I'd kinda wish they'd have more of a variety in races within the FF games. lol.

When was the last time we seen a black guy in an FF game...in the main party? Kiros (FFVIII) and Barrett (FFVII). That's about it.

I mean, yeah, they have things like the Viera and the Ronso...but I've never seen an Asian or a Hispanic in these games. lmao. Just saying...

What do you think?

Id never really noticed to be honest, but now that you mention it I tink Barrett is the ONLY black person in VII & Kiros in VIII, makes you wonder were the families are and shizz o_O

Reddas in FFXII was black ... wasn't he? :\ But I agree. More racial diversity would be a nice touch in future games.

EDIT:
Does Fran class as Black? That may sound stupid, but minus the ears and she's pretty much human, so I think she should somewhat count.

Lol Asian and Hispanic would be a cool addition. It would certainly be interesting to see what they can come up with as far as CG styles.

Reddas was..black, I guess. Although he wasn't part of the main party. -__-;;

Fran was a damn bunny. haha. She does not count.

Well, Tidus, Yuna and Rikku all look Asian enough in FMVs, but yes, more racial diversaty would be nice, especially since the world in each game is meant to be huge and all that...

Well previously the animation was kind of too cartoonish to matter. Now that they've decided to make people look all realistic-like though, yeah they should probably throw in a few extra races to add to the realism. It's not something I usually think about when playing a game though.

I don't think about it either while playing the game, but, after awhile I start to realize there are not many different races in the game. Not even the NPC's. =/.

So now you want politically correct diversity in FF games? Well for one, they're Japanese games, they're not gonna try to slap in a bunch of ethnicities. And X did have azns in it, Tidus, Yuna and Rikku were definitely Japanese. IX had plenty of fantasy races, too. Aside from the moogles and Bermucians, there were all the furries in Alexandria, like Hippaul.

And while it wasn't a FF, Chrono Cross has a Mexican wrestler in it who kicked ass :neomon:

No. He was a white crazy dude with mutton chops. I don't think a black man would be caught with those.

Kinda? If she is, she's only about as black as Beyonce.

I remember there being a few more races of NPCs in FFX, though my memory seems to be leaving me. Wasn't Gatta hispanic-looking? He kind of was to me, although his hair is bluish...

Tidus and Yuna definitely looked Asian in the FMVs, as well as Wakka. Their hair and skin tone didn't clue us off if they were actually Asian though, but I loved their looks. I wouldn't mind seeing a few more races, but really, it doesn't bother me that much. I guess in the Fantasy world, they have a different scheme of races than us in the world of Reality. :P

Mmm, sexy username for this conversation.

to us, us being of european descent, the main characters seem to be caucasian, but they are probably asian to asians and look asian.

i admit that they look white, but this could be SE making sure that the games sell outside of japan, as white people would have a lot more difficulty realting to asians as they would to white characters.

its just a theory though

I always figured it was a tan, since, you know...he was a pirate. And lived in the port town Balfonheim. Doubt he was black, at any rate. Latino, maybe, or islander.

He's a black guy. It's obvious :3
Definitely not a tan =o

This is kind of a "who cares" topic for me.

FF, and all other Square Enix games are Japanese. The Japs don't really have a multi-cultural country, so I bet that's why you don't see blacks, arabs or hispanics in there.

Anyway, putting something politically correct in there just for the sake of it is retarded, full stop.

It's a rather silly thing to ask of SE. The Japanese are pretty racist and view themselves as teh best race evar (their bizarre fetishes would say otherwise, though).

And personally, if I was black I wouldn't want to be put in a videogame, I'd probably end up being put in blackface. Just look to DBZ for how Japanese see black people:

I'm surprised he wasn't Kami's pancake bitch or something.

Yep only 4 black characters in FF-games: Barret,Kiros, Fran and Reddas. Fran is bunny-girl but she is so human looking that she can be counted as black. If she looked like this rabbit
SGP5001_big.jpg
then she wouldn´t be counted as black.

I really don´t care what race people in FF-games look like, I would like to see more fantasy races like lizardmen and cat-humanoids, although we had these both in FFXII but not as playable.

i would like to see a more variety of races in the games as it would make the games more interesting, i started a thread to this similar the other in the FFXII section as the game has 5 races and you only have 2 in your party. it doesnt bother me too much but it would be more interesting to see a wider range of races and the races be included in the party as it could have an effect and variety of strengths, weaknesses, speeds between the characters in your party.

FFXII has more than 5 races. Humans, Viera,Seeq,Bangaa,Moogle,Nu Mou, those cat-looking guys around that Marquis Ondore guy, some other lizards and well technically all monsters, at least those in Necrohol of Nabudis and those little desert fish-dudes.
