Something always bothered me about the FF genre.

Final Fantasy 7 Tifa. Sizzling hotot. Very attractive. Warm my cold winter nights, please!

Final Fantasy 8 Rinoa. Deja vu. Its Tifa from the previous game. No they're giving her smaller b00bs, different clothes and calling her Rinoa. Ok, I can dig it.

Final Fantasy 9 Dagger. A younger chibified version of Rinoa / Tifa. The repetitiveness is becoming ridiculous.

Final Fantasy 10 Yuna Its Rinoa/Tifa/Dagger with brown hair and different color eyes to fool me into thinking its a different character. I am not hoodwinked so easily dear chaps!

This is why I quit playing after Final Fantasy X.

Am I being shallow?

Tell me the truth! ^^!
 
I don't really think you're being shallow. I've noticed it myself in regards to a few other characters looking very similar in terms of their overall design. I can't be certain, but it really does seem like the design team try to milk the success of earlier titles by copying and pasting certain traits of popular characters.

It's not gamebreaking for me, but I do tire of seeing so many blonde male leads in the series!
 
Well I'd say that only Tifa and Rinoa seem to have similarities. Going as far to say that Garnet looks like a chibi version is just thinking too hard. Same with Yuna. She looks completely different. It's not recycled if you change the hair color :P Not to mention each character has their own background and personality that you can love or hate.
 
It seems like this is a character theme for FF games. Your males typically have blonde or bright colored hair. And commonly for the strong or lead female characters, the hair color is brown. Perhaps it means something or perhaps it is just a coincidence.

But I don't think there's anything shallow about it. They are just observations.
 
I'll have to agree with Tifa, Rinoa and Garnet, but Yuna is way different, different hair, eyes, outfit and body structure (I think).
 
You know I did notice that Tifa and Rinoa are both alike but Garnet klooks similar to Kairi if anything. Tifa is more athletic and more "developed" than most of them, not to mention older.

I think you are right. They all play on more idealistic stereotypes I think. I think Vaan could have easily had a different hair colour just to make it a little different.
 
Even Rinoa has similar clothes to Tifa's AC outfit. But anywhos...

Tifa and Rinoa are definitely very similar. Garnet is also, with the skinny pale lips, hair, and eyes.

However Yuna is very different. The faces are nothing alike, they have different hair, eyes, and face shape.

Not to mention all of their personalities are completely different.
 
Look at Tifa from the original game though, she has beautiful red eyes that Rinoa doesn't have, and her hair is dolphin shaped. Nothing Rinoa like about her appearance at all, expect that they both have black hair.

It's only in Advent Children that Tifa starts to look like Rinoa, but Advent Children is a huge FF8 take over/ rip off anyway, even the ending to FF8 and AC are the same. The main hero finally smiles and he realizes that he's not alone anymore. -__-

Rinoa's hair is black, but is more realistic than Tifa's and has less layers. Rinoa also has small black eyes, while Tifa has wide and deep red eyes. Also both of their faces look nothing alike. :dave:

Dagger's hair has a bit more of a brunette shade to it, and she looks more like Rinoa, but she looks nothing like Tifa. Not even close. Also Yuna looks nothing like them.

Also why just these girls just because they all have black hair ? What about Aerith, Cissinei, Celes, Terra, Rydia, Rikku, and Fairs ? They look nothing like Rinoa and Tifa. Plus Final Fantasy is made by a Japanese company, so of course a lot of characters are going to have black shaded hair, because it's apart of their appearances.

I've always had a problem with the Tifa-Rinoa-Garnet lookalike issue. To me they really do all look the same. Hell, Garnet even has her hair tied at the bottom like Tifa's. Tifa's AC outfit is a black version of Rinoa's.
But then again consider IV, V and VI...Amano's heroines were all thin, blue-eyed, with wavy or long, straight blonde hair (though Lenna, Terra and Faris have different hair in their sprites, their Amano artwork all depict them with pale blonde hair). Then Nomura came in and brought in the brunette, dark-eyed heroines. Aerith is the sore thumb, though I'd say she is most similar in looks to Rosa from FFIV, just a brunette version.
 
I am not sure about Yuna, for one thing she fits the description of the lookalike but in some ways Yuna is different. Yuna's heterochroma being the most obvious aspect of her design which I didn't notice until recently.
