So I need a little help here. =/ This past few hours, my Firefox doesn't seem to be working properly. I'll run the program and 5 - 10 seconds later, it closes. On the bottom-right of my screen, a box will come up saying "Firefox has closed. To help protect your computer, Date Execution Prevention has closed Firefox." I don't even know what DEP is, much less how to work it. I'm using Vista, so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem. I'm thinking yes because on my other PC, Firefox works just fine and it has XP.

So now I'm currently using IE, and it doesn't really appeal to me as much as Firefox.

Anyway, has this happened to anyone yet? If so, how can I solve the problem? Why won't DEP close IE as well if it's really intent on securing my laptop? I already tried uninstalling firefox and re-installing it again. Same problem occurs. It's getting on my nerves. >.>

It might be a Vista issue... but Firefox just released an update a couple of hours ago. My guess is your computer either automatically downloaded it and the upgrade is buggy... or you could just go and download the new version and it would fix your current issues.

I did download the newest version after I uninstalled Firefox, so now I have 3.0.4, and it still keeps crashing. Ah well, hopefully they can fix this soon, because I sure as heck can't do it myself. >.>

Do you have any extensions or plug-ins that may need to be updated? They could be crashing Firefox if they were incompatible. You can find them under "Tools" then "Add-Ons".

The only other thing I can recommend is trying to find an older version of Firefox and seeing if that fixes anything. :/ Sorry to hear you're having trouble though.

EDIT: Tielknight to the rescue!

disable all addons/extensions and try loading it up again. If still doesn't work, go to start menu, programs , and in the mozilla folder, there should be a firefox(safe mode), try that and see if it starts, if not, uninstall, delete the program files folder to make sure it's outta there, reinstall and if it still give ya problems, try scanning you computer for any viruses that might of tried to hitch a ride on a addon.

I still prefer Firefox 2 over 3 because the way 3 handles java apps, so ya could ry FF 2 and see if that helps as well.

If all else fails, go with opera :monster:, internet explorer shouldn't even be used as a last resort to be honest.'

EDIT: I did a quick google search and found this, it might help.
I don't know about you guys, but I've been having problems with Firefox 3 crashing at certain sites (GoDaddy.com and Ubi.com seem to be the worst culprits of my frequented sites) and then Windows Vista telling me that Data Execution Prevention has closed Firefox to protect my system. I did some Google searching, and it looks like I'm not the only one having this problem.

If you're having this problem in Vista, you can do the following to bypass it until the Mozilla team fixes this issue

Right click your Firefox 3 shortcut.
Click on the "Compatibility" tab.
Check "Run this program as an administrator.

If you have User Account Control enabled, then you'll have to accept the popup, or enter the admin password every time you start up Firefox 3 depending on how your computer is set up.

I haven't experienced this problem in XP, but if it is an issue, I'm not sure of a fix
or try to add it to the DEP exception list by doing this.

You could add it to your Data Execution Prevention exceptions list. Go to:

Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System, left-click "Advanced system settings", left-click the "Advanced" tab, left-click "Date Execution Prevention", Select "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select", left-click "Add" and then browse for the executable for Firefox 3.

ya could read the rest of the topic here http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/72060/

From what I have read it seems like the Firefox proxy quit working on you. This is the case when a Firewall decides that the proxy is bad for the system. go and turn off your firewall and see if that works.
There can be other ways for it to stop but this is a common cause.

Yeah I ended up doing that, so I'm now currently using Firefox in safe-mode, and all add-ons have been disable there. Whenever I click the other Firefox though (the one I used), it still crashes...I can't even disable the add-ons on time because it crashes in 5 seconds. I'm thinking the problem is indeed the add-ons, but I just can't do it quickly enough. >.> I guess I'm gonna have to use the safe mode from now on...

I got the new update recently and in the end I had to restore my old proxy to keep it from crashing. So the issue is that your proxy changed with the update and thus you could not use Firefox.
To turn off your firewall.
Go to the start menu,
then click on settings,
the hit the control panel.

You should be seeing that if you are using vista.
now you click on the firewall icon and edit the settings to allow Firefox or just turn it off.
