Playstation Chrono Trigger

So I ordered Final Fantasy Chronicles off of Amazon because I've always wanted to play both Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger and all I can say is wow. Chrono Trigger is so effing awesome. I can't believe I just now played it for the 1st time considering how long its been out.
What are all of your thoughts on this game?

I have the DS version, which I bought on the strength that loads of people have it on top of their "Top 10 RPGs" lists. Honestly, about 5 hours in, I wasn't enjoying it, but I'm prepared to give it another roll.

I got the DS version too, and have to say that it's pretty great. Old-style RPG at its finest. The battles are different and interesting. A variety of characters. A great soundtrack. Old-style graphics that are better than modern day graphics (highly debatable, I'm sure).

It's no FF, but it's still fun

I wish FF games would return to turnbase combat because that is one of the biggest reasons that I love Chrono Trigger. And seeing as how for the most part after X the games have been quite bad IMO, playing this game is really refreshing and I find myself enjoying this game to bits. And the graphics don't bother me one bit even in todays age of graphics and technology. I think this game is beautiful. And even though it's "not up to snuff" in alot of peoples eyes I'd take an awesome story that draws you in, over a game thats insanely beautiful but has no story and crap characters.
I wanted to order Chrono Cross as well but I chose not to since I have FF I, II, IV, V, and VI to still play.
I always heard fans calling CT the best RPG they've played so I figured I'd give it a shot. And I must say that I love it.

Chrono Trigger is one of the best JRPG's that I've played ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever. I think that it's my 3rd favorite game ?

I love this game to bits, it's such a wonderful game. I'm in the Magus Castle about to fight Magus as we speak. I love learning the story about Frog. Such a sad story it makes you wanna just hug the little guy :/

Ah the sweet taste of victory. How much I loved kicking his ass. Not only for what happened in the flashbacks but he is a super pain in the ass when you fight him. He's probably been my hardest challenge up to this point. I always keep Marle in my party when I only have 1 spot open. 1 because I absolutely love the shit out of her character and 2 because she heals and I take full advantage of her spell casting and haste especially.
Magus' barrier can suck a fat one.

And an update as of now. I'm doing some serious grinding for both exp and techs. I'm leveling up at Mt. Woe fighting those 2 groups of the Bantam Imps. Seriously, 696 exp and 24 Tech points a piece for maybe 30 seconds of work? Absolute cake. I'm level 35 and am about to learn Luminaire for Crono. I really haven't encountered a tough boss yet and thats excluding all of the grinding I've been doing. Although that Golem that that dude summons for you to fight, yeah that thing whipped my ass so bad. Outside of that and Magus nothing has really touched me and made me panic.

Progress update. As of now I just got done fighting those Golem Twins and I beat the living shit out of them. Crono learned Luminaire and was level 45, the other 2 were 42 and 43. I have Ayla, Marle, and Crono as my party and I just kept spamming the Falcon Attack her and Crono use. I also made sure to haste Marle so she could heal them as the twins used their garbage stuff of cutting your HP in half. What happens after that is just crazy. I wont go into detail due to there could be ppl out there who haven't played this game yet but all I can say is damn shit just got real.

Another update so far. I just passed the super holy shit stuff that happened when you have to win that certain prize from the carnival. I absolutely loved kicking the living shit out of Dalton. He is an absolute douche bag and I couldn't stand that tool. I have the option to either do these side quests for ultimate weapons or to go directly at Lavos and fight him. Seeing as how I'm an uber completionist with my games I'm going through and doing all of these sidequests. I just completed the quest for Lucca and that was definitely sad. Especially if you didnt enter the password and just stood there and kept hitting X like my dumbass did, so all it kept saying was "enter password". I didnt know you had to hit the buttons. I was waiting for a keypad or something to come up lol. So naturally I reloaded and did what I was supposed to do.
I like that person you pick up to. Kinda unexpected. But seeing as how I read through the manual I already knew that this person would join your party. Random question but did anybody else absolutely love Schala? Crono is a little mack daddy with all of these females lmao.

Another update so far. I'm now starting side quest number 7 where you have to go through the Black Omen thats been floating in the sky. It's crazy how much stuff you change throughout the past and how drastically different things are in the future. Especially when you kill Azura and you fast forward to present time and the creatures are living in peace with humans. I found that so fucking awesome about this game with the whole time traveling and changing the past aspect. The exp in this place is insane. I hear you can keep going back in forth in time and go through it again and again as many times as you want? Shit if thats the case then count me in on that.

