This thread is for the Football Manager series of games, and I guess the predecessor Championship Manager series. Discuss all things FM/CM in here!

I first started playing this series with Championship Manager 01/02, and I mainly played at Leeds, who had an awesome, young squad in those days (Rio, Woodgate, Kewell, Alan Smith) plus £40m to spend right off the bat. I had a fairly sucessful game with Watford too, who are great if you can keep Tommy Smith long enough to either play him or get more than a few million for him.

I'm fairly pleased with FM2010 too. I struggled finding a decent tactic though, and found a fairly good one to help get things going in the early days. I am currently playing as Leeds, owning in League 1. I consider this season a warm up, as Leeds are far too good for that division, and should find the Championship a good challenge.

There won't be an awful lot of activity in this topic, but I can't be the only one here who enjoys Football Manager games.

I used to love Championship Manager! Championship Manager 2 (97/98 season) was the first one I played, and to this day it remains my clear favourite. Championship Manager 3 was okay, but by the time Championship Manager 4 came out, too many variables and pointless elements had entered the gameplay, and I left the series behind.

I haven't played Football Manager, and unless they've gone back to the more simplistic "less is more" approach of the earlier games, I'm not interested. I don't care that player "X" is having a sulk because his wife left him and I substituted him for player "Y" last game, and I don't care about press statements and all that other jazz. I just want to set my squad and play dammit! :P

ahhh, Champ Man 01/02. What a game, my team was scoring for fun with the amazing Pawel Brozek up front. Good times.

I've moved on to FM now like many others. I still play 2010 from time to time. I last played as Rotherham (for some random reason...), got them up to the Championship but moved to Ipswich for the money and transfer budget...

I love this game, though Man City are just ridiculous. Why would anyone pay £15m for Lucas Leiva.

I have this game because Ryan convinced me that this was a pretty sick simulator. And so far I'm pretty much addicted to help Los Angeles win the MLS every season plus the NACL and US Cup. :lew:

I love that you can manage national teams in this game simultaneously with your club team so I get the best of both worlds. :lew:

Champ Man 03/04 was the last good one. Ever since Eidos and SI split, both Football Manager and Champ Man have been shit.
Nothing will compare to the rapid text-flashing days of 97/98 though.

Aw man, now I really want to take a look at the old Championship Manager and compare it to the last couple of iterations of FM.

:sad3:

I just bought 2011 and so far it's more in-depth than 2010. I really like it. It's far slicker and more addictive than I thought. I love the new player animations and environment. I can see myself playing this 24/7 during Thanksgiving break. :ohoho:

I haven't got the new one yet, played FM10 and couldn't get into it at all.. I played CM01/02 the other day and downloaded some update which let's you play the 2010/2011 Season on it with all the leagues, players, Staff, Stadiums etc all updated for you.. the earlier CM's were much easier to navigate the transfers/tactics system etc were much easier to use, they had made it far to in depth now and i can understand why but the earlier one's are a lot more addictive.
