Inspired by Aztec Triogals thread "Over-rated series" I had to make a thread on the opposite as reading that made me start thinking of great Video Gaming series I had played in the past. I shall endevour to name some of mine and why...

Street Fighter: Simply my favourite series ever. Hooked on the game ever since 1992 when I happened to walk past an arcade machine and saw Blanka rolling through the air. Great series, and unlike Tekken or SNK games, sequals are not just carbon copies but usually come will a totally different engine and gameplay style and even a totally different line up of characters. Memorable characters and memorable moves, and M.Bison is possibly the greatest villian in gaming history!

Mario: Im going to include Mario World and the sequals on the various platforms from the humble NES all the way through to the Wii. Super Mario 3 was phenomenal until Mario 64 came out and I was just WOW. Back then, there were three games that really made me go wow being "FF VII, Mario 64 and Quake". I'll throw in the Mario Kart series as well. Many many hours wasted playing against mates on Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64 and DS Mario Kart. If you don't like Mario, then well...not much I can say. All I will say is they are some of the most original games ever and its why Nintendo are possibly the greatest games company ever.

Doom: Doom I, Doom II and even Doom 64 were excellent. Completely atmospheric and andrenaline fueled, this game was scaring people long before Rez Evil came along. The soundtrack was also excellent for this game...there was nothing like walking into a new room, seeing a key and just knowing that grabbing it is going to set off a trap, normally when you only had a shotgun and 50% health. If it wasnt for DOOM, you probably wouldnt have had the equally excellent Duke Nukem, Quake Series, Half Life, Golden Eye, Perfect Dark and all the other excellent FPS games that followed. There may have been Wolfenstein first, but Doom really put FPS games on the map.

Shadow of the Beast: This one is a bit of an oldie by Psygnosis who im not even sure exist now (they went on to make the Wipeout games) and some of you might not of even heard of this series. There were 3 games in total, but the first two had a totally unforgiving diffuculty setting. If you died, you had to start right from the start again. This series had some of my favourite soundtracks ever, and Shadow of the Beast the first game for the time had state of the art graphics. It was released on the Amiga and ports to other games just looked shocking and poor show. It looks slightly dated now, and the enemies look bland, but the backgrounds were immense and used an unprecedented process at the time, paralax scrolling. For anyone interested, YouTube it. Make sure you watch the Amiga version though.

Monkey Islands: Another old series, this was a point and click game. You controlled the hero known as Guybrush Threepwood and your aim was to foil the plans of the undead pirate, Le Chuck. Hugely satirical its a shame these games died out, though I do hear another Monkey Islands game is in development.

That's all I can think of for now. I could mention the Metroid series but i've only played a couple, both of which I thoroughly enjoyed, but im sure the rest of the series is also very good.

Greatest series of games of played non-Final Fantasy? Super Smash Bros. of course. :monster: That is my favourite video game series of all time, even over Final Fantasy...

Just such darn good fun duking it out with the Nintendo All-Stars, and in Brawl, even a couple of guest, third party characters which are both awesome. :awesome:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl is my favourite game is the series easily, and my top 3 favourite playable characters in it are, in this order: Charizard, Lucario, and Wolf. ^_^

Tales. (namco)

I don't really play a lot of video games due to financial difficulties, but the Tales series has brought me a pretty nice gaming experience.

Other than that, I'd probably have to say party games like Mario Party, Super Smash Bros, etc. come next.

Legend of Zelda: It's hard for me not to list this first, it's a series that I'm very passionate about. I've played all of them and I intend to keep doing so. The original Zelda and A Link to the Past both revolutionized how games would be presented for years to come, and the combined efforts of Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time pretty much defined how action-adventure games would function in 3D. Even so, my favorite game in the series will always be it's first handheld game: Link's Awakening.

Tales of...: This was already listed on the thread, but I thought I'd elaborate as to how I enjoyed the series. My first Tales game was Tales of Destiny, the plot may have been average but I fell in love with it's gameplay style and I continue to play the game to this day. I've also played Tales of Eternia (AKA Tales of Destiny II), Tales of Symphonia, Tales of the Abyss, and Tales of Vesperia.

Xenogears/saga: At first glance, Xenogears didn't look all that fantastic to me... That is until I played it. It remains to this day one of my all time favorite games due to it's deep, emotional, complex plot and enjoyable characters. Xenosaga is another good one, although I felt it fell short of the Xenogears legacy.

