Green-Lit Final Fantasy VII Remake?

Seems like it, but...

most likely within the next few years.

i wouldn't get your hopes up just now. Would be too early to do that :P I hope there will be a remake.

I don't know how reliable that site is, and I can't remember exactly when this interview took place, so I'm not entirely sure. I know there was a time in Paris that Crystal Bearers was discussed. I suppose we can take his words for it.

Even so, nothing is really confirmed, I imagine it's only an idea at this stage. I personally want SE to focus their strength on new material instead. A FFVII is not necessary. It will be extremely draining and will take a long time to make. Also remakes can ruin things and destroy some nostalgia if not done right.

I feel like a broken record, but a FFVII (and FFVIII, and FFIX too) remake is to be expected. Probably not for years to come, but it'll happen -_-

I'm more interested in a FFVI remake tbh :hmmm:

Definitely- it's certainly a better FF in my opinion. :ryan:

I missed out on FFVI Advance and I don't know what happened to that old PS1 copy of it that I "borrowed" :hmmm:

FFVI has better characters and a better story than FFVII in my opinion. As a protagonist, Terra seems to be more likeable for me than Cloud. Kefka is perhaps the best FF villain- which some don't agree with- I understand.

FFVI on DS wouldn't take long. A PS3 full FFVII remake however, may set SE back about 3 years as an estimate.

I remember seeing this in another thread, just my hands are too cold to go searching :sad3: Anyway, I really hope they DO NOT remake VII simply because there is no point in it, I don't see why people want it so badly, it may have been revolutionary during the era it was released but in to today's general gaming world it would struggle to overcome some of the better games in terms of quality.

One of the makers of crystal bearers said this, he doesnt know for sure at all, square enix is a HUGE company and completley divided so his word is just about as good as ours. We all know its going to happen too.

I dont get it when people say "there is no point". I would love a VII remake, it would be a chance to bring VII into this generation, and revists FF's prime. Most importantly, turn final fantasy VII into a huge cinimatic experiance!

I don't believe it will be coming out just yet, maybe in a few years or so because it's too soon, seeing how they're coming out with 13 and such.

No thanks. Final Fantasy VII worked just fine as a videogame thank you :P I don't think we'll see a remake in the near future, but it would be cool to see FF VII make its way to digital distribution on other platforms than the Playstation 3. An Xbox Live or Steam version would do very well I reckon.

Well, there were advertisements for voice actors on a legit voice acting website, and it looked legit too, but then you'd need even more evidence to back it up, like an official statement.

Although, I don't think a remake is needed, unless they turn it into a completely new game with updated graphics and all, but even nostalgic games sell very well, take a look at Blizzard's RTS games, which are at least 10 years old.

It's mainly because the people who don't see the point don't want to continue making FF a cash cow, it has had it's time, now it's time to move on. Plus, I don't think people realise that the graphics won't be the only think to change, SE will need to strike a balance between FFVII fans and the general audience. Something has to give.

I don't know why that site decided to post about it so late, it's just rambling about an old article.

Last month, in support of the upcoming release of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers

The thread originally posted about it is here, and the news article they're talking about is on scrawlfx.

Anyway, I personally don't care. It would be nice to see how it would look, but I don't think they should only remake VII on the PS3. True, they haven't remade it anywhere else, but that's probably because they've made so many other games for it. There are other games that I would love to see remade on the PS3, and they're not Final Fantasy VII. I've had my fill of it already.

If you're trying to say that the people who do see the point in a re-make are about the money and milking the game, then I disagree.

I'd enjoy VII for the refreshed graphics, and as said, to bring it into this time, rather than having it linger behind.

I'm not a rabit fan, I like to think I have some common sense about VII. Yes, it's my favourite, and yes a remake, as in just upgrading the graphics is fine in my eyes. =/

It's not like it's gonna be VII-2.

It'll be VII in a newer jacket.

Everyone to their own opinions I guess.

The only thing I can say about this is they had better remake FFV and FFVI before they go remaking FFVII. Not to mention they have GOT to give this game a rest. All the FFVII shit they're constantly milking is making a lot of people (myself included) downright sick of the FFVII in general. I wouldn't believe a site like this tbh over an actual gaming news site or even a gaming magazine as legitimate. It's interesting how that site has this supposed information on a remake where as we've heard nothing from any other site yet.

I think they'll remake all the games eventually, there's just too much demand for them. Although, as Mandi says, I'd like to see them remake FFV and FFVI first, if you're gonna do something, do it right. FFI, II, III and IV have all been remade, so V and VI deserve to go first.

I think eventually FFVII, VIII and IX will be remade, but I think it might be for the successor of the PS3, rather than the PS3 itself.

If they do decide to remake FFVI, I will probably rejoice more than a Moogle finding a new pompom. However, FFV will have to go first (which is fine- I haven't played it before). The team who does the remakes should get on to that rather than waste time on spinoffs that will probably be Japan exclusive.

Inevitably, a FF7 remake should be on SE's agenda somewhere. They're not likely to ignore what may be a huge source of money in the future. If it is remade, I just wonder how it will hold in the present climate of video games. If I were to guess- I can see it as being a style-over-substance kind of remake.

I think ever since FFVI, there has generally been more style over substance. FFVI never had the new, lush graphical candy that is present in later games. The compensation was a gripping story with deep characters you can empathise with. I suppose FFX can be excluded because I loved FFX :ryan:

I'll reiterate with I said before- SE should move forward and make new things. Though I wouldn't mind a FFVII as beautiful as Advent Children, it will be very taxing in time and resources. Also some people may be sick to death of it.

I don't know... We all know IGN is a legit site, and this could possibly be the game Hiro is announcing this spring. I'am however skeptical.

I heard about that. I'm fascinated to see what Sakaguchi has to offer. Although I don't think it will be a Final Fantasy related game at all. He broke away from Square and is now with Mistwalker doing their own things.

It will probably be an original title he is doing rather than another Blue Dragon. I hope this time it isn't Xbox 360 exclusive because that would be foolish as previous exclusives haven't performed that tremendously. Unless of course Microsoft has control of them and I can't remember if they do or not :hmmm:

I never said that. There are genuine fans of the game, all I'm saying that there is also a large audience who just think they're milking the game further to make more money when in all honesty there isn't a need for a remake, it's just what the fans of VII want. They could easily not remake it and continue with the new games for the series without batting an eyelid.

However, I don't think for such a large game they'll simply update the graphics and leave it at that.

OO Right Right. Hiro's at mistwalker now.. so this is 99% possibly unrelated to the first link. Thanks for clearing that up.

Well unless we get new news or confirmation or a debunking of the original article we are going to have to sit and wait I guess.
