Okay... so... once upon a time you could find both steel and wooden full size Hyperion gunblade replicas on eBay... but wouldn't it figure that when I finally decide to get one... they are no where to be seen!

My friend and I are planning to cosplay as Squall and Seifer, with his girlfriend dressing as Rinoa, for some conventions later this year... we have the costumes (all three) and we have even just acquired a full size wooden Revolver Gunblade for him... but now we just can't find a wooden Hyperion anywhere... I did find a steel one listed on an online store, but I would much prefer a wooden one, since this is cosplay (though I may still grab the steel one, anyway).

But yeah... so I was wondering if anyone here knew where to get a full size wooden Hyperion Gunblade since this is a pretty large FF fanspot. So yeah... anyone know where I can get one? Or, hell... does anyone have or know where I can get a pattern design to make my own?

Why do you prefer wooden over steel for cosplay? I always see those steel FF swords (buster swords, gunblades, etc.) at those Import Channel stores, and they look mighty keen. Too bad I'm not a collector though. :elmo:

You can find anything on eBay, to be honest. I'd simply advise you to continue in your search for the above item. If there's truly nothing to match the search, it could be something as simple as the keywords. Personally, I've never known Seifer's Gunblade to be called 'Hyperion' and so the possible sellers may be unaware of this, too. It could be under something as simple as "Seifer's Gunblade" or a variance of the latter name.

Perseverance is a sexy quality.

Steel weapons are not allowed at anime cons. Mainly because they can be very dangerous and the con would be held liable if anyone got hurt. So he has to have a wooden weapon.

This thread would be more fitting in the cosplay corner so,

And, wouldn't wooden weapons be easier to hold anyway? And I'd imagine less expensive...

Thanks for the suggestions and what not... I still can't find a wooden one (even after scouring a couple auction sites for just "gunblade"), but I did go ahead and order the steel one... though, as has been mentioned, I won't be able to take it to cons.

I think I'll end up making one based off the design of the steel one, once it arrives. Oh, and my friend bought a steel revolver, too, even though he already had a wooden revolver, because I came across one with a rolling barrell and a full action trigger... he thought it was bad ass, lol.

Anyway, once I get it and make a wooden one based on it, perhaps I'll post some comparison pics... and, of course, we'll belt out some poses in costume, as well. Anyway... tahnks again for the suggestions.

Oh... and... uh... did someone say I was sexy? :D

A friend of mine cosplayed Seifer and made his own Hyperion blade out of wood. I could ask him to commission one for you?

Here's what it looked like:

I can talk to him for you and see if I can get some tips if you want to try to make one yourself.

Yeah, ask him for some tips, would you? Specifically how he did the gun piece, as that is my biggest worry in making one, and his gun piece looks just plaine awesome. And thanks for helping out! Its much appreciated.

Hey Takk, you said you found a steel one listed in an online store. How did that turn out for you? Would you happen to remember the website for that store and if they have more? Or was it just an auction site (in which case the one you got was probably the only one they had)? Starting early for next year...

The reason you can't find the replicas that were once so prevalent is because Square started licensing the rights to a company to make official replicas, and then cracked down on all the illegal ones on the internet. Unfortunately the official replicas are only 1/6 of the size, so I'm very glad I got by 54 inch Buster Sword before the crack down.
