Ambi, you have just made yourself the bad guy here. Why force people to use magic on the only character who can use weapons. Also people are limited to 5 attributes per level? So cura is going to be either.

Also, Adamant, I thought you did not like locking threads.

It is one thing making Berserk and Haste user only. But cura is for healing. To be honest, 6 potions are not really adequate.

OK, I will close thread now.

Your argument is like saying Gandalf the Grey should wear armor and use swords instead of magic, just because he's able to. IF PEOPLE WANT TO BE WIZARDS, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO. These aren't limits, they are options specifically designed for people who want to do this.

I really don't want to give the long speech here, but if we can't just leave this alone and move on, I may have to. DB and STL already agreed with me on this, so can't we just leave this at rest and move on?

DB does not even play the game. Your argument does not apply to this issue. Also, I would prefer us to discuss this with, with him, together. Not just you.

Cura is for healing. Forcing the main character to waste a turn healing is somewhat stupid.

Sigh...

A long, long time ago in a little game called Final Fantasy 1, there was a unit class called White Mages who got a neat little spell called Cure. You see, Cure was able to heal players that got injured in battle without having to spend a fortune on potions. In fact, when leveled up, Mages using this spell could not only heal more than potions, they could heal faster than monsters could do damage. Players soon realized the advantage in this- EVEN THOUGH it costs MP and uses a turn, it allowed you to keep your entire team healed indefinitely, allowing you to save gil AND allowing your other players to focus on battling.

Since this is a FINAL FANTASY based RPG in a FINAL FANTASY based forum, I think it would be rather smart to follow tradition whether you like it or not, wouldn't you agree? Now, considering that White Mages and Black Mages are household names to ANY Final Fantasy fan, I'd think that it would be rather reasonable to give a player the OPPORTUNITY to fulfill those roles, don't you think? Sure, we COULD make all of the spells open to both players, and we COULD make all of the equip items only affect STR and DEF, but if we do that, then pets could have exactly the same magic strength as players.

I have a serious issue with that. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that players have a HUGE advantage over pets when it comes to physical attacks. There's nothing we can do about it- it's just part of the game- so I decided to adapt by making players stronger magic users than pets as well. I made player exclusive spells, spells given directly to players through NPCs, and equippable items that increase MAG and MAG DEF.

Now, if you're telling me that all spells should be open, that player-to-pet magic difference decreases dramatically, while the attack difference stays exactly the same. Sure, we could do this, but would you be willing to balance it out by removing dual wielding or attack types? Of course not. There is a reason magic gets so much attention in both Final Fantasy and RPG Inferno- it is JUST as important as physical attacks, whether you like it or not.

If you were to tell a Final Fantasy 1 veteran that mages were worthless, he would laugh in your face. Now, how you possibly expect to make an accurate translation of the FF spirit if you refuse to give magic users a reason to exist?

There is a spell called Cure. Which at the moment nobody can use accept for early monsters. If you chose to add this and make it better than Cura, I would say you have an argument. You could make Cure user only.

A player cannot even get Curaga until much later in the game. That is a weak argument as well.

Cura is not Cure.

I am not saying magic users are not important. I was the one who said that spells should do more damage than physical attacks. But that is another issue altogether.

Cry moar in here, as long as you gtfo the public forum.

I don't see it as a bad thing for being user only. It prevents players and their party from being excessively apt at battling. I always assumed it to be a slight addition to the whole aspect of a 'challenge,' seeing as that's what Inferno is all about.

Along with the whole fun thing too, of course...

This was a pretty lame stunt on Ambi's part. People already saw those posts. As far as I am concerned, the issus is closed. Just lock this thread and put it in the archive.

I also noticed that a member started another thread and it got locked. So this issue is not going to be seriously addressed.

The threads in RPG Cafe got moved to RPG Archive. Since according to powers to be, the problem was resolved.

Actually, that was MY stunt.
Hence why I posted in both threads.
Brain. For smartmaking.

lol

So it was you who split the thread. OK, Ambi is off the hook this time. ;)

And while it may be true that some members with a special interest in this had already seen it, that doesn't mean it should remain public forever =P
