Multiple Platforms Dark Souls

You must be very talented at this game Draklor, because this game pissed me off so much fucking times. I know I'll die in Dark Souls, and try to actually learn my mistakes.

If they say this game will be harder, I'll have to get it and complete it. So far, it looks fantastic, and the monsters look even better in this one. Cat Alligator for the win

OK, so for those of you who bought this game - what did you choose as your starting class, and how are you faring? I went wity Pyromancer, after reading a few topics...plus, Pyromancer. Burning things. Definetely my style. Or so I thought. Might start again as a Thief, or a Knight/Warrior, whichever of those two comes with a Heater Shield.

I need to explore the Firelink Shrine a little more thoroughly, I think. Go up, and I get raped by skeletons. Go down, and I get swarmed by ghosts. Evidently I'm missing something...

Chose warrior and I lvl grinded at the Undead Berg for like, 4 hours. Needless to say, I'm overpowered. Had no trouble with the following boss and then now I'm rocking through the Undead Parish.

This game is hard, but it's certainly not as hard as Demon's Souls. Yet.

Did you go about 5 skeletons worth into the cemetery yet? I thought I was hot shit 'till I ran into "gigante" in there. :hmph:

Anyways. I'm a thief build, same as my typical Demon's Souls build. I've died already but it was my fault for sprinting up a hill (and off a cliff). Yet to be killed. I've also abandoned the shield the gave me and am now just two-hand wielding/dual wielding as the situation dictates.

I made it to the first "world" (I guess?) and got myself a bit lost. Like I said already, I found myself in the cemetery killing skeletons (who have no souls) for the items laying about until I bit off more than I could chew. I didn't try to fight, I just assumed that the one hit that took half my HP away was warning enough to high tail it out of there.

Yeah I did a suicide run through the cemetery in order to get the awesome sword with a Z in the name. Other than that, the skeletons are still more powerful than I am at this point.

Go up the stairs that are right next to the campfire and the well. That'll take you to the Undead Berg and it's perfect for people just starting out.

Awesome sword, you say? :hmmm:

I may have to kill quite a few more skeletons before going to this new place, then.

Edit: I was told it was a heavy 2-hand sword, is this true?

I'm guessing you guys are talking about the Zweihander just past those bastard skeletons? I didn't get that, since the skeletons kept killing me. I wasn't keen on those bastards in Demon's Souls either. Although they were better than the ghosts in the ruins below, which were impossible to kill and, past a certain point, dodge, because they came up out of the floor in their dozens...

I DO have the Drake Sword now, though...which one-shots everything in the Burg, even if it does mess up my movement and rolling speed. Havel's Ring would sort that out, but Havel one-shots me, and I haven't quite managed to get dodging his attacks to be second nature to me yet. Still, since I got a Heater Shield at the start, all I have to do for enemies right now is block their initial attack and then counter it with one of my own. Booyah.

Yeah, the Zweihander, that's it. It's pretty kick-ass once you get the 24 strength and 10 dexterity requirements to wield it. It also helps that I have a lot of endurance so I can run and roll pretty competently even with my full armor and the Zweihander.

I also got the Drake sword. It'll be great for a while, but since it can't be upgraded it will be worthless by endgame. Plus, I prefer the sweeping power of greatswords to the speed of longswords, since you can use a shield with the greatswords too.

Are you sure? I think it needs 10,000 souls plus some other item...drake scales, or something? Bugger if I know where you'll find those...probably from the red dragon on the bridge.

When you get there (if you're not already there) I'd recommend going after Havel, just before the Taurus Demon, for his ring. There is also an NPC in Golden Armour in the upper levels of the Undead Parish you can kill (or try to anyway, he likes rolling a lot an it's bloody hard to stagger him...) for this awesome ring that ups the load you can bear, as well as your strength and endurance, by 20%. Although it breaks if you ever remove it. Still, I've got fully heavy armour and the Drake Sword and I'm wonderfully speedy.

I've...come a long way since this morning. Killed the Capra Demon on my first try...the first boss I've managed to do that with. Spent a while trying to get the Gargoyle's Tail Axe, only to find that it's a pretty clunky weapon. Also explored a forest I don't think I should have, just past the blacksmith in the Undead Parish...found a nice set of armour (Elite Knight Armour, I think it was called) past a fog barrier, in an area crawling with dryad things and very large golems. I'm in the sewer at the moment, doing my utmost to avoid falling into the lower levels and the inevitable curse status that will come with it...and I thought The Last Remnant's curse was bad, this probably just about tops it...instant death AND permanent half max health until you cure it with an item that costs 5000 souls?! That's just excessive.

