With my recent playthrough with this game i decided to take an aspect from Final Fantasy 13 and put it into my game. I give my characters only ONE esper each, even though espers can be pretty useless, and i use them dependant on my characters roles...
EG Penelo is a white mage so i gave her ultima

I was wondering if you decided to one day play the game with this in mind, what esper would you choose for each character and their roles, and why?

:)

Weeeeell, despite my attempts at making roles often failing, I'd go something like this.

Vaan is my White/Green Mage, without Holy, and would get Shemhazzi, or however the heck you spell her name, just because the offence with the healing would clash remarkably well and make for a decent combo.

Balthier is my Red Mage with black and white magic up to the ra levels, and would get Chaos to complement that variety both of em have.

Fran is my Black Mage, and gets Zodiark, to compliment the darkness. Not to mention they look awesome standing together. :monocle:

Basch is my Paladin, with high strength and white magic including Holy, and so the obvious choice is Ultima, to complement the light of both classes.

Ashe is my Arcane Mage, and so gets Cuchullain or however you spell it. Some say Zodiark would suit better, but I personally think Cuchullain has that darker edge.

And lastly, Penelo, my Time Mage, gets Zeromus, because Time and Death kind of go hand in hand, so I think they'd work together. Though maybe that's just me. :wacky:

And there you have it. :monocle:

Instead of going with what role my character was, I oddly enough gave them that Esper that best matched their mist quickenings. I'm evening out the espers however, or at least trying to. I haven't played XII in a while though but I do know that Vaan has Balias since his attacks were fire based, sort of. And I remember I gave Fran Mateus since some of her attacks, or mainly just her most powerful one is Ice related.

It's a bit off since most of the espers don't really match all of a characters quickening or maybe it just matches one. I never thought about doing it by role however, maybe next play around I'll put that into consideration and give it a shot.

I give Baltheir the Adremmalech one, because both of them are my favorite among the characters/espers, respectively.

I always give the fat one to Penelo, because they are my least favorite among the espers and characters, respectively. :wacky:

Basch totally got the Condemner (forgot the epsers' name... lol) because well, both are all about LOYALTY and HONOR and JUSTICE and so on.... kind of my joke about the character and all. :P

The rest of the espers I just portion out to the characters in order as I get them. :\ Not very inspiring of me, but there you have it!

each char would get 2 espers then. i'm too lazy to figure all of it out, but Zodiark and the Gigas would go to Ashe. Gigas for the relevance, Zodiark because...he's Zodiark.

I usually only play with the three characters that are my favorites, which are Fran, Asche and Balthieir repectively. I do level them all up equally, its just in fights when not leveling up, I only use those three. I also do not like using espers, due to the fact that the three of them can do the job just fine without them. But, it is as follows

Fran - Ultima
Ashe- Zalera
Balthier - Mateus
Penelo - Hashmal
Basch - Shemhazi
Vaan - Chaos

the espers arent tough when it comes to battles , they are just like pets thats follow you arround , but they will come handly when u are fighting with one character in ur party and wants to level him up fast

i like to at a high level just use ashe to kill stuff an wonder the world, so i use epers in single battles they seem more helpful this way

I gave them all to my magic user, which was also my primary character, Ashe. She was my long-ranger/magic user. I took control of her mostly to overwatch the other two and provide support. Vaan was the speed demon, and Basch was the tank.
This seemed to be the most proficient way to go.
Espers were more a collection than anything. I enjoyed the challenge of rooting them out and fighting them. I was real quick to give everyone their quickenings, however, so I could actually take advantage of all the MP consuming support spells.
Espers are very useful at first though. I'm not sure why they take such a beating in battles though. I mean.. they're practically gods... which is why you should give them to a magic user so they heal them lol
