hello all....hoping this is a quick question that can be answered then I will be out of your hair.

my son is a big fan of the series, I got him a ps4 for his birthday yesterday...he saw the Stormblood preview so he went out and got it (with his mom, we are separated and they live in another state)

she is no help, that's a whole other story, heh.

anyways, he called me saying he can't play Stormblood he didn't realize it was an expansion and not the game.

my question is this as he already opened it and Game Stop may not take it back....he found on the play store a FF XIV online starter pack for 10 bucks...can he buy that and then use the Stormblood expansion?

any other ideas of what he should do in this situation?

thanks in advance to all I am sorry to bug everyone.

the FFXIV online starter pack is basically "A Realm Reborn" and the expansion that followed it was "Heavensward", luckily Stormblood already comes with Heavensward :)

this is what it says on the Stormblood game page on the PS store

* Requires ownership of FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Starter Edition or FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn to play and an active service subscription to FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. Includes FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward.

So yep! it'll work!

follow up question, is there an additional charge for the service subscription? appreciate your help trying to walk him through this over the phone.

the online starter pack comes with a free 30 days subscription, but after that you're going to pay according to the membership tier you pick (you can change it whenever!) I'll recommend Entry if your son is planning on playing on a single character for now! here are the prices from the official website :)

Anytime you havent seen him for a month, just cancel the subscription, he'll come running >,>

talking to him now...he inserted the game to put onto PS4....he used the code in the game thinking it would let him play the game. Since he can't play the game he uninstalled it....does this mean the code in the game cannot be re-used....he paid with the game with birthday money so he's trying not to be down here.

sorry my other reply didn't post....given what I said above...do you think Game Stop will let him return the expansion?

hmmm I'm not sure what kind of code Stormblood comes with, doesn't say anything about a free sub code on the product page
If it was a sub code though then it's added to his account it would still be there even if he uninstalled the expansion, but I honestly don't know if game stop would allow returns or not D:

First you need the core game of XIV and that code, he needs to install that first. After treading the waters or using the jump potions and progressing through the story he can then play the expansion, but you do need to install that starter pack first.
