Cecil. Love him, hate him?

I think Cecil is a quite good character. I prefer using him as the Paladin as I like fast and aerial atacks.

Also, Dark Knight Cecil was poorly adapted to Dissidia. I mean, the mask is so diferent of what it was supposed to be in the original game (I think it was an eagle or sort of. in dissidia is like a demon)

a very common misconception. Dark knight is the one that has the fastest attacks, paladin just moves around faster and does more(?) damage in ex mode

@Ultros: yet another common misconception, cloud is not simple at all, he actually takes alot of strategy to use. Anyone that plays straightforward with cloud simply will not go far

and this game is anything but balanced. There are matchups that clearly are one sided no matter how you look at them, and cecil undeniably has many of these matchups

*coughSephirothcough*
That's the main one. Ultimecia's bad, too.

Still, it could be worse. If Cecil had some of Shantotto's matchups, he'd probably be unplayable.

When it comes to Cecil I find an overhead approach more deadly (when I have time i'll vid an example) with his chase links and close range speed I find him very effective against slow characters like Cloud and Bartz (EX build just adds more power)

I will agree on his HP game, Dark Flame, Paladin Force and chase HP attack are the only HP attacks I bother with. But i'm more aerial based

cloud has very predictable attacks that are easy to see coming but have very high return for connecting properly, his pressure game is very slow and predicable as well so a defensive play style suits him very well and its hard for him to come out of that shell without exposing alot of openings his ablilty to play creatively is a tad hindered by this but not even close to enough for him to be pitted in an imbalanced match due to creative use of summons/ability/accessory/gear sets, creative use of terrain to your advantage. and thats why we have different sets to switch up between games so we can adjust accordingly.

and if your about to say that using arcade mode charaters for (lol) balancing gameplay... it does not...(unless both players select the same charater) removing the creative aspects and banning ex cancelling in tournaments only further imbalances play by homoganizing it down to fewer and fewer aspects of combat improving predictablity and limiting the elements of suprize and chaos. i think it is through limitation to achive balance to be the greatest common misconceptions of all... it only exposes limitations and dissolves creative play.

sorry for bad grammer... hope the nazi's dont get me...

Most people on Ad hoc party tend to play by 6999 rules, so obviously eliminating gameplay factors doesn't 'dissolve creative play' as much as you think it does. In fact, out of all the play styles, I wouldn't be surprised if 6999 was the most popular. At least, for now. It's been shown that playing with no limitations on equipment and accessories has the potential to lead to stupid OHKO builds and turtling to wait for Iai strike to kick in. And I don't know about you, but I think that 'dissolves creative play' more than anything else. Unless you get two people who agree not to use a retarded build, the matches are just going to be stupid. With 6999 rules you have the assurance of a fair fight. And unless your name is Gabranth, there's nothing to complain about. Hell, even most Gabranths don't complain.

With equipment, you have to spend a lot of time countering your opponent's build. And while this is nice, and adds another factor to the gameplay, it becomes less and less a contest of skill, and more and more about general knowledge (X counters Y, etc etc.) And there is always the possibility of your opponent filling up their slots with incenses and resins, which flings your creative play right out the window.

At the same time, some people like that for some reason. So I won't say that one is superior to the other. But I will say that if you think limiting gameplay elements makes the game more stupid, I would have to argue that. After all, infinites are in the game. And not like in MvC2 where the infinites take a modicum of skill either. It's very easy to pull off an infinite on someone, conceivably leading directly into an HP link or combo. There you've won the game with no skill whatsoever. But they're in the game, so are you saying we shouldn't ban them in tournaments (Even though, through all the tournaments, it is pretty much the only thing that everyone can agree on banning?)

1) try blocking double cut on reaction

2) his pressure game is not very slow and if he has a fire or two out, itll increase its effectiveness easily

3) If the cloud player actually knows what hes doing, he can be as aggressive as he wants and still have no openings, in fact, cloud is even more effective when played aggressively.

4) The acc/summon/equip set does not make the character

5) Are you basing this off of vs computer experience?

Guys, let's try and keep the thread on topic please. This thread is about whether or not you like Cecil as a character in Dissidia. Any further off-topic posts will be deleted. Thanks.

Cecil as a character in general is pretty awsome, gotta love the noble types. I dont care for his playstyle at all, and so far he may be somewhat low tier.

Cecil might have some difficulty, but I'm getting more used to him as I go along.
I do tend to do better once I break out his Paladin form, though.
By the way, how many times has everyone here heard "TO THE SKY! RAGING BLADE!!" or whatever he says there so many times it will never leave your head? XD

I don't like Cecil ordinarily, because having to attack to change classes can really mess you up. You're going to get attacked while you're flailing about to get a class change, let's face it. The only thing he has going for him are the Brave Attacks that instantly switch over to HP attacks.

On the other hand, in EX Mode, Split Soul is absolutely amazing. The transformation is almost as evident as Gabranth's. Whereas before he was slow & awkward, now he can switch classes & unload a wide array of attacks. Personally, I've found this to beat even Squall at draining Brave.

Cecil is not one of my favorite characters. I have him at around level 30 something. Needless to say, I have mixed feelings about him.