Yeah, it's not a tough game imo, except for very close to the end. It may just have been that the battle system is fast (and fun) enough to make you want to level loads, so it all seems easy. Maybe.

Ah no, I haven't played the game in sooo long and then I only played through it once. I think if you are just going through the main game, you can just level in each new area and be completely fine. It's what I did

It'd be nice if they gave the Chrono Trigger series some attention since they finally got around to a KH3 games after how long? Sadly though I've never played any of the KH games so I can't comment on anything about them, but it'd be awesome if once KH3 comes out and the new FF comes out that they'd say something about a new Chrono game. That would be fucking fantastic as long as they dont butcher it. My faith isn't the highest so I'm kinda iffy on it.

Ah fans have been praying, wishing, wanting some more Chrono Trigger since 1996. Sadly Square has ignored all desires and people have even made Chrono Trigger fan projects, which Square found out about and told the fans to close down the projects or they'll go to court basically. Square Enix sad that they won't do anything more Chrono Trigger related unless the Chrono Trigger DS port sold millions of copies, which it didn't because it was just a fucking port. So the chances of more CT are very small.

Squaresoft at least tried to expand the Chrono universe with Cross, only for it to blow up so they had a excuse for being unkeen to try and touch a game seen as a treasure again. Squareenix today though ? No fucking excuse and they basically downright said " No more Chrono unless you give us shitloads of money ".

I wouldn't trust Square-Enix with anything old. Just look at Crisis Core and what they changed between the original Final Fantasy VII and the newer game. Adding in stupid things like Genesis during Sephiroth's breakdown and being apart of the reason why he went cray-cray.

I think it's best that Square Enix does newer projects and just focuses on newer things like Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy XV because they have a nasty habit of changing things that they think that are "cool " example would be Last Order and doing things in favor of Sephiroth instead of the original game canon.

I can picture Square-Enix doing things in favor of somebody like Magus.

I've heard nothing but great things about IV from alot of fans and I'm really looking forward to playing it. Now I haven't done any researching on the game outside of the whole "is it worth it" debate, but I have to say that the person named Kain sounds like a badass when I was reading the manual that came with the game. I've got alot of retro RPGs to play so I'm gonna be pretty busy for awhile lol.

That's what I read in this walkthrough I used for the game(yeah I know I used a strategy guide, booo!) and I'm really interested to see these different endings. Now normally back when I was younger like 15-16 years old I would say fuck guides, but I'm an uber completionist with my games since I've grown up and I hate HATE missing things. Especially things that can effect the direct outcome of a game. I'm definitely interested to see what all of the different endings are.

Yeah ! Plus the music makes it whole more epic as well ! And Steiner's change between " I hate Zidane because he's a thief commoner " to " I like Zidane, and I see him for who he truly is and he's more than just a thief "

And Dagger's growth as well from being the one that always needs help to the one that ends up helping somebody else becoming a strong and independent girl.

I think it's because he's not " cool " look at Cloud and Sephiroth they look " cool " so they are loved by fanboys and plus they look " sexy " so then they get the fangirls. Zidane has a monkey tail and looks rather short and younger than most female Final Fantasy players so he gets neither.

I do think that some of the Final Fantasy fanbase is quite shallow. Zidane proves it.

I can understand liking Cloud. He's that underdog that became the hero that saved the world. Sephiroth ? Not so much. Even in Crisis Core he was quite smug and narcissistic imo.

But then Vivi gets so much love despite coming from Final Fantasy 9 then again most of the main reasons why some people love him is because he looks cute. Not because he's a strong ( mentally and physically ) child that overcomes alot of shit in his life at a very young age.

Not EVERY Sephiroth or Vivi fan is like this of course. I have seen some awesome essays on why Vivi is such a good character because of his resilience to overcome the bad moments in life.

Just some people's reasons to love a certain Final Fantasy character is " He has a big long awesome looking Masamune and he killed all them people in flames " !1111!


Square- Enix knows this too. Hence why Snow has gotten the pretty boy makeover in Lighting Returns and a giant double-dagger weapon which oh ! Which is what ZIDANE USES !

Oh Kain is pretty badass ! I've only seen a very small amount of people dislike FF IV. Most of it's good things and yeah I'll reckon it deserves it's praise and think that it deserves a little more but that could just be being biased lol.
