Japanese gaming blog Andriasang has leaked some information regarding the next issue of Famitsu. As of now it is merely conjecture, but we felt it worth posting. For better or worse here is the bullet summary from Andriasang originally harvested from another blog by the name of Game Jouhou:
  • The beta version will see some system changes that will make it so that you can more easily string together your attacks.
  • The alpha test had bad tempo with insufficient explanations. They've made some revisions to the beta, resulting in a completely different system.
  • It will be easier to save up gil.
  • Beta appears to use a different technique for its shadows. The alpha version used something called "Project Shadows" while the beta version uses "Depth Buffer Shadows."
  • The city of Limsa Lominsa will have two levels.
  • There will be a robust log filter in place. This is something that wasn't finished in time for the alpha.
  • They're readying something large scale for your home, which functions like FFXI's Mog House.
  • They'll soon be adding alpha testers as part of the new "alpha 2" phase. They've already selected the participants via drawing!
  • As you play the game you'll be able to freely change the god that you select during character making.
  • Vehicles for FFXIV include chocobo, horse driven carriage, boat, and airship.
  • You'll be able to select different colors for your equipment.
The original source for the below information seems to have been Gahoo of Eorzeapedia in his coverage of the same article via further translation of Game Jouhou's original article. This information has not been listed by Andriasang though they bring up a few possibly interesting points:
  • Items can be signed much like FFXI.
  • Players can participate in the fighting arena (? PvP? Against monsters?) and gambling within Ul'dah.
  • They are considering allowing player bazaars to run while players are logged out.

...Controlling an Airship? Anyone else find this fucking full of win right now? I seriously can't wait to play this game.

:ohshit:

I just hope everything else pulls through.

Thanks for the news, mate.

Actually it doesn't specify that a player will be able to actually control an airship (FFI-FFIX esque). It only says that an airship will be a method of transportation.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but the likely scenario will probably be that you board an airship and it takes you to a particular location itself (FFX and FFXII esque).

With inevitable expansion packs/DLC in the future that could expand the world of Eorzea, sadly I can't see SE letting players actually control airships. >.<

That's just a prediction, it may be wrong though. If anyone here plays/or had played FFXI, do fill me in on how airships work there. :hmmm:

Parade < rain > you :mokken:

Nahh, you're probably right. Geez, but if the player can fly the ship that would be awesome.

I really do hope there's PVP. GOD HELP YOU SE IF THERE ISN'T PVP :rage:

I was hoping there would be factions since there are two variables in every race. Guess not. Still PVP in Arena would be tons of fun, no?

Yeeeeees! That's something I've really missed, controlling airships :gasp: This game just keeps sounding better and better. Really can't wait to get it.
