I'm really surprised this hasn't been made into a topic yet (or am I wrong?), considering all the "achievements" this game has made with the voice acting.

Of course, there are many FF characters who didn't receive voices in their own respective installments. But because of this single game, we've had a broad list of characters "brought to life".

In addition to that, we of course, have a few FF vets returning to take on the voices of characters they've already done. Some of which, like James Arnold Taylor, have switched things up in an attempt to improve and please the fans (anyone notice how Tidus is less whiny in this game?)

So what do you think of the Dissidia voice acting? Which individuals did you like? Which ones need work?

When I first viewed trailers and played the game myself, people like Kuja and Ultimecia put me off since the voices were not like I expected (I was hoping Kuja would be a bit more feminine and Ultimecia possibly having a russian accent with emphasis on C=K when she speaks) however, as i've played I have noticed what good choices they are. Kuja is still pretty much a teen so his voice suits him quite well, especially with his lines, as does Ultimecia. Squall could be less cocky but the voice suits him perfectly, Zidane isn't too bad either now i've warmed to him, and Tidus has very much impressed me, for the reasons you mentioned (but GOD, why the scream scene? D: ). Gabranth I was upset the original VA moved country because he did a good Gabranth, probably better than the one we have, Shanatto had an amazing voice to go with her lines imo xD. I do like WoL's and Firion's voices though, they suit SO well, like you can feel the passion behind Firion's voice if that makes sense and WoL has that dutiful, determined feel behind it.

I'll cut it short there before I turn it into an essay :wacky: but to sum it up, I like pretty much very character's VA, barring some scenes :monster:

I thought the voice acting was pretty good although lots of people sound familiar like Garland and the Final Fantasy characters who had no voices. I found out Garland was piccolo from DBZ but I didn't really know at first. Also Shantottos voice is great but her japanese voice was good too. Also does Golbez have the same voice from Final Fantasy IV DS?

Great posts.

I agree with The Emperor about Furion. When I first heard his voice via the gameplay trailer I saw, I was under the impression that it might be a bit too rough. But (after getting the game) once I was able to listen to it more, and in the story mode, I thought his fit him so well. You hit it on the nail with "passion". Johnny Yong Bosch was a great choice.

Kuja's, I liked. The fact that he's young makes it practical. Plus, I'm glad it wasn't made more feminine (though I once imagined it like that too) because I think that would've turned out too typical/obvious. I thought the VA did a nice job of creating a mixture (though I like the Japanese VA's interpretation also).

Cecil's voice also matched him very well.

Zidane's voice, I was a bit disappointed in. Only because I felt that he sounds a bit too "old".

I've always liked Steve Burton as Cloud. His voice just seems to fit really well with Cloud in sounding reserved yet tough. In this game though, I felt he maybe put a bit too much of a draw on certain lines.

I was surprised to see Wittenberg (aka Kakashi) do Kefka. It sounds a bit cliche, but let's face it, the voice fits pretty well.

When I saw that Chris Sabat would be doing Garland, I pretty much just expected to hear Piccolo. But he actually did a nice job of changing it a bit. You can still hear the kind of "grunt" in his voice at times, but very good.

And yeah, James A. Taylor would be "most improved" for me. Talk about taking direction well.. He really did a great Tidus.

Overall, very nice cast. Great jobs by most.

I liked the voice acting especially Garland's voice but what surprised me was Firron's voice is the same voice actor who does Lelouch's voice from "Code Geass"

Firion's VA also does Kuhn in the .hack//GU games and voices one of the Einherjar in Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria. I'm sure he's done other work, but I would have to research it.

I'm impressed with the voices, no one was too grinding on the ears, albeit Steve Burton fell a bit flat on some of his lines this time around.

I've only got to hear a few of the characters' voices since I'm not done with the Story yet. Currently doing Zidane now and his voice is alright. Doesn't really stand out to me though.

I do love WoL and Firion's voices the best so far, but mostly Firion. It doesn't too deep or too light - just perfect really.

I'm a bit disappointed with Squall's...not sure why exactly, but I think I wasn't expecting that much of a deep voice from him. The bored tone and careless attitude suits him just fine, but the voice itself...er, I dunno.

Cloud suits him as usual. I've always liked Burton on him.

I didn't know Garland has the same VA as Piccolo. Must pay attention next time.

Yup yup, and he also did Vash on Trigun, and of course, his ever-famous role as Ichigo of Bleach.

I agree in part, but I don't think he was hard on the ears or anything. I think this time, maybe, he just didn't put as much in it. But he still wasn't by any means bad, just maybe a bit more mellow than usual? Still, I've always liked him as Cloud, and even his less-than-perfect performance here was still a good one.

That's a good thing. I think most people thought Chris Sabat would be handing us Piccolo, so if it takes a keen listening to tell, then he's doing a pretty good job of switching it up a bit.

Also, I've always been a bit on the fence about Squall since KH. That's the same VA right?

Even with keen listening I really can't hear Piccolo in Garland, as for Cloud, he always seemed too miserable. I know it's in his character, but evn fighting Sephiroth (the rief fight scene) he seemed calm the whole time, with calm lines like 'go back to sleep' when he was about to lunge him. Since he hates Sephy so much you'd think he'd at least show SOME agression :gonk:

Emperor was spot on for his character imo, he had a very dominating voice, if that makes sense and Cloud of Darkness had a very sinister vibe to her speech. Onion Knight's voice is perfect for his age too, Cecil's is good (though I was hoping for a brief change between forms, since Dark Knight has his whole face covered) Golbez was PERFECT tbh, very old/wise/calm and suited his lines and character. Bartz is a laugh, his voice and lines suit him SO well, and Ex-Death has a kind of artificial/sinister feel to his voice with a cold feel to it. Terra has her innocence (although, after FF6 I was expecting her to have a bit of ferocity to her) Kefka, RIGHT laugh, Cloud and Sephy were as expected. Shanatto fit quite well (since I hear she's a middle aged Tarutaru)

Phew, think that's everyone :wacky:

Oh, Trigun! I completely forgot.

I should have worded differently, i meant to say the acting was good, just that Burton fell somewhat below the mark at certain points, namely his initial dialogue scene with the others and his final lines to Sephy.

I think so. I would have to play KH over again, but that might happen sooner than later now that my sis is getting into RPG's.

I though the vice acting was pretty much a hit or miss. Some of them was pretty laughable, I mean, the narrating?! It was hystarical. I couldn't take him seriously at ALL. But some of them are really amazing, I could actually cry when some of their emotions just... ahh.. so, yeah.

The narrating have also made me cringe. The narrator just kept going and going and expected it to be taken seriously. His voice is laughable and just so cheesy.
The voice acting has some wins and some loses. Jecht and Tidus' VAs did marvelous jobs with the voices. Golbez's new VA is also great. Cecil, Warrior of Light, Onion Knight, Firion, Bartz, Terra and most on the Chaos' side are also good. I was only disappointed with Squall's, Cloud's, Sephiroth's and Gabranth's VAs.

Nope. David Boreanaz did the VA for him in Kingdom Hearts and Doug Erholtz took over in KH2 and Dissidia. It's been awhile since I played KH so I can't really compare the two VAs, but from what I hear, they pretty much sound similar, I think.