Breath of Fire: They really shouldn't have stopped making these games. Breath of Fire II is one of my favorite RPG's, I just got hooked on it's story. The other games in the series were also greatly entertaining, but I still like BoF II best.

Tales of. This series will never end it is just so good. I love every character design. Namco did a great job on these games and like I said it will NEVER end. Also I can not wait for tales of vs. Tales is awesome and beautiful. I love the music and there is always some nice jokes and lots of romance.

Star Ocean: Well I only played TLH right now and its just so great. I love it and im like plaing non stop right now XD. I love the Private actions in Star Ocean some of them get so funny like the shower scene in Star Ocean TLH.

Xenosaga: My second favorite game series of all time. I love this series and I hope they do make an episode IV. The story was so great and I absolutely loved the character designs. Kos-mos being my favorite character.

SSBB: Its just so fun to fight with all the nintendo characters well actually some characters get boring but its fun anyways. If only there were more characters.

wild arms is the best non-final fantasy series for me, heck its probably the best video game series of all time in my opinon. it has great characters, and good storyline. some of them didn't have the best gameplay wise, but most of the games did.

.hack sereis is also really good too. .hack has like one of the best storyline ever in my opinion. the gameplay got a little boring at times but the story just kept me engage in teh game and just made me want to continue on even though you're kind of doing the samething over and over again in battles

I've gotten really attached to the Growlanser series. It's not very well known, but I found the gameplay to be pretty fun. So far, I only own 3 games from that series since the others weren't released outside of Japan. But still, from the three I've played, I enjoyed every minute of it. The Growlanser games aren't very long (except for V) but the stories still got to me.

Another series of games that captivated me is Star Ocean. I got introduced to it when I got curious and bought Till The End of Time. After that, I got hooked. I refused to sleep. I just kept going, no matter how tired or hungry I got. When I finished that Star Ocean, I started looking for The Second Story. I was going backwards, but I didn't care. I still haven't found it, but when I do, I'm sure it's more non-stop gameplay for me.

Then, there's also the Shin Megami Tensei series. I have to be honest that at one point, I loved this series even more than Final Fantasy. The plot just draws you in, kind of like gravity. The games from this series tend to have a very dark atmosphere (I love that!), especially Persona or the Digital Devil Saga. A darker example would probably be Nocturne. The music from this series was also another heart stopper for me. I got addicted to it, especially the songs for the boss battles.

That's pretty much it, I guess. These 3 are the only series of games I worship that isn't Final Fantasy.

Grandia - Loved the 1st grandia probbaly in my top 10 games ever it was one on the first RPG's i ever played i was taken in by the gameplay and the storyline the 1st one in IMO was a letter better then the 2nd one though

Max Payne - First game i got with my Xbox i spent days and days playing this game i left halo to one side for weeks just to play it.

Star wars KOTOR - played this so many times now so many different options you can take in this game it's a game you need to play again once completed
it suprised me how well done it was

Metal Gear Solid is definitely my favourite vidya game series (alongside Final Fantasy). The series has blended a great story with very entertaining gameplay. I have finished most of the MGS games several times and I haven't gotten sick of any of them yet.

I've recently discovered the Fallout series of games thanks to the sensational Fallout 3 and proceeded to pick up the 3 previous games in Fallout, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics and have found them all to be great fun. The first 2 games especially provide a world in which you really feel like the decisions you make matter as opposed to just changing one line of dialoge within the same overall story.

I still rate Fallout 3 as the best of the series purely for the first person perspective and although it doesn't quite have the same feeling of action and consequence of the earlier games I feel it is a far more immersive world.

Legend of Zelda: The adventures of Link have been a captivating and thrilling pleasure of mine for my entire gaming career, and from the look of other posts, other people share a similar feeling. The constant adaptation of the Zelda series has also provided a constant "breath-of-fresh-air" feel to the series. Definitely my favorite gaming series.

- Prince of Persia series on the PS2. Great story line and the game play is insane!!
- Max Payne, this game is an old one but still insane and great. The story is twisted in a great way.
- Pokemon, I really enjoyed playing Pokemon blue,red,golden...etc. it was a great game.
- God of War it's the same as POP but it's bloody and epic.
- Call of Duty, living as a war hero is great but it's stinks when you die :P
- Resident Evil, all of us know it's a great series ;)

Elder of scrolls, final fantasy and resident evil for me :)
Mod Edit: Can you please put slightly more effort into your posts please. Thank you =]
