Has anybody ever noticed how the Final Fantasy games that debut on new platforms end up being a success? Such as final fantasy VII for the ps1 and final fantasy X for the ps2. Maybe it's just a coincidence, maybe it's just the destiny of all final fantasy games that come out on a new console. :chocobo:

It's probably partly because these games are hyped as the "first FF game on system X". Of course everyone in the gaming business is curious about each new FF game, but because FF is quite reknown for it's good graphics, everyone is curious how a FF game on a more powerfull system will look.

They do well because they've got the Final Fantasy logo slapped on them. Anything Final Fantasy always sells by the millions, never mind whether its the first FF game on a console or not. In regards to VII and X, they're just overhyped and considered the be-all and end-all of FF games on that console by a large majority, just because they're the first and (in my opinion) for practically that reason alone.

Nearly all Final Fantasy games have turned out to be a major success (in terms of sales of course), not just FFVII and FFX.

It's not really a coincidence at all. As said before, each game ever since FFVII have been overly hyped (FFXIII's level of hype is a big example of that). Plus, the name Final Fantasy sells just as well as the game with Call Of Duty or FIFA.

Which was probably why SE slapped on the name "Final Fantasy XIV" to their new MMORPG previously named Rapture so it will sell.

What were the sale figures of Final Fantasy VII on release? I'm not arguing against the point I'm just curious how many copies were sold after the hype had kicked in. Final Fantasy X no one could argue against, it was a success, simple as that. Final Fantasy XIII however, I don't think it will do as well. Reviews aside you have to look at the standard already set for that console, the PS1 and PS2 didn't have a standard so FFVII and FFX set the standard themselves. With the PS3 you have to look at other titles, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank etc have all set a huge standard for Final Fantasy XIII to reach. Whether it will or not, who knows, only time will tell.

That's true, but FF games are not only some sort of standard, they are also system sellers. People will buy a console because they want to play the new Final Fantasy, so the first FF game for a new console has to be a big seller so more people will buy the console. I haven't bought a PS3 yet, but if FFXIII proves to be great, chances are much greater I will buy one.

I certainly agree with this, but I think the predecessor helped sell the next Final Fantasy title along the line. I don't know a whole lot on Final Fantasy VI so I don't know whether that would have helped the sales of Final Fantasy VII or not but with Final Fantasy X because VII, VIII and IX were seen as such great titles that essentially made FFX a must buy for a lot of people. The problem now would be both the PS2 Final Fantasy titles, FFX-2 and FFXII were generally seen as a disappointment by a majority so it may or may not have an affect on the sales of Final Fantasy XIII. Only time will tell I suppose...:hmmm:
