ok,this guy is not popular in the series at all.I dont see anything about him in this site,so I made a thread to support the villain in the first final fantasy. The only talk that we could have about this guy is dissidia, acting as the leader and supposedly acting as chaos.Or final fantasy 9,I dont know about his role in this game so someone please explain that its the same garland or not.we cant go much in depth about him in final fantasy 1 other then him being the main antagonist.

garland is a cool villain and my favorite character in the entire series,of course hes not popular like sephiroth.Another reason why i made this thread,do you think garland will make his same appearance in dissidia as in a ff 1 remake?do you think square enix will ever make a remake of this game?if they ever do,would you like square enix to go more in depth/info about garland?

Garland in FF1 and 9 are two different people :monster:

Also, FF1 HAS been remade... Has been for 2 years now I think :hmmm:

Personally? Garland has some epic lines for his short appearance in FF1, it's a shame not more is known about him.

Actually, it's been said that that was the Garland. Garland can never really die ^^

I agree that Garland is awesomeness though. :P

EDIT:
Its been remade for PSP, not DS. :P

Seriously? Weird how he goes from a Knight to a time traveller with a link to Chaos to being the leader of the Genomes, who was a mage then :wacky:

I wonder why he went all nice in 9 then... Kinda out of character :hmmm:

Remade on PSP, I have the game myself.

I wonder what Square's details were on Garland's 'transformation' between 1 and 9. In 1 he travels time, not dimensions O_O suppose it explains Kuja's bitter attitude to Garland in Dissidia...

Guys, this topic is for the discussion of the character, Garland. Please do not derail the thread with posts about remakes of FFI. Thanks. :)

In Dissidia he's based on his battle sprite from FF1, as for weapon, that was made up, unique to Dissidia. Funny how Dissidia Garland>FF1 Garland :gonk: I was hoping for him to mention how he will knock us all down, but no... 'I'll crush you!' instead -__-

Garland should have more background history,i know that him having no background already makes him a mysterious character but look at the other villains, some have detailed backgrounds like sephiroth, garlands like cloud of darkness and ultemicia.

Yeah, that kinda made me a bit sad to hear no "I'LL KNOCK YOU DOWN!", but I suppose crushing someone would be the modern equivalent.
What I don't get is why they kept a line like "YOU SPOONY BARD!" in FF4's remakes, the "I'LL KNOCK YOU DOWN!" line in FF1's remakes, yet not when it came to the game that was a celebration of the whole series. Kinda strange, huh?

Dissidia gives Garland a background, but it's hit-&-miss with fans. Basically, Garland
was an experiment created by the Lufenians to take down an enemy empire. Which he did. When Cid's wife (his foster mother) got shot, he went apeshit, opened a portal to the Void & then got really, really pissed off, which explains the whole Fiend thing.
Everything else is a mystery.

As for his FF1 incarnation, he's one of the most successful villains ever. The fact that there are Dark Elves in the Temple of Chaos implies they have something to do with him, so he's responsible for the downfall of the Kingdom Astos attacks & the attack on the elves.

Everyone the King of Cornelia sent after him got their asses handed to them, so he had that Kingdom at its knees.

When you get to Melmond, shit gets real. Personally, I think the devestation of Melmond was possibly the single most shocking thing a villain's ever done in FF, even moreso than Sephiroth killing Aerith or Kefka poisoning Doma.

The Fiends--make that Fiend, Tiamat--devestated Lufenia, turning it from a technologically advanced empire with airships & floating castles to a single village. Presumably, the other Kingdoms are small for a similar reason.

Also, I'm not sure if this is accurate or not, but I've heard that Garland planned to use the Time Loop to ressurrect himself in the present after the Warriors of Light defeated him.

Dude's freakin' scary.

excellent point of view,im planning to go in more depth about garland since hes my favorite character and not only liking him cuz of dissidia.Im new to ff a bit(not new new),i first first founded garland in dissidia,i had no idea who he was b4 and i didnt know he existed.

It's really hard to get any more "in depth," because FF1 has almost no emphasis on characterization. You could give him a psychological profile from Dissidia, but in some ways, it doesn't entirely make sense. You could also try to connect his story in Dissidia to FF1, but there's really no confirmed order of events, which makes it difficult. That's the great thing about Dissidia, though: It can win your respect for characters you've never even heard of before.

It certainly will win my respect for garland, thank you. Im actually nearly clueless about garlands background in dissidia,I would just check ff wiki and forget at times.

I had to look up the Cosmos & Chaos Reports because the way you obtain them is retarded. That's where the majority of the backstory of Dissidia lies. However, they're somewhat cryptic, so in some ways, they aren't that much of a help at all.

it doesnt really matter actually, its cool to have a favorite character whos a mystery,no background actually makes the character mysterious.

I'm not just talking about characters, I'm talking about the entire storyline of the Dissidia/FF1 combo. Also, there is a line between "mysterious" & "underdeveloped."
