Does anyone here use them?

I only recently bought my first 2TB hard drive to back up all my computer files such as photos, music etc in the event my computer dies one day.

It happened to my old computer. It just didn't turn back on one day after a period of it constantly playing up. :hmmm:

I've decided to buy two hard drives and back up both with the same info just in case something happens to one of them.

Then I intend to give my computer a good clean and get rid of any crap programs etc clogging up space and making my computer run slow.

Anyone else do this or just not really care?

My brother and his wife are so lucky.

They recently got broken into and had their Ipad, laptop, a hard drive etc stolen, but luckily they didn't steal the one hard drive that had EVERYTHING backed up from all of those devices. It had all their honeymoon photos on it that only they had, so it's not like they could even ask a family member to give them another copy. >.<

We have two external harddrives. A 500gb and a 1TB. Neither is close to being full yet and we have a lot of stuff on them. Having experienced computer failure and loss of data, I think it's important to keep your files backed up just in case.

Yeah, I back up my stuff usually about once a month. I use a 2TB HDD for the main backup, but usually back up things important to me to multiple drives in some fashion.

Not much of a fan of backing up to the cloud, so I can't say I really ever use it for that. A EULA I saw stated that your files become their property if the company wants (excluding the items with copyright ofc), and that kind of turned me off. That might be unfair of me, but I'm alright with my physical backups usually. :)

I have a 1 TB hard drive I use that has a backup of my main hard drive (or did, I'm not sure what's on it now). I also have a 2TB of the same kind that holds all my miscellaneous downloads that I don't want taking up space on my main drive. It's about 3/4 full :wacky:... I need to clean it up (and maybe invest in a new/bigger drive).

I have an external HDD as well, and it's out of space, so I'm due for a new one. Externals are nothing but regular HDDs hooked up to an IDE or SATA adapter and just placed outside of the PC and then plugged into an AC adapter, atleast from looking at the one I have. You can like.. unplug the thing and slap it into your PC if you want. I believe because they are external, they are not subject to being screwed up if the mobo decides to die, possibly taking any physically connected drives with it. I could be wrong though. And it's really good for when you have a tower that is lacking drive bays for when you need a new HDD.

Cloud based backups? No thanks. For itunes yeah this is a good idea, but anything else, no, stick to whats traditional.
