As I explained above, this is not for comparing the games, but it's really asking for help

I am currently playing FF7 and I absolutely love it, to say the least. I have heard many good things about FF8 and also bad things, but the simplest thing I can ask is, would a fan of FF7 enjoy FF8? I know there are a lot of differences and also a lot of similarities too.

In comparison FFVIII is far more advanced but lacks the engrossing story and character o FFVII,if you play the game these statements become less and less apparent but as whole they are true IMO.

THE FOLLOWING CONTAINS MINOR SPOILERS, some anyway./\

So play it because it is a fantastic romp and the graphics are better and the combat more realistic.........I suppose, but the magic is not as powerful and it takes a lot of effort to make it powerful, Monsters are a good balance of powerful fell enemies like behemoths and the weaker regular monsters of FF tradition.

Weapons are gained differently but its unique a system and worth pursuing.

You can trust me Im the best:smartass:

Well, I have played VII first. After that VIII, it was great.
VIII is totally different then VII. Money/Gold is not gained by monsters. Equipment can't be purchased, only weapons can be upgraded. The battle system is a lot complicated in your first playthrough. Grinding doesn't pay off much. The game can be either hard or easy. One thing for sure is that graphics are a lot better. The story is a lot more complicated and has many twists. Characters are either good or bad, it depends what characteristics you like.
Anyway, don't listen too much what other people say about the game. YOU will play this game and (not) enjoy it in your own way. Everyone has a different taste for games.

Ya you really can't compare the two at all.. They are two totally different games.. FFVII is at the tip top of my favorites list where as FFVIII is near the bottom.. Now that doesn't mean that you can't like both because you sure the hell can but they just aren't similar enough to compare.. Thats not to say that there aren't recurring elements in ffviii because there are, but I'd say FFVI is a lot closer to FFVII than FFVIII is in terms of comparatbility..

I mean I guess you can kind of compare the timber crew to the avalanche in a weird way cuz they are both small resistance groups sticking up for what they believe is right, but other than that ffVIII really stands on its own.. THe whole school-military type theme is completly diffrent than what FF is used too, the junction/battle system is completly diffrent than any other final fantasy.. I think that's why this game gets so many mixed reviews, because its so totally out there as far as ff games go that people are either drawn in by its orginiality, or turned off because it's just too different for their tastes..

Your really just gonna have to play the game to see if you like it for yourself, because with this game espically it depends on the person whose playing it whether you like it or not..

I am not sure about FFVII fan liking FFVIII. But it works the other way round because I am an FFVIII fan who loves FFVII. Nevertheless, I think there are more FFVII fans loathing FFVIII than vice versa.

As a true final fantasy fan, I think it's only right to accept every single FF as they are. They are good in their own ways. FFVII and FFVIII are incomparable not because that one of them is better, but because they are too different but excellent in their own ways.

Instead of differences, let me give some similarities between the two games (major spoiler alert):

-Love between the characters, though it's much MUCH clearer in FFVIII than in VII.
-Game starts off in a large city/structure
-At certain point in the game, the characters attempt to save a large city/structure from a destructive force (like saving Midgar from meteor)
-A president was killed indirectly by the main villain (like President Shinra killed by Jenova in the form of Sephiroth)
-Someone is being controlled by the main villain (like Cloud being controlled by Sephiroth)
-A villain who works under cover, who only appears in the real form towards the end of the game.
-Some characters later find surprising facts about their past (like Cloud did)
-A character was discovered to have mysterious powers later on (like Aerith did)
-A woman plays a key role in helping the heroes saving the world (like Aerith did, too)
-After fighting the last boss, the main character discovers some form of surprising event (like Cloud did when he fought Sephiroth inside him)
-The final dungeon involves some form of splitting up
-There are vehicles that you can ride on.
-crystal doesn't play a major role in both games unless you count materia as crystal
-The ending before the credits give us a cliffhanger whether one particular character survived. The ending after the credits give us some sorts of clarification of whether he/she survived. (like in FFVII, RedXIII survived after 500 years)

Yes you can love it. Just don't expect 8 to be exactly like 7, its a different style of game.

First of all its a modern setting with technology; the characters are more customizable; and the plot is vastly different.

But I am a fan of 7 who loved 8, in fact I enjoyed 8 more after I replayed it recently.

When I was small and had just started getting into Final Fantasy games, I had played VIII before I played VII . But whether it was that order or vise versa, I still very much enjoyed them both - and didn't love VIII any less after I played VII . I will say the style and settings will be different, the battle system will pretty much be the same (except for a couple of additions in VIII), so I still found joy in playing them despite the differences .

Alright, as of now I own FF8.... I have only played it for a half hour or so so I can't give a full opinion yet. But I do think it is a good, deep game but with a VERY VERY steep learning curve... or maybe I am a noob at it, lol

I get what you guys were saying that you can't compare it to FF7, it is totally a different animal altogether in terms of gameplay. In terms of story however.....

Once you get use to "drawing" magic and properly learning about whch spells do what you'll be find and it'll get easier.

One thing i do like about FF8 is that the "ultimate weapon" for Squall isn't like the regular "ultimate weapons" like clouds in FF7.

the damage doesnt decrease the lower health you have. it's epic.

Oh yeah drawing magic is good but I hate how you have limits on how many times you can cast a certain spell as opposed to say FF7 where you can cast until your MP runs out.... you know what I mean.

I love Final Fantasy VII and VIII. They are both very excellent games, and even though Seven is my favourite, I still love Eight alot. They both have extremely good storylines, characters, music and villains. FF VIII can take a while to warm up and get good though, the beginning can be a little slow.

I would recommend playing to the second half of the 2nd CD before making a judgment on the game. Also would recommend looking up gamefaqs online or other final fantasy friends to teach or show you how to use the junction system, since it can be a little hard to understand sometimes, and if you can understand it really well your characters can become powerhouses in battle, even kind of early in the game.
