I really love playing Final Fantasy, but aren't the character designs, well... a little repetitive? The male leads are often 'androgynous or effeminate' to quote wikipedia.org, and they're usually skinny, blonde, spiky haired teenagers! Would anyone else welcome a change? Maybe some FACIAL HAIR?! Someone like Basch (minus the the blonde hair) would be really cool.
Thoughts? :)

And for the the record, who was the main character in FF12? Vaan was forgettable in my opinion.

Hmm yeah I kind of agree with you.

I really don't mind the current character designs for the males at the minute because most of them are just bloody hot. :wacky:

But for future character ideas it would be nice to see some change.

Maybe a David Beckham lookalike. =P

Shaved head and a beard that is shaved very close to the skin.

I do think that they use teenagers a little too much as the main characters.

Some older men and women with a different outlook on things would be a nice change I reckon.

hmmm, i wonder what his intelligence stat would be...
in any case the villian would have to be victoria beckham, and her evil plot would be to use the earth as her new breast implant.

LOL. XD

Really he wouldn't be anything like David Beckham save for the similar looks.

I really doubt he'd be a hit as the main character in a Final Fantasy Game if they were to use his personality as well. <_<

But Victoria as the villain could work, though I don't think SE would think that her making the world as her new breast implant a good idea due to the little kids also playing this game. XD

Original but boring and they'd have to add:

'Horror' as one of the warnings on the front label. XD

The recent trend bored me because of all the zippers and belts and massive swords and stuff like that, by I actually like the current design's for all 3 of the XIII compilation, especially Versus. Although that still continues the trend of zippers, it's actual real life clothing, such as Stella's skirt/dress which appeals to me much more than recent Final Fantasy designs, simply because, it's realistic, as is Noctis' clothing.
Then you have FFXIII which still has the fantasy like clothing that Lightining wears, but it still looks very pleasurable to the eyes.

Nomura is not exacly a creative character designer. He borrows from his own (and amano's) previous concepts a lot. Look at the main characters of FFVIII, The Bouncer, and Kingdom hearts and I'll promise you you'll see some huge resemblances. Or Snow from XIII, Seifer from VIII, and Beat from TWEWY.

Technically Vaan was, but he was never supposed to be. In fact he was never even supposed to be in the game. Squeenix higher-ups basically added him and penelo in because they figured that teenagers wouldn't want to play a game that centered around adults and would be able to connect to a teenage protaginist better. Hence Vaan is also so undeveloped. Basch was originally supposed to be the main character, and XII was supposed to be much more "grimdark" like Tactics was.

Well, I think the designs are getting girlier with every new FF that comes out (for the guys, anyway...), so yeah, there should be a bit of change. But, aren't they already doing that with Snowe in FFXIII? He looks guy enough, in my opinion.

I actually like the design of the characters. They are all modernized and are trying to appeal to the game's audience, most of which probably like the designs, since they keep making characters like that. I wouldn't mind a Basch esque character as a lead, though, as he had a good design. I liked the way Squall dressed and Cloud's huge Buster Sword/First Tsurugi quite well.

Oh man, that would have been so much win. Vaan was too standard and boring...

For the design, I'm not bothered with similarities between character design from the different games. It's kinda the FF 'house style', a game featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger or Bruce Willis look-a-likes wouldn't feel like a FF game to me.

Ever noticed that almost all the characters look like Asians that dyed their hair? Sure, there are some exceptions but far and in between.

I would like if their characters especially their leads looked a little more diverse like maybe a Hispanic or someone that is of mixed race

Rofl.

You're right. The designs are pretty repetitive. The faces, the short skirts, the showing skin. Oh Square Enix...

The swords... :wacky:

I dunno though. It hasn't "bothered" me in any way. I suppose it works, but it would be nice to see a swing of clothes, though I think it might put alot of people off if there were a main guy/girl in a suit, or school uniform. I wouldn't take the character seriously if that were to happen. :wacky:

Ugh. I am getting tired of seeing the same guys with perfect straight hair and woomanly features. Its all so repetitive. I'm tired of seeing the same typical outfit designs. There's always some girl with a mini skirt. There are always whips and chains and random straps having no purpose hanging off their clothes. It gets tiring after a while. I'm also tired of seeing the same personalities in the heroes of the games. Theres always some happy go lucky person there and there's always that hero who's got the girl and its all so blah. I hope SE gets creative with their character designs in the future. It would make things much more interesting...
