My question for you guys is what are your favorite playable opening sequences? Mine are:

FFIV. The airships flying into Baron with the Red Wings' theme playing does it for me. Even in 16 bits the horns from that song gives me goosebumps. The scene proceeds with Cecil flashing back to their raid on Mysidia. I just love it.

VII. More action as you're in the middle of your mission with AVALANCHE. I love it, too.

X. What other game begins with the destruction of a city in the middle of a sporting event? Sucks for them, but it was great for me!

If you can extend the "Opening sequences" to the First Half an hour or so, then IX. Starting off with Vivi walking around in alexandria, (With the great music) and progressing to the Tantalus play and actually taking part in the play as zidane and crew was tons of fun.

On the inverse, the weakest was probably VIII. You get started with a jaw-dropping FMV, and then when the game starts you're in an infirmary.

I'd have to go with FFX, although I haven't played the other ones recently so their "epicness" won't be fresh in my mind. The FMV was crazy good and I liked the song that played with it!

I have to go with FFX, it throws you right in the deep end, as you're fighting around this sin attack on the city of Zanarkand. So while it's pretty much a tutorial, it doesn't feel as laborious as most of them. It's the most impressive too, story-line wise, as it's not just a "And now I'll show you how to defeat the fiends before we do this!" sorta thing.

I think I'm gonna be unpopular here and say FFVIII. I loved the way that you start off nice and slow, and I quite like the idea that you're at a school. You find out that the guy who hacked your face open is called Seifer, but you know nothing about him. You start of with two GFs to play with, and your first job is to find another.

Within the first hour or so of gameplay, you're guided quite nicely into the SeeD mission, you've met a handful of characters, you can play cards, and you can have a fair bit of freedom with respect to your GFs.

I like the "slow" start that FFVIII has. When I first played FFVII, I just wanted to explore at the beginning really. FFX's opening was great, but as a first time player, it asks too many questions and leaves them unanswered.

VIII when you control squall walking around garden at the beginning. it was nice to be able to go everywhere accessible at the time to learn everything for later reference

The ones that stand out are IV, VII and X for me

I liek a good action packed start how it just throws you right in in the middle of action, it really sets the pace and it gets me into it straight away
For the LIFE of me I can't rememeber how IX starts, so it can't have been TAHT exciting

I always remember the start of VIII being rather lame, I was like erewut, Im lying in a bed....how....exciting xD

But yeah, I love the action packed starts so overall, I think Im going with VII & X

Being thrown in at the deep end FTW

VII was great for getting into the action very quickly, but I actually love the opening of IX (and I haven't played the rest of it yet!) - the way that you meet the main characters individually and get to control them and the way they converge under the unlikeliest of circumstances. It's also interesting that you fight against Steiner in one part, so the battles were very much vehicles for the story as well. But X's opening is also very, very good.

Good Topic

I say VI was cool cause you were in these great suits that could do damage. The way they quickly throw the story at you was what got me into it. You don't know what the machine suits are, you don't know why the crown is on Terra's head, and you have no idea what an esper is.

My over-all favorite is FF7. It was action packed and very easy to learn.
