Dragonball Evolution

Lol, yeap makes me lark this. They have messed the characters and timeline up. Just makes no sense at all.

New pics of Piccolo in this link,

I don't think a movie has made me this sad in a long time. What the hell? He isn't green, he doesn't have the antina(sp) on his head and he reminds me of a vulcan from Star Treck.

Those links wouldn't work for me, so I'll post up the picture I saw a couple of days ago... Lord "Piccolo"... Ermm...

piccolo2.jpg

Looks more like a Buffy / Blade vampire than a Namek. He isn't green, he doesn't have antenae and he doesn't have the musclely stretchy muscles up his arm (well, I guess you won't see them when he's dressed like that, but he shouldn't even be dressed like that!!!).

Yeah, I thought it was wrong when Krillin wasn't to be in the movie. I also thought it was wrong when Bulma wasn't to have blue hair. I also thought it was wrong when they've set it all in high school.. But this? THIS is terrible! It's almost like they have no confidence in the movie themselves, and don't expect to do a sequal, coz there is no way that they can go as far in the series to discover that Piccolo is a Namek, unless they want to redesign the entire race!

Hmm... Will Kame even be in the this movie? I haven't heard anything about Kame being in it, but it will seem silly not for him to be, I would have thought. I haven't seen the original Dragonball but I know the story involving Piccolo, the split from Kame, forming the evil Piccolo, the reincarnation etc etc.

I mean people could argue in their defence that they are just putting their interpretation on the manga. But I'm pretty sure that Piccolo looks the same in the manga as he did in the anime, it's not like it's a novel which is open to interpretation as far as character design goes...

Each time I hear news about this movie, I die a little on the inside. It's just going to suck. It's not a Dragonball movie at all, it's just took the names of the characters, and put Dragonball in the title, and they expect fans to just buy it up.

It's pathetic.

i heard about this a while ago, the cast was ment to be very good at first, bnut i guess a chance for the worse sometimes happnes, hopefully they make up for it in the film itself but being that its live action i wouldnt guess so

I honestly can't believe how utterly shit this looks. Hopefully it ends up being alright but I sincerely doubt it. I mean it's gotten to the point where it looks like they are trying to make it shit.

"18 years old, Goku is considered uncool and unpopular at school, but he is in fact an extremely talented martial arts fighter who gets rigorous training from his grandfather."
Oh man, the story is crap. The main heroes are ALWAYS young and unpopular. Then other people notice that he's talented and so on.
Also, the DB world is WAY different to our Earth, even though they still call it Earth in the anime.
I'm going to really hate Goku in this movie -__- Why, why?!

I'd love to see Justin Chatwin in a Super Sayian 4 though :wacky:

Indeed, I thought it was a joke when i heard this. But im glad others are disgusted as Iam. Im refusing to see it as its going to be pure and utter shite.

I'm not going to bother either, it's just going to ruin my nerves.

Hope they don't make Yu-gi-oh into a movie.

Personally I see it completely opposite of that. The cast is great, with a lot of good actors. But it is the screenplay that is making it horrible and setting them up to fail no matter how well the special effects are or how great they act.

Well Dragonball will likely fail in a live action movie anyway. It'll be hard to capture the humour, craziness but awesome energy felt in that universe on screen, and set in high school!
Special effects... I dunno if they'll make them good enough, even if the dragonballs look ok in the pictures. After all they've cheaped out on Piccolo...

*shrugs* I'll still go and see this. Yeah, it looks a bit retarded, but how much moreso would it be if everything was 100% accurate? This is one of the cases where accuracy doesn't necessarily make it better. However, my biggest complaint is the change of storyline... They should've kept the original and just Up'd Goku's age so it wasn't too ludicrous when he beat the crap out of someone.

Picolo looks pretty good to me... You expect a Namek to NOT look fake and cheesy IRL? In my opinion, he looks like an evil, yellow Kami, which is what Lord Picolo is, besides the yellow part... As for how cheesy the movie looks... Have you watched ANY Hong Kong Style action flicks? THEY ALL LOOK CHEESY!

Not to mention the director actually made a good choice in choosing that style, as that was the main inspiration of the Dragonball series to begin with... He just could've made other choices better.

