Here is a list of all of them, which ones did everyone get?Quezacotl,Shiva Ifrit,Siren,Diablos,Brothers,Carbuncle,Leviathan,Pandemona,Cerberus,Alexander,Doomtrain,Cactuar,Tonberry,Bahamut,Eden,Chocobo,Phoenix,Odin,Gilgamesh

I was sure we already had a thrtead on this, guess it got archived

Anyway, first play through I missed about half of them, but I always get them all now, Eden was a swine getting to, having to go through ruby dragons and Bahamut then down the whole sodding facility..... I do have a habit of forgetting to draw Siren from Elvoret though ¬.¬
 
The only GF I always seem to miss is Doomtrain. I always never have the correct items needed to get him(excluding the ring you find in disc 4 or 3). But since I got the book now, on my playthrough now I should be able to get the items needed and acquire Doomtrain.
 
I got all of them. =) I'm a completionist, so I wouldn't rest until I got them all. XD And they have some unique and very useful abilities, such as Revive, Call Shop and other stuff.

For some reason I always used Shiva more than the others. Her compatibility level with Squall was always the highest. But I tryed to use all the GFs because they had such nice attacks! I just think I haven't used Siren very much though. Diablos was one of my favorites after Shiva, followed by Bahamut. Getting Bahamut was a little pain because of that blue light thing, but it's always worth it. :D Cactuar's 1000 Needles always saved my life, they did some huge amount of damage. And I liked using Tonberry for the lulz. DOINK! :D
 
On my first play through,I miss a few of them,but was able to get them in Ultemcia's Castle. I think the only one I didn't have on my first play through by the time I finished the game was Tonberry King.

On all my playthroughs since then,I have gotten every one of them! Im also a perfectionist so I have to get/do everything in the game! It's alot of fun getting them though. ^^ The only ones I dread having to get are Tonberry (just because you have to fight through so many,but I always use Kamikaze) and Jumbo Cactuar (just because he loves to run away).
 
On my last playthrough, I got all of them. I was DETERMINED to. I wanted to complete FFVIII once and for all, and then never touch it again. So, I made sure I got ALL the GFs, just so I wouldn't have the temptation to turn it on one day and go "well...I missed Eden..."

I actually felt pretty accomplished when I'd finished too. Especially since in my first playthrough, I missed Siren :wacky:

I got all the GFs from their proper places too, not from Ultimecia's castle.
 
I hate those shitty cop outs, spend all y our time getting the damn GF's the hard way, only to be able to draw them all from the sodding bosses in her castle, it's like, an insult almost, like they think the majority of us cba or won't be able to do it, so they give us drawables in the final dungeon, give us SOME credit...and those that really COULDN'T be arsed one way or another to get bastard Eden, then tough fucking shit -_-

I did that the first time I played - only noticed later on when I saw there was a conspicuous gap in my GF screen and that I couldn't figure out how to get ST-Atk. Googled up a strategy guide, saw what had gone wrong, thought "buggrit" and restarted.

On my first playthrough, with like 5 to 6 friends, we missed all the ones you had to draw. Now and days, since I know to draw now, me and my friend have all of them.
 
Yeah on my first play through I missed a few. I think I got to Lunatic Pandora on 3 missing Carbuncle, Pandamonium, Tonberry King, Cactuar, Doomtrain, Bahamut, Eden.

I started again and got them all again, I was pretty crap I think then.

One of my mates got to Ultimacia's Castle with Quez, Shiva, Ifrit, Diablos. He was like level 30 as well, ^_^
 
I've got to the bit just before you go back to balamb on disc 2- after FH. I have the complete top row of GFs, and I don't think I've missed any...
 
Yeah, I got them all on my first play through. None were that difficult, just draw at the beginning of every boss fight, and if there was a ???? I made sure to grab it. The only frustrating one to get was doomtrain, but the levels that you gained on the island closest to hell whilst fighting Marlboros was a nice bonus on that.
 
^^ the GFs didn't show up as ???? they showed up as a name- but if you tried to draw them you could only stock it, not cast it. And not all of them work like that- Diablos, Cerberus and Ifrit weren't...
 
No he means that when you first go into the boss battle, it shows up as ????, unless you fail to draw then the name will show up, for example, siren and carbuncle.
 
I've never noticed a GF to be listed as ???? and Ive never failed to draw it first time either .... o_O

I never had that- I always manage to draw them first time, and they are always named on the draw list- for example (picking random magic) with Elvoret I had a list that looked something like

"Cure
Cura
Fire
Siren"

And that was at the beginning of the battle, as soon as Elvoret turned up. I've never seen a GF listed as ????.
 
Ive got them all on quite a few playthroughs, i always feel inclined to collect them all as each GF has unique abilities. Siren can be annoying to get, for some reason shes always the one il forget to Draw >_< doomtrain aswell can be afa annoying, collectin all the itemss is a pain, but hes worth it once you get him.
 
Hmmm, idk, but for me it showed up as ????, then i would try to draw with Selphie or something, and she almost always failed the draw the first time on every playthrough, then it showed up as Siren which i got with whoever got the next turn
 
I got all of them on my first playthrough. Doomtrain was kind of a pain to get. I had to keep mugging Malboros and then fleeing before they attacked to get those damn tentacles. :gasp:

Diablos was kind of hard too because I waited a while before rubbing the lamp. Damn gravity attacks.

Surprisingly, I didn't miss any that you have to draw. That was one of the first commands I used whenever I went into battle.
 
I think the first time I played it through I missed Siren, mostly because I had no concept on how the draw and GF system worked. FF VIII was the second FF I played, and the first one was VII so I was kinda used to playing that kind of FF. Anyway one my second play through I got almost all of them. Except I think Bahamut. Just because I couldn't figure out the damn thing at the underwater lab or whatever.
