game length

Umm, no. 4 discs is enough for a PSX game.

I do think that more content should have been added into the 4th disc though.

1 disc just to kill Sephiroth was abit of a let down IMO.

VII only had 3 discs.
VIII and IX had 4.

Besides, their last discs were strictly end-game as well.
Tradition, I guess.

Oh, that's right! , thanks for the correction.

That "end game" disc was annoying though, i mean there should be a ton of sidequests in the last disc, it would be alot more fun that way.

I don't think they were able to put a lot of side quests in the game because the last disc was to give you the freedom of being able to travel all over the world and to be able to revisit places thats probably why they had mini games and side quests during the first two discs. You still get to do a lot in the third disc from the games in the Gold Saucer, Chocobo Breeding, The Weapon Bosses and extra areas to find materia and the Sunken Airship Gelnika.

All the final FF discs were mainly just for the roaming about and the final boss because the technology they had would not allow a lot of content like side quests to be put in because of the size of the world map so that why you get to do some side quests and mini games during first discs but one or two more side quests in VII would have been nice but an extra disc would have made it to long and they probably would not have found enough stuff to fill it up so the last disc would just have been the boss battle and thats it.

No I don't think the game should of been longer.. It was already considerably lengthy imo.. Any longer and the plot probably would of started to drag.. I think it was the perfect length..

...The Final Fantasy games are kind of like The Lord of the Rings movies. Sure, they could be longer and add in more stuff from the books..but they are already about three hours long. Making them longer wouldn't be frugal.

The early Final Fantasy games, in the 199x and 200x, had four discs due to the sheer amount of content that was already there. Adding in any MORE content is asking for a, what, five or six disc game? With the waning attention span of the newer generation, and of gamers alike, expecting someone to sit there and play a six disc game is kind of hard to do...unless you're a hardcore FF Fan (like most of us.)

I mean, Jesus, even on the XBOX 360 FFXIII was two discs, and that's with a new gen system that can handle a large amount of data.

I'm still wondering how FFX was only one disc....
