How much is to be expected? (FFXIII)

This thread is for primarily those who have stayed true with the Final Fantasy franchise and didn't start just because they played Final Fantasy VII. It's fine if you did, but let me get my point out there.

Have you noticed how the Square Enix team has never really hit many of their release dates as of current? Also have you noticed how undeveloped some of the latest installments have been? With each new final fantasy comes great expectation for it to be the best installment yet, but when it comes out "I believe" we tear the game apart usually unless it's a brand spanking new concept or a unheard of plot. Originality is very very hard to find in these new RPGS.

For instance FFXII, how many of you were just like me in buying this game? Meaning, how many thought this story would be the best yet and that the gameplay would be phenomenal. And then how many people were let down just a bit? How many people feel like if some of the newer installments didn't have the name "FF" on it that it wouldn't have ever appealed to them in the first place?

So what's to be expected with FFXIII? Are you like me in thinking that this game should stray away from the norm in final fantasy? Or are you like most fanboys where you want another cloud wanna-be or Squall wanna-be ... or for the ladies - Tifa wanna-be or Yuna wanna-be?

I hope for our sake that SE spends all the time that is needed to come out with FFXIII, but are we desensitized already in thinking that this should be a groundbreaking new game and if it isn't.... then yet another dissapointment? I would hate for them to rush this game, just for the people who are impatient.. let's hope they come out with a home run on this one.
 
i hope this game is worth the wait and even though i want it to come out soon i agree that it should not be rushed so in a way I would like FF13 to be better than halo3 gears and mgs4 .. but we just have to wait and see for now.
 
In all honesty, out of all the FF releases I am least hyped with this one. Sure it should be decent being the first PS3 installment and all, but I just don't "feel" it. Final Fantasy XII was a let down and yet I played it longer then any other Final Fantasy game because of I liked the game play itself.

I hope this proves to be better then I expect though. Maybe it is a good thing that I am not hyped about this game. That way I can enjoy it more rather then being over hyped and being let down.
 
I actually think they are putting alot of effort in the game and it is worth the wait. I hope lightning and snow are not the only playables though that would just suck.
 
I heard that the square team rushed final fantasy XII as they were focusing primarily on XIII ( which they were developing at the same time as XII ) which was being released on next-gen consoles as oppose to XII which came out for ps2 and xbox.
Im not getting my hopes up too much but i think FFXIII will be really good, i reckon square are gonna pull out all the stops to show what they are capable of doing on a next gen console. Ive seen a few trailers and im quite impressed with what ive seen so far, but il just have to wait til it comes out before i can properly judge it.
 
I really hope this game will be the best one in the Final Fantasy series because It looks as it but Am really not that sure if this game will actually beat ff Vii and ff X. I really think that vii should get replaced by XIII.
 
im expecting big things out of it, i have seen many trailers and read many things, i read somewhere that there hoping to expand on it as much as they did on FF7, and seeing as there is more than one game coming out in the final fantasy 13 Universe these being called: Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII, these three are said to be in the same universe but not connected in the "current" games, is it possible that they will make a sequel where character from the 3 final fantasy 13 games meet as they are in the SAME universe? or am i just speculating to much?
 
Based on time and preference I think final fantasy xiii is worth the wait. I really do not think that all the characters from the 3 xiii,s will not meet. I think that they all have good stories up to now though this might change as so far versus and xiii have the best story. Another fact is that am forced to get this on 360 because the ps3 version is japan only.
 
That can't be right.

Anyway, I hope they won't let me down. There are too much spin-offs today.
And that kind of breaks the good name.
 
No No, there will be a PS3 version called versus. Now I'm pretty sure but not 100% sure if the normal FFXIII is coming out on PS3.

I would rather play versus thanks to the dark story line and the amazing characters. (please note that FFXIII and FFXIII versus are in no way related - story lines are completely different)

It's coming out for both the PS3 and the Xbox 360

So far, both XIII and Versus look like they're going to be great games. The characters unveiled thus far all look like they have a lot of depth to them, especially Noctis and Stella from Versus. Square Enix has spent a long time devoloping XIII as well, so the storyline should be well thought out and enjoyable.

Also, the PS3 version of XIII won't be released until the 360 version is done, so they're doing everything they can to make both fantastic.

Heard this, but honestly I might wait on XIII and just got for versus right away. Noctis indeed intrigues me along with stella, but that's for another thread.

Again though, I hope this game is not another waited out dissapointment. I don't mind a "mediocre" combat system, as long as I get a good story line along with unique characters. I started playing rpgs on "turn based" 2D graphics, so I have seen the ups and down for each rpg, but the major breaking point is the story line.
 
Final Fantasy, XIII I am expecting alot of things from this game. Oh and I heard square are going to make it online playable or maybe it just means online downloadable stuff or online minigames. Is it true that only lighning and snow are playable or is that just the demo.
 
I'm not expecting much at all. I think this is just an attempt to make a game as successful as VII. After all, the character designer was asked to draw a female version of Cloud. They're also trying to make spin offs of the game before its been released, which I think is pathetic.

On another note, Snow looks like KHII Seifer with the whole wigger thing going on. Ha, I bet the main villain is going to be just like Sephiroth.

Whos knows, though? Games that I don't get excited for end up being my favorites, and the ones I look forward to end up being awful in my eyes.

Sorry if I offended any fangirls/fanboys, although I can't imagine why there would be any a year before the game was released.
 
i just want a good game! i don't care about VII, besides being a great game(the best final fantasy) it does not signify the image that all final fantasys should live up to i think the fact that they are all different is the best thing about them. the only ones that are that bad are the spin offs other than that they are all good

but besides that i do think announcing several spin offs before XIII is released is very pathetic and a stunt
 
Hi, i'm new to this. Hello all and nice to meet you. I may be wrong but i don't think square enix would be stupid enough to release a game with this much production cost and hype on only the 360. Besides if it only comes out on 360 i'm not gettin cos the amount of time i spend on these games a 360 would definately breakdown!lol:P

p.s all final fantasy games are brilliant in different ways!

Well FF xiii has 2 other sequels so I must expect alot from the Main game because it is the flagship title and I believe This game is going to be one of the best Final Fantasy's ever just look at the graphics!!!
