PC Dying platform?

Now, as much as I do enjoy playing xbox or playstation at friends' houses, I can't help but feel as though they are completely pointless consoles...

Now, the reason I believe that playstation and xbox are completely pointless gimmicks (so I guess there IS a point, $$$), is that to my knowledge every game available to play on Xbox, playstation, whatever console, is originally made on the computer (or at least most of them), which means that every game (even the xbox or playstation exclusive ones) could simply just be released for PC, and everyone could at this point be used to gaming on the PC. So basically, the xbox and playstation were created simply so that gamers can spend their money buying a new xbox (im just gonna say xbox from hereon out) and $70 games for it, as opposed to just upgrade their PC.

Questions (Have to read in order to reply properly)
So firstly, my question is, who here agrees that while non PC consoles are maybe useful for those without computer experience, and also fun to play, they are overall unnecessary (I like to think of them as appendages torn from the computer and sold at an inconvenient price)

Next part, is that when playing with my friends on their consoles, we often discuss the difference between Xbox and PS3 (don't worry, that's not what this is about). During these discussions, it almost always occurs that the topic of PC gaming slips it's way in (usually caused by me), and what I usually end up having to hear is that "Well yeah, it's sick that you play your games on a system which allows you to play games AND go online easily, watch videos, etc... (not that xbox and ps3 don't let you these days, but not as efficiently), but the PC Community is dying, compared to the way that Xbox and PS3 are thriving"

I wouldn't say that the 360 and PS3 are pointless. The PS3 itself is basically a media station, as it can be a stand alone blue ray player, and it has the connection to the internet itself. The 360 has a great Live system imo, allowing gamers to mark their achievement and what not.

Spending 70 or so dollars on a game is fine, considering ever so often (couple of years) you should upgrade your computer's video card and/or ram to be able to keep up with the ever progressing technology in PC gaming. I do agree that PC's will always be better graphically than consoles, since they are much more upgradeable.

Speaking from a ps2 reference, as I don't have a PS3 or 360 (I'll never own a 360, PS fanboy here), but games are rarely released for the PC first, if ever. Now the next gen consoles are sharing more and more titles with the PC, but that's mainly for the fans that only want to stick to one gaming platform. It's more of a mass money market than it is exclusivity of the games.

I also don't think the consoles are ideas that were ripped away from PC's, but that they provide other options for people who don't want to constantly upgrade their computer. I also don't think PC gaming is dieing. Games like the new Star Wars MMO and Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2. Granted, those are all MMO's and Strategy games, but they have their shooters and racers as well.

I used to play World of Warcraft all the time, and still play Stracraft and Diablo 2 a lot. PC gaming isn't dead at all, people will always have their favorites.

sorry my response couldn't be bigger. I'm on my PS3 XD

Consoles are uniform versions of computers, though. There are emus and other distinguished ways to play the Wii on a PC, but not having the console itself strips the intrigue of playing it, at least to a certain extent. If you've seen how the Wii is done on a computer, you'd see what I'm saying.

As for emus, they essentially can only spread as fast as it's console. And even then, they are not fully up to par until that console is out of the market. They are the best way to go money-wise, but next-gen emus certainly have enough glitches for certain games/compatibility to make you wish you had the real thing.

You have a very valid point here. However, depending on how you set up the emu, you can play it just as well. My neighbor has his computer hooked up to his big screen television. He plays the Wii emulator exactly as if he was playing the Wii.

He can buy, or pirate, all the new games, and play them all with not difficulties. The most he's ever had to do, was config it once.

The Wii emulator went a long way in a very short amount of time.

When it comes to Xbox-360 and PS3, I don't even think an Emu is being worked on. However, a lot of the games that most want to play on the Xbox, are usually made on the PC as well. (Oblivion, Mass Effect, Call of Duty, Blazblue)

So, the choice of games may not be the same, the overall performance will be better. Only, of course, if you can set your computer up to be that way. Unfortunately, a lot of people can't manage their way around a computer very well, and have no idea what their computers are capable of.

It is true that PC games crash, lag, etc. However, with 5 minutes, and Google 99.9%, if not all, problems their having can be fixed.

I can also go on to state that when it comes to Xbox, PC, and PS3 games, patches for consoles are always limited. PC usually gets more patches, and even when those stop, you get community made patches and even expansion packs.

In the case of Oblivion, the console version has loads of bugs, as well as the PC version. However, with the PC version, one dedicated fan made 3 patches (one for the game, and one for each expansion) and fixed a majority of the bugs himself, and released it to the general public.

You simply can't get this kind of thing on a console. It's impossible.
