What do you think about games having downloadable content? Extra characters, more missions, etc?

I personally hate it - if I have to pay. Why should I pay extra for something that should already be included into the game anyway? Making Yoda and Darth Vader downloadable characters in Soul Calibur IV is one such example - they made such a big fuss of having Yoda for the XBox 360 and Vader for the PS3, yet, a few months later, you can have them on the other console! I like it. The fee is usually very small for single characters, and those that include a few characters / missions / whatever are often only a small price as well.

I'd much rather have updates and downloads like this than a whole new game a year later where the only real changes would be these things anyway.

I'd rather not have to play through 2 games, one an upgrade of the other for games like Smackdown etc for example. Coz once one comes out, it is likely I'd not pick the other one up again, and so I'd much rather they give us downloadable packs for the games we already have, than an annual game release.

The only downloadable content I would pay for would be new songs for Guitar Hero: World Tour or Rock Band. I usually download extra content if its free but that is not very often.

I don't have many games which I'm hooked on, which have downloadable content anyway. So the idea of downloading a map pack seems pretty pointless. Downloading extra characters is slightly less stupid though.

The people who make you pay extra are cunts to be quite honest, it's even more annoying when the arseholes have it planned and they know fine well they're going to release download content as soon as the game is released. I don't mind if it's new maps (ie, CoD4) or other big areas like BioShock because at least then it's more moneys worth than download content saaaaay, for LBP, £5 for MGS4 costumes...fuck off and do one please.
