Who here actually finds them scary?

I will jump out of my seat when something quickly appears out of nowhere, especially when it is accompanied by a loud sudden noise.

But it is rare for me to find a game scary. When I was younger (about 9-10) I used to find Silent Hill very scary, no game has scared me as much as Silent Hill since then. The only game which has recently scared me is F.E.A.R, but I don't find games very scary in general.

Yeah i know what you mean. Sometimes you feel like a twat for jumping when something happens. Last scary game i played was dead space, that had a lot of moments. For me its scarier when you can hear something, but you cant see it, your're just waiting for the moment when its gonna jump at you. But i find once you get into a game its stops becoming scary and more the norm.
Silent hill was scary, especially back in the old days....the school brings back memories.

When I saw this topic title the only two names that came to mind were Silent Hill and F.E.A.R. Even still after thinking I think they are the only games that I will category under "Horror". Some people like to mention Resident Evil with these, but I think they are more suspense. I will admit to jumping to Resident Evil but it doesn't freak me out like the others.

I am the type of person that does not get freaked out over a scary movie, but a scary game is on a whole other level. It is almost like you ARE the protagonist and you fear being attacked just as much as if you were in the situation yourself.

As a younger child I would constantly try to play Silent Hill in the dark, but I would only do that if somebody else was in the house with me. Yes, I was afraid.

I recall playing what I think was Silent Hill game that somehow involved nurses and needles. Considering that I'm prone to fainting spells when seeing needles, I never even considered looking back. In fact, that just put me off horror games completely.

Resident Evil is more of a suspense type game, but it does have its intense moments. From the top of my head, I recall from RE4 where you're in this long hallway, and you know there's one of those monsters with the multiple plagues inside them (can't remember what they're called) and you have no idea where it is... but, you could hear its goddamn breathing :gasp: That is probably the one part I just couldn't play at night.

Crap, I'll admit I'm a wuss at scary games and movies. I can't stand them. I said it another thread, I find practically any game that's remotely tied in to horror as 'poo-inducing' scary, like Prey (which really isn't even that scary), or believe it or not, shooting games like Quake (story mode). It's hard for me to get over the whole 'they jump out at you and want you dead' thing. It's stupid too since I generally love good lighting, and all horror games have the best lighting. :monster:

F.E.A.R remains the only game to have done it to me. Play that shit on your own in the dark of night and bricks will be shat. :monster:
I generally don't find videogames scary, jumpy maybe, but not scary. F.E.A.R however pushed that boundry and I really didn't want to finish it. :wacky:

Silent Hill gave me nightmares a few times and there were some jumpy moments. Dead Space is a good one for jumping and crapping ones-self almost lol.

Not so easily. If I'm focused enough, nothing can scare me that badly. Just an increase in heart beat, and I'm back to focus mode.

Though, sometimes, if i lose focus, and the monster strikes, I can get frightened badly. But I've never experienced jumping out of my seat whilst playing/watching horror movies.

When i watch horror movies, i tend to scrutinize a little too much. So much that i can roughly guess what happens next. (I remember watching a horror movie 'Shutter' with my cousins, and at one part, they were in a house, looking for this girl. Outside the room, they saw bugs crawling on the classic Japanese room door, the one that slides. I immediately assumed a dead body to be there. And the next second, they slided the door open to see a dead body. Spot on. I loled, and everyone looked at me, nice.)

I have dreams about Silent Hill but I certainly won't call them nightmares, because I think the monsters are beautiful. I'm a huge fan of horror games, even though don't get scared of any of them. Haven't tried F.E.A.R. though.
