Not sure if we have a thread about this or what. So what are some of the hardest and challenging games you've played to the point that your knuckles go white when you ball your fists? Please state the reason why - do not just list games and leave it at that.

I've got a few list, but they are pretty recent ones. I don't really remember much from the older games, although I heard that a lot of games from back then were super-hard.

Anyway, here they are:

The Last Remnant - It's definitely a battlefield. Probably one of the hardest games I've come across recently. The reason is mainly because when players play the game for the very first time, they are not aware that the higher your Battle Rank is (meaning if you grind a lot and link more than two enemies into one battle), the higher the difficulty level for bosses. You have to be really watchful of your characters' stats and make sure your BR is as low as possible, but not too low that you're having a hard time defeating some bosses. So that's where it gets to be really tricky. You have to be under-leveled in order to gain more power, which kinda sucks. It's kinda like FF8, only worse. I've restarted the game once just because I couldn't beat this one boss at Base 5, and it was taking me about 45 minutes per battle! After four or five attempts, I restarted and was more careful with how I played. Apparently though, even veteran players of this game had a hard time defeating the final boss, The Absolute Conqueror (a more difficult version of the regular boss, The Conqueror). I haven't beaten the game yet, but I can't wait!

Ninja Gaiden Black - I played this with my brother a few years ago and I must say it was kinda hard. We had to re-do tons of battles and it was just a pain in the ass. We never did finish the game since we had to return it to his friend, but we got to this level underground where you face skeleton monsters or something...not sure if my memory serves me right. But yeah, we knew we were a goner since our health was low and we ran out of health items. We got to be pretty deep in the level too...

Dead Space - I recently bought this game for my husband and we're currently playing it on Easy Mode...it's not even easy. >.> I mean it's not extremely hard, but difficult enough. We're not that far into the game yet...we haven't been saving since we wanted to get a feel of what we're up against, but from what I see so far, it's not easy. The monsters sneaks up on you so damn quietly sometimes. I wonder what it's like on Normal, Hard, and Impossible Mode. >.>

I think that's it for now. I might think of a few more later.

Only one game
Crimsongem saga:This game is reeealy hard. the difficulty is very imbalanced and makes the game unplayable. it is too hard to even finish

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

It's easy on most modes, but on the hardest one (veteran)
It's near impossible to get through some parts.
Took me forever to beat on that mode.
The enemies know exactly where you are and are always shooting you,
and they only need a couple shots to kill you on veteran mode.

Pfffft! All the games you guys mentioned are noob games :P If you want to try something seriously hard, look no further than I Wanna Be The Guy. A game designed to drive even the most hardcore game masochist mad with frustration. Seriously, I dare you to try and complete it. I only made it past 4 screens before I finally gave up.

A little youtube demonstration if you don't believe me:

Difficult games?

Well Touhou can certainly be... Insane. Especially on lunatic mode.

It's probably best just to provide a minor example like Sir Kenneth, so I'll direct anyone who's curious to this video. It's just a short example out of hundreds upon hundreds of "spell cards".
Maybe this is a better example, I dunno. I'm not even sure if it's on lunatic mode in these vids.

Anyway, getting hit by a single laser or bullet is instant death and you have to use a continue to keep going. Using a continue means (of course) forfeiting a plethora of extras.
Obviously you don't get infinite continues either.

Star Ocean : Till the End of Time. That game took me forever to beat. I eventually gave in to buying a guide for some of the parts. Just most of the dungeons are hard to navigate, with lots of deep-thinking puzzles. And since, I believe, the monsters level up after you beat the game, they can be insanely difficult to fight to. Overall, it can be really difficult, if your not prepared for the battles, and long dungeons.

Hmm, well. I haven't played many games overall, but I must say that Xenosaga Episode II is hard. Some normal battles can be harder than bosses. It's not that the battle system is complicated, I understand it perfectly, it's just that many things can go wrong during a battle. For example the damage that enemies do can vary greatly, the difference can be in the thousands. You have to time your attacks correctly, etc.

The hardest game I've played is God of War 2 on the Titan difficulty. It takes forever to upgrade your weapons and the bosses seem to be insanely harder than before. I have actually gotten to the point where I feel like throwing the game out the window.

Timesplitters 2, although good, had some very hard challenges to it. A lot of the platinum awards were nearly impossible to get, and I could barely beat the second level on hard mode. The second to last level, the Robot Factory was damned hard on normal difficulty. I'm sure I'd weep if I ever tried it on hard.

I had a Turok game for the original Gameboy, and I couldn't manage to get past the first level. It wasn't that anything was hard about it, but right at the end of the level there was a door you had to go through, but it was blocked off by a massive wall that you couldn't get over or past in any way. I tried for weeks to figure it out before I decided it wasn't worth the hassle.

I also struggled a bit on Second Sight, which is a shame because it was a fantastic game - particularly the level when escaping the insane asylum. Once I got to the level in the FBI headquarters, though it all went downhill for me.

And Enter the Matrix too, but I think that was probably just because I bought a second-hand copy that head no instruction manual so I struggled a lot when it told me things like "punch with the punch button". As if I'd never have figured that out.

The original persona.
One wrong move during battle can mean certain death for your entire party.
Also dungeon navigation makes it so you can lost easy, not a game for the RPG newbie.

I find most of the games I play quite easy (maybe I just playing the wrong games).
The only game (at least the only one I remember) being VERY hard is Final Fantasy I.
As I played the NES version, I thought "What the f*** wrong with this game?".
It really was very hard, at least for me, and I thought that I'll never be able to complete this game. But it was worth it, as I have very enjoyed it in the end. I think the fact that it was hard, makes FFI what it is: A great game. At least for me.
