Ok i know that it could potentially damage the forums in the long run but it is the lesser of two evils at the moment - this other forum really hates this forums guts - and after checking out thier forums they have more than one wave planned, and quite frankly this is ridiculous- were being swampped with multiple accounts and spammers - us ordinary members are feeling powerless as all we can do is watch!

Look i know closing registration isnt fair - but at the moment i and several others feel that we have no other choice - and it would be the lesser of two evils - the current members are worried and unhappy, its depressing everyone and causing mistrust everywhere.

If this is classed as spam or drama im sorry but i am really hating to see FFF being disgraced by all these raiders and i think - with others - that its time that the ultimate defensive move was put into place.

I agree. Its taken its toll on the mods espically. But it has caused a great deal of mistrust round the forum the pass couple days. Maybe it would be a good idea to stop registration for awhile.

Those jerks wont stop anytime soon. Perosnally Im tempted to swarm them back, but it'll only make things worse. Hopefully if we close down the registration for awhile, they'll get bored and bugger off with their sad lifes.

Just building on to that last line:

One form of defence I don't want anyone to resort to would be their own offensive manoevure. Obviously, we can't stop members from joining another forum, but I strongly feel that everyone should just try to keep moving on and forgetting about these people, who are nothing short of pathetic.

It's a cliche', but please don't stoop to their level. They'll tire ... eventually.

I think this would be a good idea. This is just ridiculous and new members are going to be scared away if they see all this drama and spam. And it will also give the mods a break from all of this. There were two people on last night who were banning over fifty members and other mods weren't able to get on because of the time difference.

I think closing registration for a few week would be the best thing to do right now. So I support this

The last thing i want or anyone else wants is for anyone on FFF to go over to shinra and cause spam & drama - that would only cause more trouble for us and the mods.

all i think we need to do is stop them posting here for a while - like Rydia said it is a massive strain on the moderators as well as everyone else.

I am in full agreement of this. It would be a shame to close registration even for a few weeks, but right now i think it's our only option.

I have to say that this idea isn't half bad. While it really sucks that we might have to resort to this kind of action, it is becoming uncontrollable.

The only other real solution is to put a limit on where people could post (like Riku mentioned before in another thread, only for different reasons) until they got a certain number of posts. That way the spammers could be quickly siphoned out from the true members. With less places to have to track the spam down at, the easier the mods and admins can take care of the problem.

I also think it might be worth looking into taking on a few special mods with the sole purpose of weeding out spammers and attacks on this forum. Even if it's just a temporary position. The problem comes in I guess in how do you know when it's a member posting a one time spam that should be allowed to slide by with maybe a warning, and when it's someone who is just going to spam like crazy. I think if you set the limit to say 10 to 15 posts before you get full access to the forums may be a wise idea. That way the newbies wouldn't have to post in the same forums a lot just to become active, but the spammers will be stopped dead in their tracks before they can spam the entire forum.

If the site did want to take on temporary mods for just this person, I would be willing to sign up. There's nothing worse than trying to post in a serious thread just to see a spam follow as a response. It's really undignified.

So, I'm with Aeris on this one. Though, I do think our mods and admins are doing a terrific job in finding and halting the spam as of now. I haven't been able to report a single instance because as soon as I see one, the member is already banned. I applaud our mods and admins on this, but if they need help, I'll reach out and do whatever I can.

So like, these people come from different forums who obviously have some sort of grudge or whatever and just post nasty pictures and stuff?

Wow...this takes the phrase "Get a Life" to a whole new meaning......

I agree with this. Because of this incident, some members who may have been innocent have been banned or suspended. I don't know why the other forum is so persistant, but this seems like the best option so far.

The last thing i want or anyone else wants is for anyone on FFF to go over to shinra and cause spam & drama - that would only cause more trouble for us and the mods.

Yeah, hence the reason I said I was tempted, but it would make things worse. But they seriously need reality checks. Going on about how pathetic this forum is, yet that one is *shudder* its a horrible place.

I think this is probably the best course of action for now, the mods have been put under a lot of pressure with this raid. Although, this could be exactly what they want us to do. But we need time to get organize again so i'm for it.

I think it would be easier to come to a truce if what they said was true--apparently, one of the raiders admitted that if they hadn't received a certain mass PM advertisement, none of this would have happened. All we can do is apologize for that PM advertisement because none of us approved of it nor would advocate such an offensive act. Even better would be if the person who did send that PM advertisement came out and admitted it.

