Just how exactly does a stone castle catch on fire? This has always bothered me and I just started playing VI again and I just completed that part of the game and it reminded me of it

Well it is magic so theres that. Other than that I really dont know, I mean didnt castles burn down in the medieval times? I really dont know if this should even be in this section. But either way, I would have to say it is because Im sure Kefka was using magic and he caught the castle on fire.

Castles were destroyed by cannon fire, not fire:monster:
I assume Kefka poured petrol on it. Also the castle doesn't catch fire really as it's used as a mode of transport.

Figaro Castle catching fire isn't too farfetched I think. I'm going with the idea that magic was somehow involved as well as a physical cannon balls hit the castle.

Also coupling with the fact that this was just a small thing in the grand scheme of the story, for an old game like FFVI, I'm sure not a whole lot of logic and science is considered in a game with a medieval-ish setting with magic xD

And anyways, before too much could be destroyed, the castle went under the sandy ground, so a the fire went out anyways :P

Didn't Kefka have magitech soldiers with him? Surely fire beams could've done some damage. Also, since the 'windows' and such were also ablaze, maybe internal fires had some effect on the stony foundations.

I agree with that, but there were parts where just the bricks were burning...and yes, I am looking too much into this

I'm pretty sure there were probably flammable objects throughout the castle, which spreads and sets the whole castle ablaze.

I mean, is house brick flammable? Yet houses burn down because the fire catches the objects around it and spreads through the house.
I'm assuming the same is true for Figaro, though I'll need to watch the sequence again to see what happened.
But even if objects weren't seen we'll have to assume they were there... Even if the objects were just people screaming on fire. :P

It could be anything from flammable gun powder left near cannons which has caught alight, to bits of carpet and cloth.

Myself I just let it slide because their means of extinguishing the fire are by retreating unground and I think that is a little more far fetched then burning stone. I just assume Kefka cast Meteor and it was a half /fail

Just remember the second word of the title "fantasy" don't forget that magic/magicite/magic statues dragons/gogo are also fictional. Don't let reality get in the way of a gud story. :)
