How do you guys feel about competition? It's something that you either love or abhor.

Personally, I love and breathe competition. I'm the most competitive person I know. :smartass: I do it online and off especially in things like Academic team or just in class. I like it. It may be the vibes, it may be the allure of being the 'best', or it may be a combination of all those things, but either way, I love it, and I love when people are competitive as well.

Oh blah, I've started competing at such an early age...I believe I was only 4 when my mom really pushed me and my brother to be ahead of everyone else in class. It worked, as I held the "First Honor" in my class during my Kindergarten years, as well as the 1st and 2nd grade. My brother would always be the one behind me.

Anyway, during our younger years, my mom would do her best to teach us everything. Now, back then, English wasn't really used in the Provinces, but we went to a private school so we were actually ahead in the academics area since our mom taught us very well, each and every single day. Sometimes, it's a point where things were getting overwhelming, especially when she used the belt on us if we didn't pay attention, lol.

But she meant well...she's just a very competitive mom too. Even now...even when a vast ocean separates us...she's still the same. I think that competitions can be fun, but I honestly can't stand it when there's other people pushing you to do your best and constantly nagging you every step of the way.

When I finally came to the U.S, there was still the competitiveness left in me, and as I grew up, I always wanted to be the one who was up there when it came to grades. Overall, I did well in school, although sometimes I can't help but feel worthless when I failed at something. I'd talk on the phone with my mom and when she found out I received a C on something, she freaked out and it made me feel as if I had let her down.

So yes, that's the bad thing about competition...you expect a lot from yourself, but things don't always go your way. Now I'm just more lax with my daily life. I don't really try to compete anymore as I found out that it's much easier to just set some easy standards for yourself (and if possible, try to go beyond a little further along the way), rather than aiming high right off the bat.

I love the competition in football. It forces me to perform, or else I'll be replaced. It gets the best out of me and ensures that I give it my all.
Unfortunately, I only compete with one or two others for my position, so I'm usually pretty certain of my place.

I don't really feel bad if I lose out, because I know that all I need to do is try harder next time and fight for my place, which again gets the best out of me.

I love competition. Im usually all stressed and nervous before a competition, but I am very competetive and I don't do it to have fun... well half of it is fun, but I really like winning. I don't win all the time, but I'm don't keep at something for that long if I'm not getting anywhere

Sure, I'm competitive. Extremely competitive, actually.

However! I do not enjoy competition. Why? Because I don't handle losing very well.

I'm not a naturally competitive person. But I often did try to do the best that I reasonably could -- and it paid off fairly well in high school and college (grades, awards, scholarships).

:)

Competition always strikes me as something where there's discord. I like harmony, so at the most fundamental level I don't personally enjoy competition.

im very competitive, but if it takes control it ends up very dangerous cos im known for a very bad temper. (runs in the family lol)

I like healthy competition it makes you work harder to be number one.

And of course when you actually win and can do that long awaited victory dance to your opponent then it's really a happy feeling.

I don't show it externally, but I can be pretty competitive with others when they don't realize it, haha. Like I would be the kid in class who'd rush over the problems and try to be the first one to finish.

Ugh, but I started taking it a little too hard when I joined my high school's varsity tennis team. So I think my experiences with that helped me get over it.

I still like to compete, but like to think of it as competing against myself - instead of comparing myself to others, I measure against how well I did last time and see if I was able to improve.

Meh, it’s alright, for the most part, I’m usually a non competitive person. In fact, the only time can remember being competitive would (obviously) be while playing sports in High School other than that, the occasional two player game with friends.
