I’ve been entertaining the idea of playing this game since the price isn’t so bad now, but I’m a bit skeptical about it after reading some reviews on Amazon.

I don’t know much about NT, just that it’s very different from the original. I enjoyed Dissidia on PSP back then, but I’m definitely not a hardcore, competitive player.

So for those who played the game and DLC, would you recommend it? Anyone still play it?

I still play this every now and then, but it's not exactly a game that I will spend hours on. (I also waited for this to be cheaper to buy it!)

I personally preferred the PSP Dissidia and Dissidia 012. I just feel that Dissidia NT doesn't give you a lot to do. Especially for someone who doesn't have a Playstation Plus membership for online/multiplayer play.

You don't have an individual story mode for each character in NT like you did for the previous games. The story mode in NT is essentially a set of cutscenes that you need to unlock and there are a few battles involved here and there. There is also less room for you to customise your character's attacks, weapons, etc (I preferred the other games in this respect).

The graphics are lovely though and the DLCs have added a few characters that weren't in the previous games. But, since I don't have access to online play, the only thing I can really do is the Gauntlet Mode which is just winning as many battles in a row that get harder and harder.

As I said, it's not a game that I will spend hours on - but if I'm short on time and I want to play something quick, then it's not so bad.

So it's on life support at the moment then. I was reading some stuff over at reddit and apparently the online community is almost nonexistent, at least for the casual players. I'm not interested in online play anyway, but I was hoping there would be a story mode.

It's too bad there's no port for the PS4 though...

Anyway, thanks for the input! @charmy

Isn't Dissidia going to be Free to Play soon?

As for the game... I'm not that taken with it. Just something about the system where you have to go through the equivalent of Arcade Mode again and again to rack up points to unlock story progression is very off putting. I've got it installed incase I want to go back to it for a quick play but them occasions have been rare. I just have no drive or motive to continue it - Which is a shame as mentioned above I also loved Dissidia on PSP & put a good 40+ hours into it, which for me on a portable system is a stretch.

Square Enix unveiled yet another version of the action-brawler spin-off in the Final Fantasy universe, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. A free edition of the arcade original is set to release on PlayStation 4 and Steam very soon, on March 12th.

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT has long been enjoyed at Japanese arcades since its original launch way back in 2015. Western audiences had to wait three years until a PlayStation 4 version was finally released in 2018. Publisher Square Enix wasn’t finished there however and late last year a free version dubbed Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition appeared on Japanese PS4 systems. The circle is finally closing with that Free Edition now being at the doorsteps of gamers outside Japan.

While a PS4 release was to be expected, it’s the announcement that PC users will for the first time get their hand on the action spin-off. Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition will come out on Steam alongside the PS4 day and date.

So, what is the deal with this Free Edition then? Players will get the chance to try out a limited set of characters from the full game’s roster of iconic Final Fantasy characters in online tag-team battles. Of special note is that free players will be able to play against owners of the full game. If they enjoy certain characters, they can either purchase those specifically or get all content permanently by upgrading to the Standard Edition. This won’t just give buyers access to all 28 characters but the Story Mode, too.

Square Enix also plans to support Dissidia Final Fantasy NT post-launch with even more characters, weapons and skins. These will be part of a Season Pass. You can also just buy the Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Deluxe Edition which includes both the Standard Edition and the Season Pass.
