad guy.

I guess everybody has high expectations for this game because it's the first time Square-Enix has put a Final Fantasy on a next gen console, it's the main title of the 'Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII Collection' apparantly. Sounds ok to me! :)

What got me into the final fantasy series was the music FMV's

I started playing the series at X since everyone told me the games were shit (Dumb fps players) But when they put X out on ps2 they seemed to bust out and show off what they could do. So they put a lot of CG into it. I'm hoping Versus and xiii have a lot of CG, since xii didn't seem to have much at all :(

I got into FF on ten and I have to say since then I haven't looked back. Ten is by far my favorite FF with 7 and 9 close behind. Right now I'm playing 8 for the first time. I've played all of the 2d titles except three and most of the spinoffs. What I want out of 13 is a good story.

Like i said the first one i played was 10 and thought it had one of the best stories i have ever experienced. Then I played some 2d titles and then played 12...Oh man was I disappointed in 12 for sooo many reasons...but mainly a crappy story and crappy characters. To me I have seen a pattern with square in having crappy characters since after 7. Even 10 had some crappy characters but the story made up for it.

But in the least I want a good story and some good characters. At least a main character that doesn't whine or is past puberty. Also i want to feel like if i don't go and kill this villain RIGHT NOW the world is going to come to an end....not like in 12 where it was mainly...ehh if I don't kill him then some other country is going to get taken over...and since its full of big lizards and talking turkey looking things...i'm not too worried.

wow you are right. I was kinda let down with final fantasy XII with the story. I was like this is a spin off tactics in a way. I'm really hoping that final fantasy XIII lives up to all the hype. I also believe that they will push the game back to keep people waiting

i dnt beleive that FFXIII will live up 2 expectations. although it will b a good game it has been hyped way 2 much and tbh it looks a little disapointing

this is the opposite for versus XIII and i believe this will the game 2 look out 4

In all honesty, out of all the FF releases I am least hyped with this one. Sure it should be decent being the first PS3 installment and all, but I just don't "feel" it. Final Fantasy XII was a let down and yet I played it longer then any other Final Fantasy game because of I liked the game play itself.

I hope this proves to be better then I expect though. Maybe it is a good thing that I am not hyped about this game. That way I can enjoy it more rather then being over hyped and being let down.
I am the exact same way, while I loved XII, it is my least favorite FF game of the ones I have played (IV, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X and XII), it just felt the least like a final fantasy game. I actually wasnt that hyped about XII until I read a review after it came out. While the plot was good, the voice acting was a much improvement over X, it just lost that fantasy touch. And by looking at XIII, it looks pretty realistic to me and the touch in graphics previous final fantasy games had does not appear to be there. The more realistic the graphics, the less fantasy-esq a game is for me.

Will I get this game, more than likely I will, but I will wait for reviews first.

SE really needs to come through with this, a few of their big console releases of late have been less than expected.

FFXII was my first FF, and then I played Tactics and Crisis Core for the PSP in that order. Was trying FFX, but the story's not near something enough to push past the temple puzzles when I could be playing Halo 3 or XII. Being relatively new to the franchise, then, I'd have to say I'm pretty open about this; I'll probably wait til it's cheaper and buy it used instead of paying $60 up front, but I don't really have high hopes or low aspirations for this game.

I had low expectations for the Love Guru, so when I watched it with friends it actually managed to amuse me at parts. Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a good movie, but I was able to laugh with some things instead of muttering to myself all hour long.

In contrast, I was rather hyped for Pirates 3. I was let down pretty harshly. You just have to keep an open mind about things, but I understand that's hard to do if you've been playing the same thing for more than four games.

Let me put this straight.

Never, and i mean never have big expectations for something in your life cause if it does not pay those expectations you 'll feel terribly frustrated and sad.
As Chuck Schuldiner entitled one of his songs:
Expect the Unexpected

Remember all the hype for FFVII Dirge of Cerberus?
Man, i was there back then on Adventchildren.net forums when we were all living the hype ... and you know what?
I was holding a back opinion, that this game might not be as good as the hype wanted it to be.
I was proved right.

Just don't get too excited with the hype and all, and i';m sure you 'll enjoy the game when it comes/whenever it comes As it Is!

Eventhough the latest SE takes (Look: Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant) got so much hype around them and never, honestly NEVER deserved it.
Although some might enjoy them, it was a big dissapoinment for many out there.
Their handheld takes though (Look: Dissidia, Crisis Core etc) lived on the hype and were celebrated among the fans.

So, in conclusion... i don't know what to wait for.
Even though i can see a good battle system there on the trailer, the whole thing doesn't get me too much excited...and that's bad.
The trailer lacks the epicness of the Main story and holds it's base to Two Single characters...well that's definetely not good for me...

Well, what else to say....
Have to wait untill some new information i guess :)

I'm expecting from this game to be different than the other FF games.FFXII didn't feel like a Final Fantasy game too me.
And I'm expecting new and unique characters, also original, not copies of other FF characters. It's true that we like to see our favorite characters in spinoffs and etc. but I would prefer if they put more originality to it.Maybe they don't do it sometimes because they know that they fans may not like the change but changes and experiments are needed even if you've invested in it.
From what I've seen from trailers or scans, the enviromemt, stages are pretty well designed but for FFXIII is too busy.I would like to have the feeling that it's not so far away from today like it seems FFXIII versus(looks more "real" to me,if that's the right word to use).
