FFVII is still my favorite FF to be honest. Here's why.. and you might be able to see it from my view. I have said this many times, I played FFI when it first came out on NES and have been following all the FF's since. Now when FFVII came out, it was purely revolutionary as far as the plot and story went. It combined futuristic with medieval/Samurai/Ninja (swords) basically, and not many games had touched that yet. Limit Breaks, Newer revolutionized summons/espers. I mean granted the game was freakin easy, but exploring in this game is what people mostly remembered.
Each character had their own back story, and true most of it revolved around cloud, sephiroth, tifa and Aeris.. but if you followed the game, you know why. The whole Jenova cells and Zack/Aeris and all that.. I mean they did a damn good job with the game. The theme was dark, and if most people remember it was filled with swearing, which I cried my tears out from laughter. The art was out of this world spectacular for the times as well. It is the sole reason of why this game was the most revolutionary game in the series itself. Most games that came after it just used the same art.. somewhat different story line.. but mostly the same aspects though of the story line.. FFX was the only one that came close to branching away from FFVII, but then they came back to it with FFXII, hince why it was a snoozer.

So moving to most hated - FFXII .. what a disappointment. This was the first game of the series I literally let play for myself. Of course you didn't have to set up gambits, but who really wants to gimp themselves just for their own satisfaction? I mean it's a game mechanic.
Gameplay was outstanding, but the story dragged so much I was tired of playing it from time to time. I had to take big breaks.. came back to it and finally beat it. Vaan was not very likable for me, the story revolved around the kingdom theme... yet again, and it was so unoriginal that a kid could have written it.
That's the thing I hated most.. story.. if it wasn't it for being so dang bad, this game would have actually been the best of the series.
