A leak from the latest Jump Magazine has revealed information about a "new" character from Final Fantasy XIII. There has been some speculation over who the new character might be, but it has been confirmed that character is the blonde/silver haired boy from the FFXIII trailer shown at the E3 Sony Press Conference. In addition to the blonde boy, there's also a little bit of new info about the game itself.

Hope Estheim
  • -The silver-haired boy
  • -Uses a boomerang
  • -Hates Snow for getting his mother involved in the battle
  • -New Monster, "Cie Corpse (Husk?)"
  • -The eventual fate of a l'Cie
  • -Vanille's weapon is a fishing rod (Best way to describe the weapon)
  • -Lightning's great skill, "Air Blast"
  • -A l'Cie becomes a Cie Corpse when there's an unclear objective and they exceed their time limit, or something like that.

Not that much info, but still seems interesting.
I like boomerang weapon. My thief in FFIII had two of them, and they are quite cool,
At least now I know how the boy connects to the story. So it quite obvious he hates Snow (at least for those who have watched all the Demo's cut-scenes)
The thing about the Cie Corpse is quite vague though. Even though I have suspected that there is reason like that to why some kind off organization trying to get rid of those people. As they'll become a threat in the future, or something.
 
Very Interesting.

One question - fishing rod. Do you mean that it can hook an enemy and haul them on for a close attack? Or is it like a rod with a whip on the end? or does it actually have a reel and a hook on it?

I thought Vanille has a modern bow as a weapon, why would she have a fishing rod? I guess it would come in handy whenever the fugitive party camps by a lake or something......

So Hope (Jeez, can the names get anymore bizarre for male characters??!) hates Snow because of what happened to his mother. You mean that woman in the demo that falls down when NORA and the quarantined are attacked?

Amen to that, it's a creative and original name but for a boy, Hope isn't exactly the best choice to use. Then again, it sets the trend for the already weird names in FFXIII >.>
 
Ok but why the fuck Hope? Like thats the most weird Final Fantasy XIII name ive heard so far! The other names are named after weather effects but then again it can be there codenames. Also Orba and Sazh are cool names but very uncommon. Lets just hope that another character is not named Rain.

I agree, Hope is a strange name. Even if you give such name to an animal it'll still be strange.
I don't mind a character named Rain though. I even would like to have one :)
I like the names Lain/Rain. I tend to give the name Lain a lot (for example I named one character Lain in FFI and FFIII)
In Japanese there is kind of L = R thing, so :P
 
Wow, that isn't much info. :P But hey, that little bit is pretty interesting, regardless. I can hardly wait to play Final Fantasy XIII, I am definitely looking forward to the year 2010, should be a pretty good year for the video game industry. :D
 
A boomerang? I guess that'd be cool to see in battle. lol. As for a fishing rod? Uhhh? WUT!? LOL. I have seen some crazy weapons in FF (like a ball for wakka) but a fishing rod takes the cake on this one. =p.

But, Hope for a boy? I've heard it used often as a girls name ... I hope SE aren't just using weird names for the hell of it.
 
Hope is not a great name, like Lightning and Snow...Immo Snow is also worse than Lightning, and Hope is at the same level of the first one...

Two guys with horrible names !

I can understand if I like Vanille, and I'm talking about the name and the chara too...