It's the change in storyline that's the most annoying, I think. They should have kept Goku as a young child. One of the funniest things about the original Dragonball manga/anime was that Goku was naive and Bulma wasn't D=

So, if Goku's the unpopular high school kid, does that make Bulma the popular one? Urgh. And the relationship between Goku and Chi-Chi will be totally different too D=

I think accuracy would've been very important for this movie. What is their core audience for this movie? Children and DBZ fans. But now they've pretty much took a big crap on all the DBZ fans by changing it all around. If they had made it accurate, it would've attracted a bigger audience, somewhat like how LOTR was accurate and the fans of it loved it for being that way. Not comparing it to LOTR, just saying that they should've followed the source materal like they did.

So now with the DBZ fans upset about it and not wanting to watch, what kind of audiance will they be attracting? Surely not mid-aged adults that haven't seen it before.

As far as I can tell, the special effects aren't to great. Even the posters were poorly done. I was just saying, that even IF they did great with all that stuff, it was bound to fail because of how they ruined the screen play.

I know all of this. I am a DB/DBZ fan as well. My point is, Would you want to see some guy playing Vegeta in an extremely accurate costume a cosplayer would wear, incuding a three-foot tall plastic mop of hair? What I'm saying is, accuracy in appearance isn't too important, as it would've made the movie look worse. As for accuracy of storyline, I've already stated that I'm displeased about that, as they could've just up'd Goku's age in the original story and it'd be fine.

Yeah... Because it's being produced like a Hong Kong Style action flick. These types of movies get little money and end up sending most of it to special effects. And in the end, they always look silly. Besides, how well do you think people can do kamehameha waves and have it look realistic? Hardly any. My point is, you want a live-action DB/DBZ movie? Get over how silly it looks and just focus on the story. It's obviously not going to look any better.

I never once said I was focusing on the looks. Pretty much every comment I said was about the story.

This is what annoys me with movies these days. What is wrong with being a little silly? Why does everything always have to look serious and realistic?

Really to keep the integrity of the manga/anime this film will need to be crazy. That is Dragonball. Dragonball likes crazy. Dragonball is crazy. Dragonball = Crazy! To take all of that away? It's just a bunch of High school kids fighting a demon.

I'd be glad if they're doing it in a epic kung fu style as really if it wasn't, it would be even worse!

But seriously, even if they were looking for a different look for Piccolo, why did they go for such an unoriginal look? I have seen that look in Blade, vampire movies, and all sorts. It's just a standard vampire/demon/nasty man look. They could have at least attempted to make it look alien like, even if it was not known that he and Kame were Nameks at this time, it still doesn't undermine the fact that they were.

The Dragonball world is NOT realistic. The characters are not realisitic. The moves are not something they teach kids in kung-fu classes in our world! So, why, why, why might they try to make this realisitc and believable? Dragonball just doesn't work like that.

Because they're probably trying to make the series appeal to people who have never seen it... Personally, I think it's a valiant effort, though it could be done better... They could've chose a different anime for such an attempt as well and kept the story intact.

For example, a live-action version of Full Metal Alchemist would work, were it presented in the style of an Indiana Jones-esque adventure.

What I'm saying is, you want a live-action movie, this is apparently all you can get from DB, presented in this mindset.

I be honest, I like their idea of making the series seem a bit less far-fetched, but they could have done it in better ways without changing too much story. I also like the concept of extending appreciation of anime to a wider audience, as I live in America where apparently every anime, no matter how mature and bloody, supposedly equals poke'mon and thus, anyone who watches/reads it should be ridiculed.

Dragonball has a massive fanbase though. Theres loads of Dragonball fans. Even people who have only seen Dragonball Z (like me at the moment) will probably love them to do this Dragonball movie right.

They can appeal to another audience but that audience will not be the franchises fans.

I admit it's a hard thing to pull off in live action. But I do think that simple concepts such as "make Piccolo green" should be lived by. And the moves also, they should put the energy moves in it as well, as that is what makes Dragonball. If the movie can't pull it off then it's failed at its task as far as I'm concerned. It hasn't presented Dragonball to a new audience. It has given them a kung-fu film with characters named after Dragonball characters fighting a demon, also named after a Dragonball character!

The craziness wouldn't have to be over the top. Obviously most of the crazy stuff they won't do, but they should keep an element of it. And they may, we don't know. But gah, it'll never live up to the manga/anime or at least it won't have the same feel, so long as people "getting into it" through the movie realise that then I'm sure the fans will be fine.