Also, this game has the worst - WORST - concept of multiplayer ever. EVER. Some complete and utter fucking cunt decided it'd be funny to invade my game and slaughter me when I was halfway through the sewers with over 7000 souls. I've now been booted all the way back to just above the first blacksmith in the Undead Parish. I don't think there are words strong enough to describe my anger. Whoever came up with that stupid stupid stupid FUCKING FUCKING STUPID idea for multiplayer needs to fucking die. They need to be fired, blacklisted, and then forced to live on the streets for the rest of their lives, however short that may be. They shouldn't be allowed anywhere NEAR a video game, ever again. It's the most pathetic and stupid idea I've ever seen in a video game. Bar none.

I'll be firmly signing out of PSN in the future, then. I don't think I'll be playing this game again for about a week either, because I am just THAT pissed off with it. It's ridiculous.

Funny you said "blacklisted" because that's exactly what you can do. In game, you can buy some form of grievance report and that person that invaded your game will be blacklisted and something bad happens to them. I don't know what.

But yeah, just sign out until you need to sign back in if you're having trouble with a boss and need help or something.

It'd be nice if I could, but I don't have any souls left :hmph:

Are you bothering with armour upgrades? I upgraded some armour that the Undead Knights with the rapiers dropped, but now I've abandoned that for the Elite Knight set, which will probably be outclassed by something I'll find later, so I don't really get the point of it. Might as well spend the souls I get levelling up my vitality and endurance (and occasionally strength) and on items. It'd be nice if there was somewhere to conveniently grind...

I'll only upgrade armor (or weapons, for that matter) for the trophies involved. Otherwise, I'll look up online what the "best" armor and "best" weapon is for what I want to do, and I'll upgrade that and stick with that.

Oh, make sure to spend the 3000 souls and buy the repair kit if you want to have any chance of saving armor and weapons.

Grind at the Undead Burg. It's the perfect place for a low level. You get around 1000 souls a run and I'm already at Soul Lvl 22.

I think I'll wait for a trophy guide to pop up before I think about platting it, mostly because I like some sort of direction when I'm doing stuff like that. At the moment, I've been using a video walkthrough every now and then so I have a general idea of where to go, and then playing blind.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I've been keeping an eye on my weapons and armour for a while now :lew:

I was hoping for a little more than 1000 souls a go-around...I've been cleaning out the Parish, which has been getting me about that much each time, but running back and forth is just tedious. But then, that is probably what makes it so frustrating for some.

The knowledge of a potential BP is half the fun of these games :wacky: I can get the rage but I don't get avoiding the online bit because of it.

I've yet to be invaded on this game but I usually destroyed the BPs that invaded my games on Demon's Souls. Most players are just reckless :wacky: Invading other players game is also great fun and a good way to turn your luck around (that goes both ways).

Some poor sap had the misfortune of invading my game 3 times in a single level on Demon's Souls. He was utterly destroyed all three times. :licky:

I'm not the sort of person who enjoys being trashed by a complete stranger. I'm still at a relatively low level at the moment (18) and trying to find my way around things. It rubs me the wrong way, and then some...especially after I'd so painstakingly collected so many souls -__-

Understood :lew: After misfortune like that is when I would use my Red Eye Stone to rob some poor guy of their souls. Speaking of which, do you guys know what items there are for invading/summoning? I think I found some consumable items for invading, but... :hmmm:

Dunno if this has changed any since Demon's Souls, but can't you just go back to where you died and pick the souls back up? :| I always thought you couldn't in Demon's Souls because of how people reacted to getting killed :hmmm:

You can't get your souls back when someone kills you. They take your souls and your life (I guess your humanity, now?)

Ohhh... :hmmm: I didn't know that. I've never been invaded because I'm always in soul form and don't bother to revive myself :lew: I always fall off a cliff so I get tossed back to soul form :sad3: Although I don't think soul form is in Dark Souls that I know of.

If I can get back to where I was killed without dying, I'll be astounded. I was very deep in the sewers...although, that said, the only trouble I came across was a rat ambush and a random spellcaster I didn't see because of how dark it was, so it's possible...I suppose I'll try it tomorrow morning and get back to you on that. Because now I'm curious :hmph:

...if I can, I'm warping back to the fire and spending those souls ASAP. Unless I find another fire a little way in...I should do, because the sewer is a bloody big place. Although fairly linear and not too crowded, provided you don't fall down a hole...hoping to avoid the toads altogether.

I've seen some online-related items in my inventory, and I tried using something to banish a Phantom when the person invaded me (I forget what it was called) but it told me there wasn't one to be banished...right as the little fucker was backstabbing me.

EDIT:

Your default state is Hollow, and yes, it is Humanity now. Having Humanity also increases item drops, apparently. I've still got some Humanity items left, so I'll use a couple of those when I play again - one to make me human, one for item drop increases. Guess I won't be trying again tomorrow either, if there really is no hope :sad3:
