Hmm, have you been to the Green Room at the Hotel? There should be some cutscenes there and you'll learn about the keyblade and the Heartless. After the cutscenes with Leon and Aerith, you can then unlock the gate at the Third District, which also allows access to the First District. Kinda like a shortcut.
but before that you need to fight the armor heartless
Go from the second district down past the alley way down into the door that leads to 3rd district