Strife birings up a good point. I've been over there spying and they said that their ultimate goal was to destroy this forum, and closing registration might be the start of that. However, considering they publicized their plans that might not be something to go by. But at the end of the day i support whatever the staff here decide to do.

I kind of agree under certain circumstances. Yea, closing the registration will help for the moment. But in the long run it is bad. So here is my suggested plan of action:

1) Only close registration if there are none or very little staff members online.

2) I think it might be a good time to implement a separate board for new members. It'd help control where they post.

3) Do not keep it closed for more than a day.

I make these suggestions because the forum I was previously on was dying. Closing registration was the dagger in the heart cause we were scared of one guy. It was closed for weeks. No new members, no new topics, just 2 active topics.

Also, this is a whole forum that is out to get us. As soon as we open it, they'll flood us again. Keeping it open will at least do some good.

Idk, these are just my opinions.
To be closed to get our plan together. Im all for it. But to bar registration cause we're scared.

Still barring it for today will be nice. No more spam and porn and everyone can take a few breaths.

Sorry if I came off very all over the place, but Im just writing what Im thinking at the moment.

We've already apologized several times - yet there not listening 0 myself and mitsuki have been looking at their forums and half of the threads are LMAO at FFF - FFF must die - lets re-sign up at FFF.

There like dogs with bones - there not going to let go.

I'm starting to feel that maybe closing down registration would be a bad idea. If we instead ban IP addresses of the spammers (if we don't already), and try to ignore the spamming, it will have to stop eventually. If we wait this thing out, they're going to get bored. Any one group of people who has enough free time to do nothing but attack an online forum is more than likely going to tire easily. These people are obviously not mature enough to have the sort of attention span that it would take to close down an entire forum. The only people we would have to worry about is hackers, and they could get in with or without a ban on registration.

If we close down our registration we would merely be showing off our weakness. The more we have to change ourselves in order to stave off these people, the more we are going to add to the fire. If they see that their attacks have had a big enough effect on us to cause us to start closing off registration, then they might be spurred on to continue further. However, a lack of reaction to their attacks would probably cause them to bore quite quickly.

There is another way to get them to stop, and it wouldn't cause us to stoop down to "their level", if that's the way you want to word it (personally I call it an eye for an eye), however, I just don't believe that this forum has it in us to pull off a feet of such mass cooperation. Maybe... I'll look into this idea a little further before posting exactly what it is. If I think it may be feasible, I'll go into more detail later.

What we need ot do is what Melancholy Rockithttp://www.finalfantasyforums.net/../memberslist/melancholy-rockit.html vbmenu_register("postmenu cause it a good idea cause then we can allow new member to join but also let us control them cause of staff that is on if it is another raid wave it would be a good plan cause what happened yesterday was not the best since only 2 staff could take care of FFF.

This is the undeniable truth, that most of the people that posted spam here in order to satisfy their own selfish desire for a pityful revenge are seriously immature people.

We apologized, right? They won't listen, right? I say that one of the admins here should get in contact with one of the admins of Shinra Online, or even discuss this matter with the owner. Still, I am not 100% sure if that would change anything....

Has anyone seen the post that the owner of the Shinra forums has written to his own members? It seems that the owner may, in fact, be on our side. It may be possible that this was blown out of proportion to quickly. He may have posted it to distract us... but that just doesn't seem like the case. Perhaps this is something that will cool down quite quickly?

I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure I know what's going on here. I mean, I know the story behind it, and have seen some of the spamming, but I don't know how much of it I really understand. Maybe I have seen the whole extent, but I doubt it. So, maybe I'm not the best guy to be taking advice from, but I think that this is not something that is going to turn into a huge issue. I'm not saying that the other forum is going to stop today, but I think that this is going to go away very shortly. After all, it's not the forum itself that is attacking us (supposedly, like I said, I don't know if I know the whole story), but just a few members. These members are obviously a lesser threat than an entire forum. I think that the banning of IP addresses will go a long way in stopping the few people who are most likely responsible.

I thought it was odd that an entire forum had joined forces on a full on e-attack. The thought is just a little silly. I'm kind of shocked on what they allow in that forum though. It kind of makes you wonder how it relates to FF more than Pornography. Maybe it doesn't. As I said before, I'm not exactly up to date on everything that has happened in the past 24 - 48 hours.

To Squall:

The admins here have already been in contact with them and the owner of Shinra has put out a message to be more or less be careful of what they post on our forums because we aren't as lenient as they are. It didn't really say to stop, or that it wasn't condoned, just that we weren't happy about it and we don't particularly care for the strong content.
