Favorite and Least Favorite Voices?

Well I did it for FFX. Might as well do it for the game with better voice-acting.

1a.Of the main cast, who had your favorite voice?
1b. Least favorite of the main cast?

2a. Of the side characters and antagonists, who had your favorite voice?
2b. Least favorite?
 
I can't remember if this is in the 'Favorites and Worsts' list for XII, but I'll do it anyway. (If it is......then this is a rebellion!) :gasp:

Favorite Main Cast: Tough one, I'd say it's a tie for Basch and Balthier. If I was forced to choose one I'd probably go with Basch because Balthiers' voice can be a little strained with the accent sometimes. They're both still my favorites (in the whole game).

Least Favorite: Vaan. It's like an upgraded Tidus from X, but still lacking in my opinion. He sounds a little stuffy when he says 'Penelo' which he says a lot of in the game. Fran is a second on this list, but her hotness saves her (he voice can be a little irrating in the longer cutscenes).

Favorite Side Character: Probably Marquis Ondore, I love his narration during the game, as well as when he is talking with the other characters.

Least Favorite: Migello. Or any Banga. Ugh, that scratchy voice can burn in hell.

I lumped Vayne and Larsa and others (basically any guest or boss fight) into the main category, and kept side characters as people who never are fought/controlled by the player.

Favorite Voices

  • Fran; I dont know whether it is her bunny ears that give it away for me, or the fact that her voice is slightly familiar to Vanille's, but either way I was just memorized by her voice. It was not only the way she sounded, but the way her voice was executed, and it fit her whole persona really well. To say the least, she probably had the best voice in the entire game, well with the exception of Vayne; he was just so awesome :3. And for a side-note, Fran's voice actor is just brilliant; plain and simple.


  • Penelo; To put simply, her voice was so peaceful, it was a pleasure to hear her speak. Everytime a line would come Penelo's way, i would get excited, just because her voice was so innocent, and gentle, it actually reminded me of Yuna in FFX. Though there were times where her voice would be somewhat annoying, that was only when the situation or cutscene of the game wasn't fitting. But nevertheless, her voice was a joy to hear.

Worst Voices


  • Ashe; I think everyone would agree that her voice, and among others, were the worst of many. There was no emotion, and no soul put into her voice, and therefore it's marked, at least to me, as one of the worst voices in all of FFXII. But that is not the only reason why I deem it one of my picks of worst voice; her voice didn't fit her character. Her tone was too rough, but her character was soft as room-temperature butter(lol). And her persona, don't get me started on that; it was complete failr, plain and simple.

  • Larsa; Though his character was pretty awesome, the voice really didn't fit him--like at all. Though Larsa was indeed a boy, his voice sounded like a Tranvestite, or hell a muscle woman. I really couldn't tell Larsa apart by gender; that is how horrible his voice was. Sure probably not the best example, but it's true. Larsa had the voice of a borderline tranny, but the body of a young man. It wasn't really all that amusing. His voice, and least of all, the character of Larsa was pretty annoying, and I didn't enjoy it all that much.
 
Favourite main VA : Balthier. He sounds aloof and sexy. Second place goes to Fran due to her exotic accent and vocal delivery.
Least favourite main VA : Vaan. Too nasal and doesn't sound pleasant at all (unlike Balthier). Basch is trailing behind Vaan. Basch sounds too stoic and shows very little emotion through his intonation.

Favourite 'supporting' VA : Gabranth. Perhaps it's the muffled voice that adds menace to the delivery. I find Gabranth's voice acting to be believable and often conveys much of his anger.
Least favourite 'supporting' VA : Can't say. Maybe Larsa. The voice is too feminine, or too undeveloped. He's a video game Bieber.

Fran i'd say, but I rather liked Balthier's too, I don't know what it is.
I think the slight... I don't know, I just like Fran's voice, it's somewhat... soothing. It fits her well, definitley.
Balthier's accent is just ace, I love it. xD

Vaan i'd say, it doesn't annoy me or anything but of the six he's my least favourite voice wise.

Vayne, I love Vayne's voice. I think it's that esscence of superiority he brings to it that gives it a certain flair.

I'm not too sure on this one, none of them were really that bad for me.
 
Favorite main character voice: Balthier :awesome: I loved the accent and how eloquent he was for a pirate, it made him exceptionally dashing.

Least favorite main character voice: Ashe :mokken: Her whole personality was a complete flatliner and her voice did nothing to contest this. Though I really liked Fran and thought the sound of her voice was fine, I'm also not really sure if I cared for the way she measured her words :hmmm: There was something interesting and exotic about it, which is great for originality purposes, but sometimes it also sounded like they were trying a little too hard to make her speak in an unusual way.

Favorite non-main voice actor(s): Al-Cid Margrace and Reddas :lew: Al-Cid because he reminded me somewhat of Puss in Boots from Shrek, not only because he sounded somewhat like him to me but also his attitude of trying to be a little overly dashing ^_^ I found him very amusing and the voice topped it off perfectly. And Reddas because he had a very strong, noble yet almost gruff voice, and I thought it really matched his character well. He was probably my favorite non-main character,
even though he was in the party for a bit

Least favorite non-main voice actor: any of the Bangaas :gonk: I found them somewhat creepy and annoying, I really wasn't particularly fond of their voices and that was actually one of the worst things about them for me.
 
I love Ashe's voice.. Name somebody who made a sexier moaning noise I dare you... Loved baltheirs too..

I didn't like Migelous.. or that guy from rozzaria.. THey both needed translators to understand what they were saying..
 
1a (Favorite). Balthier. It fits with his age as well as his clever ego. Whenever he speaks out giving advice or to warn someone about something, it would be a voice that everyone could head. Plus, he's the leading man - so, it'd be pitiful if anyone didn't.

2a (Least Favorite ). Ashe. Something about her voice just seems too wise and innocent for me (moreso for Penelo.), and she used to be the queen of her nation, so she should have a voice fit for a queen. I don't think her current one makes the cut.

1b (Favorite) . Vayne. Seeing as he's the main villian, yet doesn't look too threatening at first, I would expect his voice to be a little of trustworthy and suspecting at the same time - evening out his average-looking but not-so-average villian title.

2b (Least Favorite) . Ba'Gamnan - Even if he isn't a hume, his voice is just too scratchy and irritating for me to come into terms with. He sounds like an ant on steroids (use your imagination) that really needs to clear his throat.

3. Ashe. Yes. I like Ashe's voice.
4. Penelo and Basch.

Worst:

1. Vaan. I hate his voice.
