Help FFXIII: What equipment should I be using?

I've just reached the Fifth Ark and I am kinda confused on what equipment would suite my party best at this stage in the game. Lightning's Gladius has been upgraded to Helter-skelter Lv. 19. Fang and Hope's Bladed Lance and Airwing have been upgraded to STAR status. I have yet to upgrade any accessories from fear of making a colossal mistake. I get the upgrading system, so my question is, which weapons and accessories should I be upgrading and for which character? Also, should I be selling all the other equipment that I'm not using? Should I save certain accessories for difficult points?​
 
If my theories are a bit correct when I done chapter 10 AKA Fifth Ark. I done some serious hardcore stuff.

For upgrading weapons if you had Lightning's Helter Skelter to level 19 I shall say upgrade it to one more level. Also, Edged Carbine is also a good weapon for her for using magic based enemies such as the bombs or what they are in one of the dungeons.

Hope's basic task is relying on magic and healing. So if you have Hawkeye kept from Chapter 4 or 5 if I remember, upgrade that to level 20. If you wanna get it to star or maxed that's fine as well cause it's one of the best weapons to use for Hope so far till the end.

Fang's Bladed Lance is fine at Level 20 nothing else. Her role what I used is Sentinel and Saboteur for mainly debuffing and provoking enemies.

As for accessories, I haven't upgraded them since I have never done them before. But some good accessories such as HP, Strength and magic defense does help the party out well. For selling them, I rather say sell some bangles such as Iron or silver bangles unless your group's using Tungsten bangles. Those sell that and components so that way you can always go to Creature Comforts and buy 80 gil of components to 99 to easily upgrade (if you have alot of gil that is).

I don't claim to know everything, but I have platinum the game, put in 100+ hours and got every single item/weapon to max stats.

For Lighting I would advise Lionheart if you're going to tier3. Ekinder if you're staying at tier 2.

Hope - Hawkeye
Van - Belladonna
Snow - Paladin
Sazh - Vega
Fang - Taming Pole (Best all around, it does have stagger lock, but that's a non issue if you using the other weapon I suggested for the other 5 characters.)
