Character design in the FF series are generally a high selling point, SE making them as cool as possible to fit into their worlds.
But what are some design details or flaws that annoy you?

I'll start with a few off the top of my head:

Zell (VIII): Dude, that tattoo on your face does not make you look cooler.

Rikku (X-2): How did they go from cute spunky girl to a Rastafari with dreadlocks in a bikini is beyond me...

Steiner (IX): You're a knight, you shouldn't be wearing eye-liner.

Vaan (XII): I think your vest might be too small. Are you that poor in Dalmasca that you can't afford one that fits your size?

I guess it was Yuna's design change that kinda frustrated me. Seriously, her summoner outfit was pretty cool, so why change it in FFX-2? I don't know, but those freakishly short shorts and revealing shirt that obviously shows she isn't wearing a bra just seemed so.......well.....scandalous. Another thing that bothered me (but on a lower level) was that they changed her face a little. She looked so much more innocent in FFX. In FFX-2 Yuna was beginning to look like a cross between Tidus and Sora, which would be a good thing if it suited her, but it didn't.

^ I thought Vaan's vest was cute, reminded me of Aladdin

I am going to have to say Tifa, for one. Over exaggerated breasts and skimpy outfit, terrible. I did like Rikku's because it suited her personality better, and they didn't make her look like a porn star. The thong does make me shudder, but she lived in the desert, and she's adorable, I'll let her pass.

X2, basically all the outfits

Outfits I did like: Aerith, Rinoa, Garnet (the princess dress and the yellow jumper). They should stick to pretty outfits, imo.

All the outfits in FFX-2. I mean, what the hell? The girl characters from the previous game were cute, not slutty. I was highly disapointed.

Outfits/looks I didn't like:

Lulu...her outfit translated well into FMV but in-game it just looked clumsy.
Tifa...her outfit did NOT suit her personality, she was not the flirty cheap type at all.
Ashe...the micro mini clashed with her otherwise awesome knight outfit.
Bartz and Firion - way too similar looking for my liking. The white hair/blue eyeliner combination was also a fail for me.
Kuja - dude, decide on your gender, please.

Outfits I DID like :)

Balthier - damn, as if he wasn't sexy enough. The dangly earring is a minus though
Rosa and Lenna - love the classic capes and skirts and jewels
Terra - beautiful!
Penelo - her outfit was super cute.
Garnet - though the big sleeves and tight pants did make her look HORRIBLY out of proportion at first, her haircut fixed it :) Her white queen's dress was also stunning.
Vivi - he's a black mage. Nuff said.

As a whole my favorite costume designs collectively in a game would be 6. I'm a fan of Amano's designs.

Character designs I didn't like:

While technically not a character design flaw, I wish in the PSP Remake of FF1 they included female sprites :gonk:

Cecil change from Dark Knight to Paladin, his sprite turned from what I think is african brown to caucasian (skin colour)

Gestahl, what are you? A poodle? I dunno whether to get out my sword or a dog biscuit...

Cloud, never liked his gravity defying cement held hairstyle :gonk:

Tifa, as mentioned above her outfit really didn't go with her personality

Vincent, stereotypical vampire much?

Selphie, if she's really military what's up with the yellow dungerees?

Quistis, imo the orange outfit didn't really go that well

Eiko, shorter sleeves pl0x

Amarant, wtf was up with his hair? I thought that was a turban for half the game

Garnet, considering how dutiful and royal she is, WHY was she wearing an outfit to make her butt stick out? :gonk:

Brahne, one word... Eww. Dunno what species she is to get blue skin

Tidus, what was with the I think the left dungaree leg being cut shorter?

Auron, what was the point of hiding the fact your arm works fine? >_>

Lulu, what were holding the belts in place and how did she jump in that dress? Let alone walk?

X-2, didn't like anyone's outfit but Paine's tbh. Only one practically and decently dressed

Vaan, FAKE ABS R FAKE

Ashe, if she had something better than that shorter-than-a-miniskirt-should-be skirt, I may have liked her more

Fran, while it befits an archer to have free movement, we don't need THAT much skin on show

Larsa, you're a guy, LOOK LIKE ONE

Character designs I did like:

Yang, He looked PERFECT for the Monk class, and in DS he was lovable xD

Rydia, looked amazing in her adult sprite, absolutely gorgeous

Rubicante, just breathed epic, much better looking than the other 3 fiends

Terra, both normal and esper form were hawt

Strago, considering the graphics back then they did a good job on the face of his sprite

Barret, his outfit suited so well, and the sailor suit made me giggle xD

Seifer, loved his jacket and shirt, not to mention the hair and the awesome hyperion ;D

Edea, FANTASTIC job done on her dress and headgear <3

Irvine, dunno why but I love his cowboy look. Goes well with cutscenes like in D District Prison

Beatrix, Loved her outfit SO much, really suited a holy knight <3

Seymour, weird stomach aside his design wasn't too bad, especially since he's a hybrid

Balthier, epic outfit is epic

Gabranth, next to Zargabaath he has the best judge armour set, and he's pretty handsome himself

Penelo, too cute imo xD

And that'll do me for now :gasp:

Gestahl, what are you? A poodle? I dunno whether to get out my sword or a dog biscuit...

Rofl. I always saw him as a rabbit myself.

Anyway I don't think there are many character designs I really despised really.

I guess there is Genesis and how he is essentially created to be the singer Gackt.

Vaan. All they needed to make it worse was a set of erect nipples to be honest. And his abs... Yeah. :ness:

Not many others annoyed me... I guess I could add Penelo. I liked Penelo and the appearance of her face etc, but her costume was really dull to me. It was like a jogging tracksuit. If she had a better costume it would have been a lot better.

Oh.... And Larsa. I immediately thought she was a girl... Until it was revealed (almost a plot twist for me) that she was a boy.

Not many others had things that annoyed me, and I have played most FF's. I tend to just accept the designs and appreciate what the designers were going for. Recently though I've found that harder to do. Perhaps I'm just becoming a miserable git.
