Heretical Final Fantasy Admissions

FFVII is still my favorite FF to be honest. Here's why.. and you might be able to see it from my view. I have said this many times, I played FFI when it first came out on NES and have been following all the FF's since. Now when FFVII came out, it was purely revolutionary as far as the plot and story went. It combined futuristic with medieval/Samurai/Ninja (swords) basically, and not many games had touched that yet. Limit Breaks, Newer revolutionized summons/espers. I mean granted the game was freakin easy, but exploring in this game is what people mostly remembered.

Each character had their own back story, and true most of it revolved around cloud, sephiroth, tifa and Aeris.. but if you followed the game, you know why. The whole Jenova cells and Zack/Aeris and all that.. I mean they did a damn good job with the game. The theme was dark, and if most people remember it was filled with swearing, which I cried my tears out from laughter. The art was out of this world spectacular for the times as well. It is the sole reason of why this game was the most revolutionary game in the series itself. Most games that came after it just used the same art.. somewhat different story line.. but mostly the same aspects though of the story line.. FFX was the only one that came close to branching away from FFVII, but then they came back to it with FFXII, hince why it was a snoozer.

-----------------------------------------------------------

So moving to most hated - FFXII .. what a disappointment. This was the first game of the series I literally let play for myself. Of course you didn't have to set up gambits, but who really wants to gimp themselves just for their own satisfaction? I mean it's a game mechanic.

Gameplay was outstanding, but the story dragged so much I was tired of playing it from time to time. I had to take big breaks.. came back to it and finally beat it. Vaan was not very likable for me, the story revolved around the kingdom theme... yet again, and it was so unoriginal that a kid could have written it.

That's the thing I hated most.. story.. if it wasn't it for being so dang bad, this game would have actually been the best of the series.

I think IX in one of the best games of the series and one of the darkest IMO. I feel that it is very underrated and that the kiddie designs throw people off.

Also, I feel that Zidane is a better main character than most in the series. He was cheerful, but not overbearingly and he did have his one moment where he wasn't. And he was a flirt. I got sick of all these asexual heros D: And it was nice to see the theif as the main character.

Zidane and Garnet are my favorite couple in the series. Their relationship felt real and it took time to develop. There also wasn't the super pure girl with the brooding soldier. Zidane clearly wanted to get laid and Garnet knew that XD. And they have my favorite romantic scenes in the entire series.

I think Garnet was one of the best female leads. She wasn't the typical pure innocent girl and she had real responsibility in the game. (She did take over Alexandria after her mother died.) And we finally got to see a female character with real issues and she had a damn good reason for them. And she also really grew as a character.

I think Freya and Vivi are also underrated as FF characters and often fogotten. Ok, not Vivi as much, but he does get over looked for Cloud, Squall, and Auron. And we got a male mage!

IX also had some of the best cut scenes and events in the game. The festival of the hunt was fun and different, I enjoyed jumping rope, and the destruction of Alexandria and Lindblum was amazing and really made you feel for the world.

And Kuja is underrated. People hate him because he looks to feminine, but that didn't stop him from doing all the things he did including destroying an entire planet.

I'd probably rank IX as my fourth favorite game. But it is close to third. (VII is still third for me atm but it's rabid fans and compilation are really ruining it for me. So I have to block them all out)

It's funny that you mention FFIX is one of the darkest, Rydia, because when you compare it to others before it like FFVII and FFVIII, it seems more of a lighter one if you focus mainly on the protagonist, Zidane.

However, going into the plot and the destruction of worlds and the evilness of the main enemies in the game and how much destruction is brought onto Alexandria, it's hard to really label it as a light game. Sure maybe the characters are cute and fuzzy and childish, but the path they take in the adventure we call FFIX, is no where close to comfortable or a "joy-ride". Never realized FFIX was actually darker than most would believe until now.

I thought
Zack's death in Crisis Core was more sad than Aeris' Death. (even though I liked Aeris' character about 100000X better.) I guess it just has to be the main character.

Although people have mixed feelings about it, I thought the Sphere Grid in FFX was the best "leveling-up" system in a FF game.

I actually liked (and played) FF5.

I think Zidane is the best character in Dissidia:Final Fantasy.

I thought Vivi was more awesome then Sephiroth, Kefka, Cloud, Aeris, Locke, and Zack.

X is my favorite. It has a great battle system, a great cast of characters, and the best plot of the series. I'll admit that VI and VII may be objectively overall better, but X is my favorite.

I like II. A lot. I'm very puzzled by the general dislike/hate of it. It was the first FF with a plot, and the way they handled leveling was clever. I never had any trouble with it.

I prefer the spelling 'Aeris' to 'Aerith' and wish it had never been changed. With Aeris you get the play on words with heiress and Eris, plus it just sounds prettier.

Squall is my favorite FF lead. I think he was a very nuanced character and I relate to him a lot, which is pretty rare for me with main characters.

I quite like Tidus as a character. He was a bit annoying at first, but I think of all the FF heroes he might just have the most moxie.

In everything besides the original game, I think they've gotten Aeris' character totally wrong.
