As you may remem ber some years back a couple of chemists at the university of Utah sparked a furor when they claimed to have discovered a way to generate "cold fusion" process.

Now another chemist, an Italian is making similar claims with something he calls an "E cat".

Here's the link if you want to read the article.

I have my doubts.

Of course humanity needs fusion power desperately but I doubt we're anywhere near technologically being able to achieve it.:x3:

I had an opinion on fusion energy 2 years ago.

Whatever it was, I've completely forgotten it. :gonk:

As far as I know, fusion energy was deemed theoretically possible as early as the 1960's. Richard Feynmann, Robert Bussard & others were the real pioneers of fusion energy & literally spent decades developing the requisite technology in the 1980's & decades earlier.

If they're finally succeeding its an achievement that's been 3+ decades in the making. Most of the those who laid the groundwork who were mostly responsible for it being possible are unfortunately dead now. :ohshit:

Actually the idea of fusion has always been appealing to me and believe it or not, we are closer to making it work than most people would think. However, even if we had it all figured out to a sharpened point, we would still have one major issue... FUNDING.

Now there are a great many alternate fuels sources we can look towards, and many that would work. Did you know there is an element known as Helium3 on the moon... that acts independently from other elements, thus enabling us to contain and move it. They say that this is the only thing on the moon that we could actually carry back to Earth that would be worth the trip in the first place... not even diamonds or gold would be worth it... but this element would.

Funding is the major problem when it comes to putting any of these great ideas into affect. Say we had fussion ready to roll and locked and loaded... it still wouldnt just pop up instantly. So many people are banking off of the oil market, and the rest of them are standing behind different alternative fuel sources as opposed to the same one. We need a joint enterprise of investment... so that we can just pick ONE (any of them would be fine) and stick to it, and make it work!

It would be nice to see some of these guys like Bill Gates get together and start some funding in an effort to get more.
