Help deciding on what to buy.

Ok, so, I'm buying two games: FFXII and another one outside of the FF series. So I'd like to know which games would you recommend. I have various candidates but I can't decide between them:

Vagrant Story
Xenogears
Star Ocean
Xenosaga
Shin Megami Tensei series (I'm totally new to this series so I'd like a bit of input on this one)
Legend of Legaia
Disgaea
Dark Cloud
Tales of the Abyss (or any other of the Tales)
Kingdom Hearts
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Valkyrie Profile
Odin Sphere
Baldur's Gate
Neverwinter Nights

I know it's a huge list. That's why I'm asking for advice. I'm looking for a game with a great story and setting (I like medieval fantasy the most) and accessible and fun gameplay.
 
Kingdom Hearts or Xenosaga. ^_^!!

I'd look up some info from Neoseeker or other sites to check them out. I love both of those games though.
 
Legend of Legaia, seriosuly good old skool RPG! You wont regret getting it. Also look for Koudelka. Its the prequel to the PS2 game series Shadow Hearts, a horror RPG. Very good also!

And Legend of Dragoon and Grandia! Super RPGs!!

I've played all the above and would recommend them all.
 
Star Ocean-I would reccomend getting all three. There is one for the SNES, one for the PS1, and one for the PS2.
Disgaea-great game, but prefer Disgaea 2.
Kingdom Hearts-If you like FF, then you'll like Kingdom Hearts.
 
Of those on your list, I've only played Kingdom Hearts and I hated it, to be frank. >_<

Tales of Eternia's a good game! But it's for the PSP. I dunno whether you want to have a game only for the PS2.

I own Vagrant Story, but I've only played the intro. The gameplay is an awful lot like FFXII's so if you want something very different to XII, wait until later to get this game. I hear the story's very good though. I really need to start playing more games.

I've heard good and bad things about Star Ocean, and it's a game I'd like to try out one day. I've heard it's not really as good as FF, though, so I'm not sure if it's a safe bet.

Xenosaga! I really want to try this game too! It looks a lot of fun and I've heard good things about it.

And as someone said above, Suikoden V is a good game to add! ^_^ If you don't have that already, I think you'll love it!
 
I'd say one of the first three

Vagrant Story
Xenogears
Star Ocean


If you want a game that you can play longer then get Xenogears or Star Ocean, Vagrant Story is short, but it's one of the best games on the PSone imo.
 
Having played Vagrant Story before FFXII, I would suggest you buy that too as when I played FFXII, it really did feel like a sequel (it takes place in the same world just many years after Vagrant Story if I'm correct). The art style of characters are almost identical. Although Vagrant Story takes place in one large city and it's outskirts, it's still varied enough to be enjoyable. The story is quite entertaining...especially the ending which I didn't expect. There's a huge number of weapons to make and finally, it has some of the better characters I've ever seen.....namely Sydney Losstarot. I have been waiting for a proper sequel to Vagrant Story, but in the meantime FFXII is as close as it gets.

I honestly enjoyed Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts I and II, Valkyrie Profile, and Xenosaga. So those are my recommendations. I heard that Vagrant Story and Star Ocean are quite good, so you may wanna look into those too.

Okay....For Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Night, both good games but they're Western RPGs. Not sure how many Western RPGs you played but they're very different from Eastern RPGs....Japan RPGs. Western rpgs are you can determine your fate (become good or evil) and hack and slash.

Fire Emblem and Odin Sphere I heard good things. Odin sphere is a little different....it's a bit overrated and harder than your average rpg.

Since you love Final Fantasy go for Kingdom Hearts and Xenogears. Xenogears is about 80 hours worth of game play, very good game!
 
If you can get a hold of Xenogears at a reasonable price I'd definitely say Xenogears. I found Xenosaga to long winded and I'm not a fan of Western RPG's so I can't say much about those.

Xenogears for sure. DEW EET.
 
Avoid any Suikodens for the PS2. After playing the PS1 ones, these were a huge dissapointment.

Mhm, Suikoden 1 and 2 were amazing, especially 2 one of my favorite games I've beaten it 5-6 times maybe :D
