Ok so I'm at the end, Orphan. Barthandelus was such a pushover, allot harder in his first two forms. My party that I am using is Fang, Sazh, and Hope. Fang, cause she has the most hp, thus the leader. Sazh, because I need a synergist. Hope, cause he's a badass medic. Here's my problem:
I do absolutely fine until he daze's me, or something like that. Foul liquid doesn't work, niether does holy water or anything else. Only thing that does is dispelga, which takes away 1 TP. But I want to save them incase I need an Eidolin. How do I get around this. Second problem. He usees this attach called Progential Wrath. This kills me every time. Even if Fang is acting as the sentinal and not the leader, he will go after my leader. This is the main thing stopping me from killing him. Any help would be awesome. Btw, Crystarium is level 9 Maxed.

Its been awhile since I've personally taken Orphan out...but in the final phase I remember nothing I threw at it would effect it. So, the trick is to charge up the gauge on Orphan to make it vulnerable to your hits. I remember you can't really use a lot of buffs on yourself because as soon as you do it casts that "Progential Wrath" that you've talked about.

What you really need to do is have haste on you all the time, otherwise you'll never be able to hold your attack charge bar. As soon as your synergist uses haste, you need to debuff that thing, and keep debuffing it while you have someone ravving and commando-ing to hold the charge. I believe you can poison Orphan. So have Fang debuff that thing, Sazh can haste the party...and as soon as he hastes switch him over to Rav or com and Light can do whatever Sazh doesn't to hold the charge. Debuffs were the key for me...and not to go overboard with my own buffs. Haste is the only one you really need.

Then when you charge up the gauge and it becomes vulnerable...beat the crap out of that evil dolly-faced thing. As soon as I got it vulnerable to my hits I could take it all the way out before it recovered again.

Good luck!

I used Lightning, Vanille and Hope (sounds pathetic, right?) but it actually turns out well every time. Hope can be a Synergist AND a medic, and all three can be medics, as well. Also, a valuable addition to the team, Vanille as a Saboteur, she is able to poison Orphan and he will fall in less than 7-5 minutes afterwards. (if you keep him poisoned throughout)

Lightning's big string of attacks skill on her Ravager role (forget what it's called, she always says things like "I'm no one's slave!" or "Find your own road to Hell!") is always good while Orphan is in stagger.

Every time he does his huge machine gun face attack, Instantly switch to MED MED MED, and then fully heal, and continue. I suggest constantly keeping all of Hope's synergist effects on your characters at all times, making sure none run out of charge the best you can, and have Lightning do most of the Ravager/Commando content throughout, while the others do most of the Synergist/Saboteur and Medic work, unless you need MED MED MED or COM RAV RAV or whatever you can do during an all-out offense when you have some free time.

I had all three of these characters just slightly over 9000 HP and took out Orphan in roughly six minutes.

I'd say go with Gabe's method. Lightning, Hope, and Vanille are ideal for taking out Orphan on your first playthrough. After you beat it though, you'll be able to level your characters to the point where you can use just about anybody and do fine.

Still, if you insist on using your current battle team, the simple answer would be to head back to Pulse and do some level grinding.

Thanks for all the help, I think I'm going to try Gabe's method. It sounds like it would really work. Oh and btw gabe, the machine gun face attack (Thanatosian Smile) is Barthandelus, lol. I Think having three medics would help me allot. Hope takes his time healing. While he does a good job of it, in retrospect I see that I could have had allot more time to attack. Thanks again.

Well Gabe's method worked pretty well until he killed me with that progential wrath thing, it always seeks out the leader. No matter what I do. Lightning is over 10000 hp. Orphan was poisened the whole time. I flayed him to within an inch (more like a milimeter) of his life, and I fucking died. I'm getting sick of it. Is there any way to avoid that attack?:rage:

There's no way to avoid it. I used Light, Fang and Hope, had Hope cast buffs/heal/ and Ravange, Fang was a good sab at debuffing him and also great when it comes to attacking. Light mainly attacked all the way through with com and rav roles. It's all about timing, You have to stagger it, debuff and beat the crap pout of it and win. It takes about 2-3 staggers to crush Orphan. Just keep at it and keep everyone semi buffed and orphan mostly debuffed and wail on him at any open time. After you get past this battle the tough part is over ^_^

Thanks for all the help. After much blood sweat and tears, Orphan finally has fallen. His second form caught me off guard a bit but not a problem. Cocoon has been saved and everyone lives happily ever after. Now on to the rest of the missions.

OH I got those two bosses confused! xD Oops. Instead replace 'Machine Gun Face Attack' with the 'Giant Sword Crush Attack': Instant MED MED MED afterwards.

[TL;DR] Version at the end of my post. :awesome:

EDIT: Nevermind, you didn't need the help anymore. :sad3:
----------------------------------------------

If I'm thinking of the right attack (giant I like to rape you sword crush - Merciless Judgment), it shouldn't kill you. I think it does about 90% (or some type of fractional damage) of your HP in damage though. It always left my leader and party with about 200 HP, and if you immediately switch to a role that has one or two medics you'd be solid.

To be perfectly honest, I cannot help you with the attack that is killing you because I never encountered it. Or I have, but don't recall the name. The only thing I can tell you is maybe you need to rethink your team strategy/how you deal with the battle. Every time he uses Merciless Judgment (the only true annoying attack I remember encountering) he switches forms (Consummate Light and Consummate Dark). Light form is relatively not bad, as he just slaps the shit out of you. Dark is the dangerous form, as he shoots lasers out the bumhole, and apparently they grow stronger the more HP he has or something.

The team I used to take the annoying little guy down was Fang, Lightning, and Hope, and had Hope as the Synergist or Medic (to use Haste; anything else Orphan just debuffs you, or totally wastes your time since his lasers in Consummate Dark also inflict debuffs), Fang as strict Commando and/or Saboteur (since having Deprotect, Deshell, and Imperil work, but it's better just to go on a full-on assault), and Lightning as strict Ravager, with Medic if needed.

Also, check your weaponry and accessories. I didn't really focus on upgrading accessories, but had all my character's Tier 2 weapons maxed, as well as having Rank 9 Crystarium maxed. Fang had the accessory that granted Tetra-Defense (Auto Protect, Shell, Bravery, and Faith), and Lightning had Auto Protect and Shell. That kind of helped with not needing to buff.

------------------------------------------------------

[tl;dr]: Check your weapons and make sure they're at a decent level, have some good accessories, and just try again. Orphan doesn't really have any insta-kill or high damaging attacks, if you're healing. I honestly don't remember anything that was dangerous, per say.
