Playstation Grand Theft Auto Vice City and GTA 3

Okay... my stepdad recently bought these... but for my 8 year old brother. I've played San Andreas and wouldn't be comfortable letting a child play that particular game and while I would assume they're all quite inappropriate, my brother is making a huge fuss over it. I haven't gotten a chance to play the games yet, but... with all of the guns and weapons that were in San Andreas at least, I can't see it being appropriate at all... am I right in this? Would you let a child (6 to 8 year old age range, as I have a younger sister who would probably be allowed to play it too if my brother was) play these games?

I'm pretty sure of the answers here, but I want to make absolutely sure.... maybe the games used to be tamer or something, although I'm doubting it

Oh and both are rated Mature, which I would assume would make anyone think they're inappropriate for a child... but some people don't look at ratings apparently. <.<

There is excessive use of very strong language (cunt etc.), graphic violence (using a chainsaw and samurai sword to kill people as well as guns) and strong sexual themes (you become the owner of a porno company and can pick up prostitutes).

Basically everything you'd want to keep away from young children.


They are actually really fun though. You should play them!

They actually are very brutal, and totally unsuitable for anyone below 16. I really don't think your brother should be playing these games. Not only do they contain the above themes, but they glamorize them, make them attractive.

No, it's definitely not appropriate for an 8 year old. Both GTA3 and Vice City are both not as graphic and brutal as GTA San Andreas, but nonetheless, they're still too graphic for an 8 year old. As for the mature rating, for some games it wouldn't be that bad for a child, something like the original Mortal Kombat's. Some mature ratings are a stretch, but GTA is definitely reasonable rating.

Suitable for a child? Not in the least. However, I played them when I was very young and turned out normal.....ish.
