Are the items necessities in the game? Should I just keep them? I could use them upgrading my weapons but they only produce about 10 exp etc...
Recommend to drop them or keep them? Right now I have kept them....for now....

The items that are only worth 10EXP or thereabouts can cause your weapons to receive multipliers, meaning items receive more experience from other items. An example would be using ten of these items on your weapon, getting a 200% multiplier. Items will then increase your weapon/accessory's EXP by 3 times the amount they would originally.

Confusing I know. In short. Keep them and use them on your weapons. Unless they can be sold for a premium, they're of use.

Items can be used for:

Transformation
Upgrading
Selling
...Dropping

(note: I'm being broad.)

I've read some of the faqs about upgrading.I find them confusing and the advice confusing.
Of course there are youtube videos on how to use the ingredients as well.
I'm on chapt 7 and yet to upgrade anything.
Most people seem to advise waiting until chapt 11 to do upgrading although waiting makes the boss fights more difficult and time consuming..and you don't get much in the form of stars from those prolonged fights.

shrugs.

Ok, there are 4 types of components in the game - Organic, Non-Organic, Premium and Catalyst. Here is a tiny rundown of the Items.

Organic means anything that sounds like it comes from an animal, such as Fangs, Claws and Oozes. It's little icon is that of a pair of teeth. These add to your bonus multiplier and generally carry low experience.

Non-Organic means stuff like Spark Plugs, Reactors and anything that sound electrical. There little icon is a little screw. These Items take away from your bonus multiplier and generally carry large amounts of experience.

Premium means stuff like Credit and Incentive Chips dropped by PSICOM soldiers. These items can be sold for high prices and carry pretty much no experience.

Catalysts are special items that allow you to upgrade your weapon or accessory to it's next tier. For example:- Lightning's Blazefire Saber to Flameberge. These include Milerite, Uraninite and Trapezohedron.

So in short, use your organic items to attain your 3x multiplier, non-organic for massive exp. boost, Sell your premium items and use your catalysts to upgrade.

Hope this helped.
