Blue Mage
*Manus slowly regained consciousness, his head pounding, beating, swimming. He could not recall where he was or how he had gotten there. Indeed he could not even make out the room he was in. His eyes would not stay focused and he viewed the world with blurred vision.
He heard yells of panic, and felt the floor cringe and shake beneath him. As the sounds and thoughts in his head slowed, he began to try and establish what was going on. Before his head had cleared completely he heard a woman's voice deep within his mind:
"Manus, I love you..."
He did not know who's voice carried the message. It was the voice of a younger woman, but that was all that Manus could discern.
Manus tried to lift his head from the floor, but found his strength lacking. His mind finally cleared he began to take inventory of the events that surrounded him.
He noticed the wounded dragon, and Julius standing in front of Shen as though he was trying to guard her.*
:What's happening? Damn this magic. I will control you one day... you will not control me forever!:
*Manus attempted once more to lift his head from the ground. This time he was able to lift it off an inch or two, but his muscles failed almost immediately. He slowly moved his arm, attempting to reach into his robes. He grabbed a vial and pulled it out, lifting it towards his face. He used his lost ounce of real strength and pulled the cork from the vial and dumped the contents in his mouth, swallowing it all.*
:I hope the potion will have time to take effect before that dragon...:
*He forced the thought from his head.*
:I will not perish on this night:
*Manus spoke once more in the voice of magic, though it did not come through as powerfully as it had before. In fact, it came out as little more than a whisper fore it was a word of healing, and thankfully the magi who had created the spell knew enough to realize that one who might need to invoke a spell of healing may not have the strength to speak the work with their true magical self.*
'Iasthai!'
*Manus felt the potion suddenly coursing through his entire body. Indeed the potion would have worked without a spell of healing, but that would have taken time, and time did not appear to be a luxury that Manus, nor his companions seemed to carry with them at this moment.
Although it would still take a few hours before Manus would be returned to normal again, he had enough strength to stand at this point. However, he considered the situation at hand and thought it best that he not reveal his newfound strength or abilities. After all, there is very little an apprentice mage could do against a dragon, even a small one. Dragons are well known to hold the secrets of old magic, and old magic is well known to be the most powerful magic in existence, even if it was crude.
Manus was glad that no one had noticed his movement, and also that his cloak still maintained the ability to hide his face. This meant that he could be watchful of the battle, and yet not be seen awake. This way he could lend aid to his companions if he was able, but did not risk endangering himself meaninglessly.*
:Surely there must be something I can do to help...? Damn this frail body... damn my limitations! I cannot risk distracting them with no way to aid them. I suppose I have no choice but to lie here helpless.:
